I've used foam earplugs a lot for sleeping with my snoring hubbie and for ear protection at rehearsals, concerts, or movies. They're quite comfie once you get the hang of squooshing the air out of them first, like you do! Thanks for all the resources--going try some new types!

My father and uncle worked in a very noisy environment without any kind of hearing protection. Now they suffer from the consequences.

I use ZenPlugs moulded earplugs because they're comfortable and don't get dirty or fall apart like other earplugs.

I mainly use earplugs in hotels. I've tried all kinds and the foam ones I took home from a Virgin flight are by far the best (but I'm afraid I don't know who makes them - should really ask Virgin). I have a white noise app on my phone that helps me get to sleep too.

I have never used earplugs because I avoid going to noisy places and the area where I reside seems pretty quiet when I go to sleep. But it's good to know much about it. who knows I might need it one of these days.

We are very fortunate to live in a quiet area but I can imagine earplugs like these would be a great help to the very light sleeper or someone who lives in a noisier area! Blessed by a passing Squid Angel :-)

I have small ears also and the foam ones work best for me. I wear them to drag races!

I have used the foam type and they seem to work pretty good.

Great advice you got here! Just wondered though, have you tried using the ER20's to sleep in. I wear them for clubbing and I think they are great. Saying that, I wouldn't sleep in them because the filter sticks out of the ear canal and would interrupt sleeping - unless you sleep face down or face up.

The best bet for earplugs for sleeping would be foam earplugs or custom made ones. I know some people find that foam earplugs can give sore ears, in which case they may consider customs even though they are more expensive.

If you are interested in finding out the pros and cons of foam vs reusables vs customs, I've written an article which you'll find here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Earplugs-what-types-are-there. Or visit my lens here: http://www.squidoo.com/why-wear-earplugs

i have foam earplugs but they hurt my ears, maybe they are not working properly as they stick out any pictures or instructions for proper use, also which earplugs are recommended for sleep for people with smaller ear canals who want comfort and noise reduction

    thanks

Regretfully, I'll have to recommend some of these to my DH. I had no idea there were so many different types.

I use soft foam NRR 32 earplugs. It's super for sleeping through perturbing traffic.

I now use Hearos Xtreme Protection Series earplugs. They are rated NRR 33, and I've found them in fact to be more effective than any others I've used, and at the same time pretty comfortable.

I could have used this advice months ago. I finally moved, because I was suffering from sleep deprivation.
