This sounds like a cool program! I used to teach Spanish and would make my students memorize songs as part of the curriculum. Very cool!

Ah ... I would love to truly learn Hungarian and I'd be listening to gypsy music and maybe GB too!

Oh you should learn Hungarian... keep in touch with your roots. And no, that's not a comment about your hair which I'm sure is 100% as nature created it! ;)

This is fascinating, I had no idea such a thing existed. Makes good sense, though. Earworms are infectious. Wouldn't work for the other language I'm fluent in, but not many systems help you learn Sign Language apart from actually being there. Books on ASL are almost impossible...

Have you tried, and do you have an opinion (pos or neg) about the Rosetta Stone program?
  • WordCustard Apr 4, 2010 @ 9:48 am | delete
I haven't tried Rosetta Stone, but I do highly recommend Pimsleur for anyone who wants to take their language learning further. I also think the Michel Thomas CDs are an effective way to learn for those frustrated with more traditional language learning courses. (Of course, none of these will help with ASL...) Thanks for your comment, Blue Sphinx.

This is a great addition to my current lessons, I have the Berlitz method German and French lessons and can't wait to try Earworms! ;-)

Wonderful, I hope you enjoy Earworms as much as I have! Thanks for taking the time to comment, GingerAlly.

Fascinating. Learning languages always seemed so hard to me, but this earworms way makes it look much easier. I like the way each word/phrase is repeated several times until it becomes familiar and natural. I studied French in high school (a language was a required course), but all I can do is count to 10 in French :). Began to study Spanish in College and WOULD like to learn Spanish as there are so many Spanish-speaking people living in America now. I CAN read a bit of French and Spanish, but really cannot speak it. Funny to me to read prosperity66's comment and realize that - to her - English is a 'foreign' language! Non-English-speaking people do a much better job learning English than we do learning another language!
  • WordCustard Mar 29, 2010 @ 8:34 am | delete
Hello Wednesday_Elf, good to see you here. It's great if you get to use a language as you learn it, so Spanish sounds like the ideal choice for you. I think that is why 'foreign' languages seem more difficult for us anglophones... we don't have the necessity or the exposure to other languages, whereas in many countries English is everywhere, on TV, in the movies, and you learn from an early age. But it's never too late! :)

Excellent! I love languages and definitely enjoyed your page that walks us through learning a foreign language! I learned English by myself when I was a child as our second language here is Dutch and understanding the Beatles wasn't possible unless I knew English, lol.

Later on, in my adult years, I took English classed at Berlitz and have to say that they provide the best language lessons ever. If they acquired Earworms it's definitely because it's a wonderful languager learner! So, this page is certainly speaking about something of a high quality and makes me want to give it a try -- I'd like to learn German and Russian ;)

    Blessed by a SquidAngel.

Thanks so much for you comments, I think everyone should have a chance to enjoy speaking more than one language if they would like to. So, though I don't often recommend a product, this was one I couldn't keep all to myself!

So, if you learn German and Russian, that will be how many languages? 5? 6? You are a true polyglot! :)

Great lens. The earworm sounds like a really good idea and seems well priced too. Had fun with your quizzes. Got 6 out of 8 on the first and 9 out 10 on the second. Much better than I expected. 5*****

Thanks so much for stopping by here, and congratulations on the quizzes! That's an impressive score you got for both of them. :)
