Why I Crochet my Easter Ornaments, Decorations and More

And how I mix it with other pleasures in life

Free Easter Basket Crochet Pattern

Crocheting, needlework and reading are 3 things I've missed since becoming "hooked" on the computer more than the crochet hook. These are things I used to do with my hands and eyes that were replaced with tapping out letters and words on the keyboard. I still do a lot of that, as you can see, but needed to balance things out a bit better.

My solution was to combine pleasures. First, I put aside the computer in the evening when my husband gets home, he is only awake until around 10 pm, an early riser, and I am a night owl, so I like to spend the time that he is awake focusing on him, and I can't do that sincerely while working on the computer. Now during our time together, I sit and talk or watch television with him, and crochet at the same time. This is especially good for easier projects where you don't have to constantly be looking at the crochet pattern for the next step.

How does reading fit into the picture? I've missed reading and have found a way to mix both crocheting and reading...I listen to audio books. When my husband goes to bed, if there isn't any pressing work to be done on the computer (I work from home), then I listen to my audio books while I crochet. So there are two ways to multi-task and give and receive pleasure at the same time.

Economical Yarn in Spring Easter Colors

A little better priced than what is suggested with pattern above

The free Easter basket crochet pattern above comes from a very reputable site that offers a good brand of yarn, but if you are a frugal penny pincher shopper like I am, you may be interested in yarns like the following which are much more economical. You can click through and search for more specific colors, or you can visit this link to yarn by the pound. The white color for the Easter bunny basket crochet pattern above isn't showing, so you would click through any link, and search "red heart white yarn".

Free Easter Bunny Door Knob Cover Crochet Pattern

So cute!

Easter Bunny Door Knob Cover - Easy Crochet

This is classified as a free "easy" crochet pattern. This Easter door knob cover fits over a standard door knob.

Since someone else has done all the work of putting this together, please visit her site by clicking on the picture of the crocheted Easter Bunny door knob cover, but I will tell you what you need:

* Small amount of 4-ply Worsted Weight (WW) Yarn in white and pink
* Crochet hook size G

Other materials to finish:

* Tapestry or yarn needle for sewing heel and weaving in ends
* 2 plastic googly eyes or eyelashes
* 1 Small pompom for nose
* Glue gun/glue

Gauge: 2 rnds = 1 1/2"

Click the picture for the complete free Easter crochet pattern.

Crochet Needles - Googly Eyes - G Hook - Hot Glue Gun - Pom-Pom Maker

Things used in the pattern above - buy quantity and save

I like to buy things in quantity to build my collection of supplies for future projects, especially helpful if you're a crochet beginner, or returning to the hobby after a long absence.

For example, rather than buying just one crochet hook, I bought a set that had the hook size I needed plus several other sizes for much less than if I'd paid for them individually. And since you have yarn, you might as well make your own pom-poms, but they can be found if you search.

Free Easter Carrot Candy Holder Crochet Pattern

Just big enough for a hand full of candy or stuff w/ fiber-fill as a decoration

Easter Carrot Free Crochet Pattern

A crafty crocheter may be able to adjust the size of this cute carrot, but if you do the pattern as it is, it can fit in a persons hand comfortably.

Here is what you'll need:

Size H crochet hook (which would be part of the set offered above)
Orange yarn
Green yarn

If you choose to stuff this as an ornamental decoration, you'll need fiber-fill.

Please click the image for the full pattern...you'll page down to find the pattern.

Crocheting (and Knitting) Yarn Tainer

I have to get one of these myself...love the idea!

This yarn tainer looks like a very handy thing to have. You put your ball or skein of yarn in the Yarn-Tainer and the end comes out through a hole in the top. It will keep the yarn running smoothly as you work...except for those occasional clumps that require a little more care. And it will keep the yarn clean - especially nice if working around pets or children, and for sitting on the floor on those days when you haven't had time to vacuum. Great for traveling as well. I must get one, and the price is good...there are other sizes available, click through and search "yarn tainer". (I originally searched "yarn trainer" and realized that is not what it is called.)

If you need a different size, just click through the link and search "yarn tainer". They are available in small, medium and large.

Free Colorful Crocheted Easter Egg Pattern

There are many ways these colorful eggs can be used to decorate!

Colorful Easter Egg Covers

I think I read in the instructions that the person who did these eggs colored the yarn before making them, but I may be mistaken. She has other pictures of the eggs in egg cartons, etc.

These decorative Easter Eggs are so cute! What fun it would be to decorate with these, or even to have enough to hide for Easter! Or you could add a string to the top and hang them from a tree...I may do that with my Norfolk Island Pine that I decorated for Christmas.

Here is what you'll need:

- F hook (Again, you can get this as part of the set shown and mentioned earlier on this page)
- Worsted Weight Yarn - your choice of colors...since not much is needed, this would be a great way to use up some yarn "scraps".
- Fiber Fill
- Stitch Marker

Free Crochet Easter Bunny Fridgie Magnet Pattern

Too cute!

Free Easter Bunny Fridgie Crochet Pattern

These are adorable! A little something you can make a supply of.

Slip one into an envelope with a card, hand to someone you care about to put a smile on their face, put one at each place setting as "favors" for your Easter guests to take home, or decorate your own refrigerator with them.

Here is what you'll need:

- Scrap yarn - only takes a few yards of 4 ply
- Size G hook (you should already have one from earlier project on this page)
- 1-10 mm wiggly eye (you should have extra of these, too, from a project above)
- 1 tiny black pompom for nose, and a bigger white one for the tail (again, you should have extra from earlier project, or the pom-pom maker)
- 1" pin or piece of magnet strip for the back

The Bunny is 2 1/2" tall to top of ear using 4 ply worsted weight yarn. 2" tall using sport weight yarn.

Easter in Our Home

On a personal note, in our home we celebrate fact that Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price for us on a cross then rose from the dead 3 days later. Easter Sunday commemorates that resurrection day, so we often call Easter "Resurrection Sunday".

We believe that He did this for us, to pay a price we could not pay, to make a way for us to come close to God, and appreciate it so much, that we celebrate!
