Or Is Earth the Movie Just A Chance for Disney to Be Seen Being Green For Publicity Purposes?

Releasing Earth the movie on Earth Day is very exciting but can Disney's Earth and the new DisneyNature division really help save the environment or is it just a pretty film without any environmental impact designed to get consumers to open their wallets? Or perhaps, with actions like the planting of trees for this movie, Disney is responding to popular opinion about companies that care for the environment rather than acting because they care. Or maybe they are genuinely concerned. Does it matter what their motives are if they are doing good deeds?

"With half a million new trees committed so far, Disneynature's first film is already making an impact on the world-and 'EARTH' hasn't even opened yet." -- Mark Zoradi, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group.

Disney's Tree Planting Commitment

Disney's goal is to plant trees in spots that have been identified by conservationists as critical. The trees that Disney is planting as a result of tickets sold for Earth during the opening week are being planted in Brazil's Atlantic Forest -- one of the most endangered rain forests. (Only 7 percent of it remains.)

"...This isn't An Inconvenient Truth. It's not The Eleventh Hour. It's not trying to preach to people. There's a lot of bad news about the environment out there. But if you had all the money in the world and ten lifetimes you wouldn't see ten percent of what we can show you in this movie. It's all there, it's still there, it needs preserving. And we just want people to come out uplifted, really."

-- Alastair Fothergill

Disney Should Do What Disney Does Best!

"Climate Change or man-made global warming is a very hotly contested issue...it would be absolutely disgusting if Disney promoted the political and environmentalist ideaology of man-made climate change on our children. That's called indoctrination, not education. Real education would be showing the real science, on both sides, and frankly a Disney feature should not be bringing such a politicized issue into theatres anyhow. Leave the propaganda to Al Gore and Greenpeace please, and let Disney do what it does best."

"Save the planet; save ourselves!"

"It's funny, people come out saying there's a conservation message but it's so subtle and light that it just naturally emerges from the fact that when people see all the things they see in the movie, they realize that's still out there and what we need to preserve."

-- Mark Linfield

What About Human Predators? Global Warming? Garbage?

"It wasn't until I had watched the trailer several times that a thought occurred to me, what about human predators? What about global warming? What about the copious amounts of waste we dump into our oceans? Granted, I have not seen the movie and I do believe I'll go see it."

Beautiful lens... blessed. Environmentalism is a hot topic where I live... because so many local people lost their livelihoods when the sawmills were shut down after a lot of spotted owl lawsuits. For the most part we don't discuss it but the issue boils under the surface like lava in a volcano waiting to erupt.

Great page. I'll have to come back after I have seen the movie. This world is a beautiful place; full or wonderful animals and places which should make us all want to take better care of our planet -- whether or not you believe in global warming. Thanks for a great lens. 5 stars and a favorite and I'm still a huge FAN! Bear hugs, Frankster aka Bearmeister
