What Are Easter Bells and What Can you Do with Them?
Easter bells origins and ideas to use them

In reality, Easter bells are very popular and cherished Christian symbols of Easter time and celebration in some European countries. Although relating to Christianity, Easter bells also provide our kids with eggs - bunnies don't lay eggs in my country.
The short story of Easter bells is that the bells of our churches leave our countries prior to Easter Sunday and fly to Rome in order to be blessed by the Pope. They then come back on Easter Sunday morning and spread eggs in our gardens on their way to our churches.
Legend? Hm... Not sure. As a matter of fact, between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, bells don't ring at all in our areas. Doesn't this prove the point?
What can you do with decorative Easter bells?
Outdoors: hang Easter bells on your porch or anywhere you wish. Inside the house, place them on your dining room cabinets or take several different Easter bells and use them as table centerpieces on Easter Sunday and watch them wow your guests at your Easter dinner!

Materials to Make Easter Bells out of Clay Pots
What you need to create religious Easter crafts at home

Because plant or clay pots make outstanding Easter bells, we're going to use them to make our Easter bell crafts. Before you start making Easter bells out of pots, make sure you have some on hand - if you have a garden, chances are that you already have a few pots left - otherwise, buy some clay pots from the local garden store. The pot size doesn't really matter but if you wish to hang your Easter bells on the porch, then use 5 or 6" diameter pots or smaller pots. Here are the other materials you'll need to make Easter bells at home:
- Pastel or brigthly colored acrylic paints
- Easter themed stickers
- Faux precious stones, crystals and other decorative items
- Big wooden beads (larger than the bottom hole of the pots)
- Large colored ribbons
- Decorative cord
- Glue
Instructions to Make Easter Bells out of Pots
Step-by-step tutorial to make your Christian craft project
- 1Easter bells are prettier when colored; therefore, you're going to paint the pots using bright and/or pastel colors. You can even paint the pots different colors, as you can see in the illustrations above.
- 2Once the paint has dried, turn the pots upside down and draw and/or stick Easter decorative items on your future Easter bells, such as rabbits, chicks, eggs, flowers, etc.
- 3Let the pots dry for a while and cut out a 2' (60 cm) cord out of the decorative cord roll
- 4Tie a knot on one end of the cord, pass a large wooden bead onto the cord and secure it with another knot. You should now have 1 knot, 1 bead, 1 knot. The knots must be bigger than the hole of the pot, so, I suggest using a large cord or make big knots.
- 5Measure 1" from the knot and tie a third knot (this will secure the cord into the pot). Now you have 1 knot, 1 bead, 1 knot, 1" cord, 1 knot.
- 6Then take the pot, turn it upside-down and pass the loose end of the cord through the pot hole.
- 7To hang the bell you're going to make a loop with the remaining cord - cut off part of it if you think it's too long - and make sure to secure the loop knot. Repeat the operation for as many Easter bells as you're creating.
- 8If you followed the instructions and if the knots are big enough, you should be able to lift the pot by its loop without problem.
- 9Put the finishing touches to your Easter bells with the addition of a big colored bow.
- 10Tip: Tie two Easter bells together using a longer cord that you pass through both pot holes. Start as explained above, once you secured the loop, pass the cord through the second pot hole, secure the cord with a big knot in the inside of the pot, then leave 1" cord as is, tie a second knot, add a large wooden bead and secure it with another knot. Cut off the cord.

Make Easter Bells out of Construction Paper
Paper Easter bells can make great ornaments!
If you don't have materials to create Easter bells out of plant or clay pots, you can make Easter bells out of construction paper. This Christian craft is quite easy to make. All you need is construction paper, colored markers or paintings, scissors and some creativeness.
Once you cut out the Easter bells out of construction paper sheets and decorated them, pin the bells on the walls. A lovely idea would be to create an Easter banner out of paper Easter bells. The idea would be to write one letter of Happy Easter on each paper bell and link the bells together with some cotton thread.
You can also use paper Easter bells as place names; create small paper bells, decorate them and write down the name of your Easter dinner or party guests on each one. Another idea is to use paper bells as Easter party or dinner invitation cards. You can even write the menu and activities of the day on big paper Easter bells and give one to each of your Easter Sunday guests.

What You Need to Make your Easter Bell Project
Make sure to have some of these materials on hand before starting your Easter crafts
When selecting materials to create Easter bells, make sure you choose small terracotta or clay pots so that the cord supports their weight once you hang them on the porch. Choose colored construction paper if you wish to create homemade Easter bell cutouts and banners. This will help you save time and provide you with a bunch of bells. Get basic brightly colored acrylic paints to make Easter bells at home, mix colors to get a larger array of gradient colors and use white to create pastel colors. Naturally, craft glue is one of the necessary materials you need to create Easter bells.
In order to have your Easter bells ring, you need to make use of large colored wooden beads. A great way to decorate homemade Easter bells is by using Easter stickers. All you'll have to do is stick some stickers on your painted terracotta pots and you're done. Another great way to decorate Easter bells is to use Easter themed crystal ornaments. You can't make Easter bells without putting the finishing touches with a large colored ribbon. If you don't have clay pots on hand or for whatever reason can't use those you have at home, get a homemade painted pot kit especially made for kids.
