Learning Guitar, What A Great Way To Pass The Time Of Day!

When you decide to learn the guitar you may feel like you have a mountain to climb. Where do you start? Like everything you should start at the very beginning. Before you buy a book, a guide or a guitar training video you should try and borrow a guitar off someone if you can. You might not like it. You might not be into it after your finger tips start to hurt. It might not be your bag this guitar playing malarky....Who we trying to kid, of course it is!

Learning to play will be one of the most rewarding experiences you could ask for. If not just so you can impress your pals. But im not going to lie to you, it isn't easy and it takes a LOT of practice to get good.

Your Guitar Equipment

First things first. You need a guitar and possibly an amp. I say possibly because you may opt for an acoustic guitar. In my opinion the beginner should opt for an electric guitar. They are far more forgiving than an acoustic guitar and you can play using headphones and practice into the wee hours of the night without disturbing your neighbors, parents, flat mates etc etc.

A very basic setup will be simply a guitar and an amplifier. Which brand? Well you can't really go wrong with a Fender Stratocaster guitar and a Fender Frontman amp.

Obviously you don't have to go for this combo but in my opinion this combination of fender amp and guitar will give you one of the best sounds you can get for the money.

Learn the Guitar chords

Guitar Chord Chart

So everything is set up and ready to go. Grab your plectrum and get ready to strum!

The corner stone of guitar playing are the chords. Chords make up 90% of the guitar sounds that you hear in any tune and it should be your mission to learn the basic chords inside out. C is the easiest chord to learn, so start there, to play the C chord:

Index finger just behind the first fret on the second string (B).
Middle finger, just behind the 2nd fret on the forth string (D).
Ring finger behind the third fret on the 5th string (A).
The first and third string are played open, whereas the 6th string is not played at all.

Try to play the chords above and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

I have quite literally started to learn the guitar. My sister picked up a cheap one from a second hand shop and gave it to me. I have been learning chords using youtbue, and now my 6 year old daughter is really interested. Thank you for the links and inspiration.
