Cat Toilet Training

How much more fun would cat ownership be if you didn't have to deal with as Dave Barry once so eloquently described it "The Big Open Box of Poop and Wee-wee". To forever end your litterbox dependency you must be willing to delve into the world of cat toilet training. Generally it's a little bit of upfront work and effort with a long time payoff. You'll be patting yourself on the back once you've toilet trained your cat (and to flush after it has done its business) and you're no longer scooping constantly. Also no more worrying about throwing your back out as you lug around 40 pounds of kitty litter.

Have you tried to toilet train your cat?

While there are no guarantees that every cat can be toilet trained, have any of you out there been successful with cat toilet training?

Cat Toilet Training - Wait, I just want my cat to go in the litterbox first

While having your cat use a human toilet sounds like a great idea and would be a nice goal, what if your cat is not even using the litterbox properly? Kittens may have the occasional accident or there may have been an emergency situation where your cat just couldn't get to the litterbox in time. But what if your cat is purposely peeing on your clothing and furniture? Obviously your cat knows how to use a litterbox but for whatever reason they are choosing NOT to.

Unless there is a physical problem that is keeping your cat immobile or moving at a much slower pace than they used to, the issue is usually that your cat is trying to tell you something (and of course they could be letting you know about these physical issues that may not be obvious yet). Until you have learned to interpret and correctly translate each meow your cat utters, they have to communicate in ways that get your attention - and peeing on your clothes and furniture is a sure fire way to make you pay attention.
