Easter 2012! Who doesn't just LOVE this holiday?
It thrills you with the promise of spring, crisp weather with a hint of the warmth summer will bring, daffodils and tulips doing their best to make their appearance, Easter Bonnets and the kids excitedly running about, searching for eggs during an Easter egg hunt.
Bring back any fun filled memories? Well it always does for me! Most families vary their Easter celebrations a bit but usually keep the
best parts like family brunches, beautifully decorated Easter baskets, chubby cheeked little ones in their Easter bonnets, and of course Easter egg hunts!
This page tells you about some of the things I absolutely love about Easter. You can also find out more fun facts, fresh ideas and Easter Recipes on my Easter 2012 blog.

Decorating Easter Egg
I always loved gathering the kids and their friends together to color Easter eggs; always messy but always worth the mess!First I'd have dozens of hard boiled eggs ready for everyone to add their colorful, creative touches to. Today, you can really let your creative side out, and the latest egg dying kits make it easy to shine!
Easter eggs today can be elegant and colorful with patterns or with dazzling splashes of color across them. Our kids also used to enjoy dressing the eggs up with hats, glued on shoes and add a bow tie sticker or other fun accessory!

Easter Egg Hunts
My favorite Easter activities include East egg hunts! I remember hunting for Easter eggs with my cousins in the backyard which seemed to go on for miles at the time. We all searched the yard, under chairs, in our backyard fort, in the tall grass with our parents helping the little ones look for their fair share. Amazon have a nice selection of plastic Easter eggs that are ideal for Easter Egg Hunts. One year my father actually rented a giant bunny suit and hopped up the back alley throwing plastic eggs full of candy over the fence as we looked on, astounded! That was one special Easter!
Today a lot of local Easter egg hunts are held the day before Easter for everyone to attend. These events are a lot of fun as well, usually held at local churches or parks. It's a great way to celebrate with the community.

Hide N Squeak EggsMy kids love this toy! The egg separates to reveal a second colored egg that squeaks when you push down on it. As your child's coordination improves, they can put the "tops" back on each egg making sure they fit together correctly - a bit like a Jigsaw Puzzle. At the bottom of each egg there is a protruding circle, star, etc. that matches with the bottom of the egg carton.
Sometimes simple toys such as this are really best. I am so happy with how it grows with her and all her friends that come over to play love this toy. You really can't beat this for entertainment value for the money! CLICK HERE for more Info
Easter Baskets
Another big part of why I have always loved Easter is putting together Easter baskets, loading them up with hollow chocolate bunnies, multicolored jelly beans, peeps and a fun assortment of Easter toys from tiny walking chicks to cheerful stuffed toys. And let's not forget choosing the perfect Easter basket and the shiny artificial grass that hides the candy surprises below.I love all the fun activities that come with the perfect Easter day which starts off with an Easter egg hunt, brunch, and church for many families. To the perfect way to get the entire family together for a day of musical chairs, playing croquette in the yard or planting some perky spring flowers if the weather permits.
If it was a rainy day, we always watched our favorite Easter movies, played board games or played with our new Easter toys like windup bunnies or chirping toy chicks. No matter what we did all day, it was always topped off with a delicious Easter dinner which usually included a honey glazed ham with all the fixings followed by my mother's yummy coconut cake, all served on Grandma's best dishes, highly polished sterling silver and embroidered linens.
Ultimately, family is the reason why I love Easter the most. Whether it's going to church to honor your beliefs, dying and decorating Easter eggs, filling the perfect Easter basket, digging into a marshmallow filled chocolate bunny, or the joys of the Easter egg hunt, the special memories you get to create with your family on Easter are what it's all about.
Happy Easter to You and Yours!
Make Your Easter Greener
Tips for an environmentally friendly Easter
- Choose Organic Eggs - One of the easiest ways for you to have a greener Easter is to choose organic eggs that come from humanely raised chickens. Not only are you supporting the great farms that produce these eggs, but you are also making sure that you are getting eggs that are much better for you and which didn't come from chickens that were pumped with antibiotics and hormones.
- Don't Use Plastic Grass - Rather than using plastic grass in your Easter egg basket, why not shred old paper or pages from old magazines instead? They will make very colorful and attractive material to stuff your baskets with. Just remember that you can also set them aside and use them again the next year.
- Re-Useable Baskets - Don't just use baskets that will only see one use for this year. Be sure to pick baskets or containers that can be reused next year or which your guests can take home and find other uses for. A cute little tote bag or a plastic bucket can be great alternatives. You can ask your guests if their kids can bring their own little pails.
- Eco Friendly Decorations - For any decorative containers you will be using for the party (think baskets for dining table centerpieces), make sure to look around your home instead for boxes and other items that you can re-purpose. This is certainly much more inexpensive and more eco-friendly than buying a bunch of different containers.
- Organic Trats - Think about the things that you will be giving away. Think about giving away organic treats instead, and consider making homemade goodies instead which you can wrap in cheesecloth, which will be better than individually wrapped items. Resist the urge to buy single-use plastic toys and get items that kids will be sure to use for a long time.
