Easter Egg Decorating Ideas For Kids

It Isn't Easter Without Some Colorful Easter Eggs

Kids have been decorating Easter Eggs for centuries. Seriously. And each year they get a little more colorful, a little more crafty and a little more fun.

These days you'll find kids decorating eggs with everything from Super Hero stickers to ribbons and bows to crayons and markers. You can pick up expensive kits at the craft shop or more affordable kits at the Big Box Store. You can even make your own decorations out of things you already have on hand.

But every Easter Egg, no matter how it's decorated, starts out the same way.

You have to color your Easter Eggs before you start decorating!

How To Color Easter Eggs

The Old-Fashioned Way

Back before all the cartoon characters and super heroes entered the picture there was only one way to color Easter Eggs. And believe it or not - it was FUN! If you're not really into all those stickers and messy containers and dyes, then this is the easy way to color eggs. And you probably already have everything you need right in your own kitchen cupboards.

What you'll need:
Hard-boiled eggs
Ordinary food coloring
Boiling water
Vinegar

Containers for the dye
Soup spoons

Directions:

Use one container or cup for each color you want to make.
In each cup place 1 teaspoon of vinegar and at least 20 drops of food coloring.
Add 1/2 cup of boiling water to each cup.

To dye your eggs simply place them in the cups or containers of dye and gently turn them with the spoon until they've reached the desired intensity. The longer you leave the eggs in the dye the darker the color.

Try dipping half the egg in one color and the other half in another color. You can also mix your food coloring to get even more colors.

Remove eggs from dye and place on a paper towel to dry.

Decorate with stickers or markers or whatever crafty ideas you can come up with!

Excellent! Maybe some religious symbols in sticker form would be a nice addition to this lens. Not only would it be fun, it would help in teaching the meaning of Easter. Great Job!

I have several blown out eggs ready to decorate with my grandkids and will boil some too. It's so fun to watch the white turn a beautiful pastel color.

We decorate eggs every Easter. It's so much fun! I'm going to be disappointed when my kids get old enough that they lose interest.

I really like this lens...brought back some good memories of when my kids were still little and we colored eggs every year, using the very recipe you have here. You can also use wax crayons to decorate the eggs, and then dye them, which of course, leaves the pattern you've made with the crayon. Thanks for sharing a fun lens. Blessed.
