EASTER YARD DECORATIONS AND ORNAMENTS ~ DECORATING FOR SPRING

Ranked #5,869 in Pets & Animals, #146,635 overall

Decorating Your Yard

I love to decorate the yard for different occasions and Easter is no exception. I like wooden cut outs like the one in this picture. I have had this little rabbit and wagon set for many years.

My father-n-law gave me this set, but I have made some others for Christmas. They are not hard to make and even easier if you can get a friendly hand to help.

Handling a full sheet of plywood was my problem, but once I got the pieces cut out, they were very easy to manage.

Painting wooden cut outs is lots of fun. If you use a store bought pattern, it will have examples of what colors to use, or be creative as you like and substitute other colors.

The yellow flowers in the picture didn't happen to just be growing there. The were inexpensive silk flowers from the dollar store that I stuck in the ground. You see why. My pet deer Tinkerebell and the other deer around here make it impossible for me to keep flowers growing in the yard.

Countdown to Easter

Tinkerbell's Easter Greeting Card

She had just gotten past the reindeer pulling a sleigh full of presents, then along comes a rabbit pulling a wagon full of eggs. What's a deer to think?

Woodworking Patterns For Easter Yard Decorations

Using a pattern is the ideal way to get the right cuts when your making anything. The same is true for yard decorations. You can make your own though.

That was the case for some of the other wooden cut outs I have made. A Snow Man, basically 3 circles, was accomplished by laying down a garbage can lid for the bottom of the snowman and drawing around it. I can't remember what I found to use for the middle size circle, but I did use a pizza pan for the top circle. These all had to be overlapped just a little so that when the whole pattern came together, it was just one piece to cut around. Yes a pattern would have been nice, but the crafter in me said I could do it.

With that said, there are patterns you can buy.

Popular Brands Of Jig Saws

Of the wooden yard signs and decorations I have made, I used a Jig Saw. They are pretty easy to handle ( for a girl ha ha ha ).

You may enjoy working with a scroll saw also.

Paints For Wooden Yard Cut Outs

I suggest using out door house paint for your project.

If you planning to use several different colors and only need a small amount of each, just buy the little cans. Also check at the hardware or home improvement store for marked down paints. There is nothing wrong with them. Usually they are a result of someone ordering the wrong color then returning it to the store.

If possible apply a sealer coat over the finished project including the raw edges of the plywood. That will help to keep rain from seeping in to the wood. These wooden cut outs will last for years and years.

Wooden ornaments like this chicken in an egg are available on line.

This one is cut to 9" l x 4" w x 12.5" h and can be used inside or out.
