Introduction to EA Skate

The EA Skate franchise is an incredible series of games focusing on the action sport: skateboarding. For the past decade Tony Hawk's Activision series has ruled the skateboarding (and even more extreme sport) video gaming category, but no longer. EA Skate is a game focused on providing the player an entertaining and interesting experience, with use of the unique control scheme focused on the controller sticks primarily to do tricks and maneuver. Even more exciting to those players longing for a more realistic virtual skateboarding experience, this game series has made a giant leap in the direction of realism without stepping into the negative qualities (which would ultimately cause boredom) of skateboarding in the real world, such as waxing curbs or walking for miles just to skate a set of stairs. Simply put, the EA Skate games are just awsome!

The "Flick-It" Control Scheme

an innovative creation of Skate

Electronic Arts really outdid themselves with the unique control scheme. No longer are gamers just randomly pressing buttons and seeing tricks appear on screen, now gamers can feel the tricks they are doing. Skate is more of a virtual "experience" than just a video game. Most games can not come close to accurately simulating a physical experience, but this one does in many ways. Sure, you are not stepping on a platform to perform tricks (except on Wii's Skate It), however the power of your thumbs has reached its maximum. If you pull back on the right trigger and push straight forward, your virtual skater will proceed to do an ollie. If you pull back on the right trigger and push off to the left or right slightly, your skater will do a kickflip or heelflip. A chart of trick fingerings is attached to this module, and it is very interesting to experience. I am not sure that a better system could be created without making giant advances in terms of controllers.

Buy EA Skate 1, 2, or 3!!!

As you should know, EA Skate has come out in three primary incarnations. I'd highly recommend these games, as I have played them all myself!

EA Skate and EA Skate 2 demos

FREE!

If you enter the Playstation 3 store or Xbox 360 store the original EA Skate demo can be found for a free download. This is best for those individuals not sure if they want to buy the game!

There is rumored news going around (that has even made it onto G4's television screen) that on January 8th, 2009 (or sooner) a Skate 2 demo will also be hitting the Playstation and Xbox stores for free!

Do you think that Skate 2 is going to be better than the original Skate?

For most games, usually the 1st one serves as a baseline......which is good......then, the 2nd installment should definitely be better....since they already know what to do to make it successfully.....any additions should make it even THAT much more appealling :)

cryptid predicts:

I am saying yes simply because of the new additions. Not much in terms of details has been released, however I expect EA to do a great job!
