Easter Hats & Easter Memories!
I remember the sights and smells of Easter from my childhood so vividly. I was probably a bit weird as a child (I grew up to be an unusual adult so it's a safe assumption!) as it wasn't the chocolate Easter bunnies that appealed to me the most. It was the sights and sweet smells of church on Easter Sunday. Most years, I got a new Easter outfit which was soft and pastel, a dramatic contrast to the Winter wool and boots I'd been wearing for months to protect me from the cold Winter climate. My Easter finery would include a new hat which was usually made of straw or at the very least, a lacy little number decorated with ribbons and flowers. The church was filled with flowers every year and as a kid, I had never seen so many flowers indoors. I remember the vivid pink of the tulips, the brilliant yellow of pots of daffodils, the tall, fragrant,sweet smelling, trumpet shaped Easter Lillies, all a wonderful contrast to the oak and stained glass of the old church. All the women wore pastel dresses and the men in suits had flowers in their lapels. It was a celebration for the senses!I love these hats as they evoke those memories with their straw and pastel finery! They carry me back to my childhood and as an adult, are a wonderful way to show off my style every Spring! How I would have cherished one of these hats as a child!
