Keyword Research
A Keyword is a word or phrase, which you type in a search engine, the most popular being Google to get results. There are two kinds of keywords.
1. Short-tail Keywords: Keywords no more than two actual words. Ex. Web design
2. Long-tail Keywords: Keywords with 3 or more actual words. Ex. Small business web design.
So where do I place these keywords?
Title Tag: The title tag is a great place to use your keyword phrases. The title tag consists of those words you see at the top of your browser window in the blue space, and it is what search engines grab for the title display in their search results; so obviously, it's an important part of your search engine optimization strategy..
Headline: Most people who read on the Web scan Web pages quickly. This is why headlines are so important - they give your reader a chance to get what they need fast with a minimum of fuss (again, back to that great user experience). Use your keyword phrase again in the headline.
Content: Now you need to write your keyword phrases into your site content. This is where it can get tricky, because it's easy to just stuff your keywords anywhere and everywhere on your site. One of the most important criteria of effective content writing is that the content should by relevant and informative to your site and to what the end user is searching for.
Your keywords should be relevant to your website.
For example if you have a website about Sunglasses you will not put keywords like "books, music. Jackets, perfume", but keywords like "designer sunglasses, ray ban, Oakley sunglasses"

Basic keyword research
If you want to score high on Google and get free traffic for your internet business you have to pick the right keywords. The right keywords are keywords that are popular, but have little competition. You will need a keyword tool to get keyword ideas. The most widely used is the Google Adwords Keyword Tool.Step-by-Step Keyword Research
1. You need a keyword suggestion tool. A perfect tool is Google Adwords Keyword Tool (To get the tool just type the name in Google and it should pop up on the first place. Click on it. It might prompt you to fill in a captcha field. Type in the captcha letters and continue to step two.
2. On the left side you will see a field where you can enter your keyword or phrase that you want suggestions for. Type in your keywords or phrases separated by ENTER and click the button below that box.
3. Click Search. You will see a list coming up with related keyword ideas. Now you know the search demand for the keyword. It will let you know the amount of monthly searches for each keyword.
4. When you find a keyword that you like. Open a new window, go to Google and type in the keyword like so "keyword here" and click Search.
5. When you get the result - just below the search field you will see something like this
About 28,500,000 results (0.12 seconds)
If the number is below 60 thousands, then this keyword is a good keyword to include in your page, because there are only 30-40-50 thousands competitors. The less that number is and the higher the search demand for that keyword the better results you will achieve. A high keyword search volume with fewer competitors is a good recipe for success.
