DOG WETTING 101

Training for both of you

1. New puppies need several bathroom visits a day. A good starting point for getting your pup into a regular potty schedule is as follows:

2 Months = every 2 hours
3 Months = every 4 hours
4 Months = every 5 hours
5 Months = every 6 hours
6 Months = every 7 hours
7 Months = every 8 hours

This may be a little difficult in the beginning but be patient it will get better as time
passes.

TO CHEW OR NOT TO CHEW...?

Puppies have to chew! Chewing helps them to develop the strong teeth they need as adult dogs, although this does not mean they need to chew everything you own. In order to help curb his little habit give your puppy some acceptable chewing alternatives. He may not take to them right away but be persistent, eventually you will find something that is soothing for him. Keeping household doors closed whenever it is possible will also help in keeping chewing incidents down.

Trying to get a good nights sleep with a howling puppy...can be done

3. Night time howling while in a crate, has to be one of the toughest challenges that a new puppy and owner will face. It is a time when everyone is tired and patience is wearing thin. Here are some "tricks" that have helped many dog owners over the years. When crating a puppy use a wire crate so that your puppy can see out, it is a little less scary, keep in mind that a puppy is just like a newborn. Whenever it is possible, keep the crate in your bedroom, at least in the beginning. Dogs are pack animals and they want to be with their people. If your puppy has a favorite toy it likes to chew on put it in the crate with him at night. It is important to make the crate a happy place for your puppy. An often overlooked technique is simply wearing your puppy out, a tired puppy is less likely to put up a fight when it comes to bedtime.
