Easton Stealth S19 Helmet Review
Ranked #7,914 in Sports & Recreation, #191,960 overall
When Safety Counts
What do ice, pucks and hockey sticks have in common? They are all harder than your skull. When playing around such objects, it is advisable to wrap said skull inside a helmet. Preferably one that not only offers high levels of protection, but is also lightweight and comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, it's been difficult to combine the mutually exclusive qualities of strength and comfort. Luckily for you Easton has managed to fuse the two together nicely in their new Stealth S19 Z-Shock Helmet. The Z-Shock can withstand an impact fifty-percent over its certification requirements and all this at around 325 grams, the average weight of a small cup of coffee.
As well as it feels, the Z-Shock brings even more to the table in terms of protection. When squeezed, it is eight times stiffer than its competitors, meaning that the Z-Shock offers impact and crush resistance that is off the charts. The EEP foam that makes up the inside of the shell is used in the automotive to make car bumpers. And since EEP is designed to return to its original shape after impact, the Z-Shock is not a single use helmet. It will continue to protect your brains after multiple hits. Both HECC and CSA certified, the Stealth S19 Z-Shock is also compatible with facial protection, sports tool-free removable earpieces and an adjustable fit strap.
The bottom line is, if you value your head and the contents inside then you could do far worse than jamming it inside Easton's Stealth S19 Z-Shock Helmet.
How is it constructed?
The S19 Z-Shock uses patented Zero Shock Technology, a revolutionary process which combines a one-piece EPP foam construction with a bonded polycarbonate shell. The "solid state" monocoque (one-piece) structure works in a similar way to plywood - as it is a laminate structure. This highly efficient laminate can be used to help set a new bar for impact absorption-to-stiffness ratio, low profile fit, and light weight in a hockey helmet
What is unique about the Z shock protection compared to traditional hockey helmets?
The S19 Z-Shock has both a monocoque or one-piece design, and a patented construction. The combination creates a helmet that is unique in character when squeezed - it is 8X stiffer than traditional helmets. This is extremely important in situations when a player's head is impacted against the boards, against another player, or when hitting the ice. The impact or crush resistance of this helmet is like nothing else ever seen in hockey helmet protection.
How protective is EPP foam? What does it do?
EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) foam is found in a number of protective products due to its ability to absorb and spread the force of an impact throughout the foam structure. EPP is widely used in automotive applications like bumpers, where high force, multiple impact material is essential. EPP is a resilient material that can also return to its previous state after an impact, meaning that it can withstand multiple impacts and keep protecting you. The S19 Z-Shock's "solid state" design has allowed Easton to maximize the amount of EPP foam by filling areas that might normally be void of protective foam in a "traditionally-constructed" helmet for weight or size adjustment reasons.

- This looks like a great helmet. While ultimate protection is very important, if it's comfortable, then people will wear it correctly which is also important.
