Let's Start With a Little Inspiration!

There are so many great cupcake ideas here, you're sure to see something you'd like to try!

First Up is the Cake!

To save time, you can start with a box mix!

You can use popular flavors like chocolate and vanilla, or you can go the route of color coordination to celebrate Valentine's Day by choosing red velvet or strawberry. Try matching a chocolate cake with pink icing, or a pink strawberry cake with chocolate icing. You could pick the traditional red velvet matched with cream cheese icing, or try a delicate white cake with a deep red icing. And just because your icing is colored red or pink, you can still flavor it however you like; for example, try adding mint or almond extracts to store-bought vanilla icing for a real show stopper! Whatever you choose, have fun with it!

Don't Forget the Icing!

From-scratch icing is easy enough, but still takes time. Save yourself the time with one of these! Just mix in a little food coloring for some Valentin'es Day fun!

Icing Recipes

If you're looking for a quick solution, store bought icing is the fastest way to go, but home made icing is pretty easy if you have the time. Here are some great recipes to try!

Buttercream Icing
A classic recipe.
Chocolate Buttercream
A chocolatey variation of classic buttercream.
Cappuccino Icing
For coffee lovers.
Cream Cheese Icing
Works well with red velvet or chocolate cakes.
Peanut Butter Buttercream
Another flavorful variation on the classic buttercream.
Milk Chocolate Glaze
Different from traditional icing, this is more of a ganache.
White Chocolate Cream Cheese Icing
A combination of two great flavors. Works well with fruit-flavored cupcakes.
Orange Cream Cheese Icing
A unique but flavorful combination of flavors.
Raspberry Buttercream Icing
Naturally pink, a perfect choice for Valentine's Day!

Food Coloring

These will help you easily tint any icing!

Loading

If you're using store bought icing and you're coloring it, make sure you mix all the icing at once to get a uniform color. So, for example, if you're planning to use two or three tubs of icing, scoop all the icing into a single bowl before mixing in the color.

Valentine's Day Sprinkles

These sprinkles have a Valentine's theme and will instantly make your cupcakes festive!

More Sprinkles for Valentine's Day

These may not be Valentine's themed but they're still festive, and you can mix these sprinkles with heart-shaped ones to make an even more impressive cupcake!

Loading

Sprinkles are enough, especially when you're in a hurry, but the cupcake picks and toppers featured below help to make the little cakes extra festive! To try something different: after icing the cupcake, roll just the edges of the icing in sprinkles to create a nice border for a Valentine's topper!

Cupcake Picks

Add some elevation to the cupcakes with these Valentine's themed picks! You could add red picks to cupcakes with pink icing and pink picks to cupcakes with red icing, or put them both on cupcakes with white icing and sprinkles.

Nonedible Cupcake Toppers

Like the picks above, these cupcake toppers are completely adorable!

Loading

Edible Cupcake Toppers

A sprinkle of tiny hearts or a single, larger heart placed on top of the cupcake is a fun (and delicious) way to decorate for Valentine's Day!

Loading

Unique Cupcake Toppers

Topping your cupcake with a small cookie or molded chocolate will prove to be a big hit! These toppers take some extra time, but if you've got the time, they're worth the extra effort!

Cupcake Stands

These elegant and fun stands will make any cupcakes look fabulous! A fun setup for parties would be a standard cupcake stand displayed between two mini cupcake stands.

Loading

Cupcake stands are great for parties or large gatherings! A great display can be made by placing a stand for 23 standard size cupcakes in the center of a table, then placing 2 stands for mini cupcakes of either side. Then you can add extra treats (or more cupcakes) on plates in front of or on the sides of the stands.

Essential Baking Tools

You'll need these tools for easy baking and decorating!

Loading

One of my favorite "easy cupcakes" decorating tools is the Star Decorating Tip included in the Wilton Master Tip Set (above). If you ice the cupcakes with a star tip, they'll instantly look professional! It's a quick and easy technique, but it may use a little extra icing than spreading it on with a spatula if you want height to the icing, so make sure to have extra icing on hand!

Fun Heart-Shaped Bakeware

Perfect for Valentine's Day treats but also for birthdays, anniversaries and other holidays! Mini cakes can be decorated just like cupcakes!

Nonedible Decorations

Use tabletop decorations to enhance your cupcake display! Especially great for parties, but they also make a celebration for two extra special!
