A SPACE WITH A PERSONALITY

A lot of people see home decorating as a serious challenge.

Maybe this is the feeling after the walls have been painted, the furniture put together and swags hung high, yet something is still missing!

Sad but true, the decors fail to tell a story about ourselves - who we are, what (and whom) we love, and where we have been. Oftentimes, we miss out on adding personal touches on our rooms as we try to make it look like the latest furnished model unit, and still leaving an ironic feeling of emptiness.
Our home décor varies. We have pictures, paintings, mirrors for the walls, sculptures, vases, pillows, plants and even rugs. There is no need to buy new stuff! Just make use of the existing ones, and start by organizing them.

When you are done grouping the same decors together, you can work on the room or the space's focal point or focal points. A focal point draws attention and interest and persuades a viewer to look further. You can create a focal point by highlighting a piece of furniture, an artwork or simply by adding an area rug to the floor. You can even paint a contrasting color in one of the four walls. Just do not forget to keep the balance!

Now, let's get down to the first four steps that will help you deliver your personal statement:

Grouping Things

The first step is to group decors by theme (figurines, plates), or by material (pewter or crystal or porcelain), or by color. When you unify decors with the same characteristic, the more they become noticeable and striking than when they are strewn across the room. Keep in mind that varying shapes are interesting, too!

Grouping Photos

Then group together a collection of 8-10 family photographs and much more. Have them enlarged and place them in frames of diverse sizes. You can be creative and install them on a wall or for an additional effect; you can reproduce the photos in black and white.

Plants

Let us now add some growing decor to give warmth to a room - plants! It is very ideal to have indoor plants in the room. Research says that plants attempt to improve your health by cleaning the air from toxins and reducing stress. Isn't this wonderful?

But if you do not have a green thumb, try to find high quality silk versions. Silk plants or artificial ones can last for a longer period of time and would need a little care and cleaning can be made by dusting it from time to time.

Mirrors

For the last step that we will talk about on this article is how a mirror can boost a space or room in two ways. Instead of hanging a picutre, try to use a framed mirror.

Two things that mirrors do:
First, they reflect what is in front of them and they intensify light.

Second, mirrors make a room look bigger.

Area Rugs

One of the things that make a country home cozy is by having rugs. Rugs adorn not only the floors but heighten the walls as well.

Do you know that area rugs when laid on the floor define a conversation area? Have a rug that is big enough for each piece of furniture that you put together. For example, the rug should be large enough for a 3-seater sofa, a love seat, a winged-chair, a coffee table and side tables when grouped together in the living room.

Playing it up with rugs is amusing! It gives any space an instant makeover for any occasion. You just have to remember that if you are inclined on the casual style, be observant when selecting oriental rugs. A simple design will work alright but an elaborate design of an oriental area rug may come too strong and dominate your room or space.

By literal definition, an oriental rug is a rug produced in the Orient. But in practice, these are hand-made rugs created by conventional methods in the very old weaving areas of Persia (Iran), Anatolia (Turkey), Afghanistan, China, India, Pakistan and some parts of North Africa.

Instead of hanging a mirror on the wall or a painting, why not try the rug? Rugs come in different colors, shapes, sizes and even patterns. You can use this rug as your focal point as well. A rug with a pattern and a color combination that is out of the ordinary is a good accent or a good focal point. For some, rugs that come from famous collections are hung on the wall rather than laid on the floor.

Baskets and Things

Let us say that you have baskets, armoires, and display shelves as a given. They will remain the same - basket, chair and shelf if you do not see them work as something else. Let's say you decorate them and put in a little personal touch.

Try placing the basket on the armoire and leave some atop of the shelves. Can you imagine how lovely this will turn out to be? And likewise, this creation will give us the impression of who you are and what you want to do or both!

A basket on the chair reminds me of a country house or a cottage home. And yes, this decoration will tell us that you love country setting and all this type of place gives you many good memories that you often want to be reminded of.
