Air Freshener Aromatherapy Recipes

For general air freshening, in a spray bottle, combine four ounces of distilled water with one of the following blends:

  • 20 drops grapefruit essential oil, 15 drops geranium, and 10 drops pine
  • 20 drops lime essential oil, 20 drops lemon, and 10 drops juniper
Always shake well before use.

For an invigorating air freshener blend, combine 6 drops bergamot essential oil, 3 drops cedarwood essential oil, and 3 drops rosemary essential oil.

Note: You can use any non-irritating essential oil you like in either a spray or just use a diffuser to diffuse the essential oil into the room.

Easy Aromatherapy Recipes for Headaches

You can use the following aromatherapy recipes as a preventative measure and to help ease your pain. Add the essential oils to a 10-ml bottle and fill the bottle with vegetable oil.

Blend #1: Aromatherapy for headaches due to negative emotions

3 drops Roman chamomile
8 drops lavender

Massage your forehead, temples, neck, and shoulders.

Blend #2: Aromatherapy for headaches due to muscular tensions

4 drops lavender
5 drops peppermint

Massage your forehead, temples, neck, and shoulders.

Blend #3: Aromatherapy for headaches due to nervous tensions

3 drops Roman chamomile
3 drops neroli
5 drops marjoram

Massage your forehead, temples, and solar plexus gently. Breathe it in deeply and slowly. Pour 15 drops of this aromatic blend into the bathtub and soak for at least 15 minutes.

Easy Aromatherapy Recipes for Bath

The easiest way to make an aromatherapy bath is to add five to seven drops of your favorite essential oil to one ounce of carrier oil or milk. Add this blend to your running bath water and mix well before getting into the tub.

For an aromatherapy bubble bath, mix the following ingredients in a container and then pour under running water in your tub:

1 cup distilled water
1/4 cup unscented liquid castile soap
2-1/4 teaspoons liquid glycerin
3 - 6 drops essential oil of your choice.

Easy Aromatherapy Recipes for Women

PMS, Cramps, and More

To use aromatherapy for PMS, single essential oils that might be useful are clary sage, sage, anise, fennel, ylang ylang, neroli, and bergamot.

For a PMS massage, Aromatherapy for Dummies recommends

10 drops geranium oil
6 drops chamomile oil
3 drops clary sage oil
3 drops angelica oil
2 drops marjoram oil
2 ounces carrier oil

Blend the oils and use for either self-massage or massage from a friend or professional.

For a relaxing PMS relief bath, Pure Scents for Well Being recommends blending the following essential oils with one teaspoon of oil or milk and adding the blend to your bath:

5 drops bergamot
3 drops geranium
1 drop rose.

If PMS has you feeling depressed or apathetic, try this bath blend: 5 drops bergamot, 1 drop chamomile, 1 drop rose in one teaspoon oil or milk.

Menstrual Cramps

For menstrual cramps, try this muscle-relaxing aromatherapy massage oil:

12 drops lavender
8 drops ginger
4 drops marjoram
4 drops chamomile
1 ounce vegetable oil

Water Retention

Blend the essential oils with one teaspoon of carrier oil or milk and add the blend to your bath:

3 drops cypress
2 drops lemon
1 drop peppermint

Hot Flashes

Make the following blend and dab it on wrists, face, or neck when you feel a hot flash coming on:

10 drops lemon
5 drop peppermint
2 drops clary sage
1 ounce aloe vera gel.

Athlete's Foot

For a powder for athlete's foot, Aromatherapy for Dummies recommends placing 1/4 cup cornstarch in a plastic bag, and then adding

25 drops tea tree or eucalyptus essential oil
8 drops clove oil
8 drops peppermint oil

Close the bag and mix well with your fingers (through the outside of the bag). Apply as needed to your feet.

Arthritis and Joint Pain

The Essential Oils Desk Reference recommends the following blend for joint pain:

10 drops black pepper essential oil
2 drops rosemary
5 drops marjoram
5 drops lavender

Dilute the essential oils 50/50 with a carrier oil and rub into the joints.
