Caramel, Dutch, Old-Fashioned...there are a zillion easy ways to make apple pie from scratch. With my easy to follow instructions, and video directions anyone can make an apple pie that will be the envy of the family.
There are also ideas for gadgets you might like to try that will make the apple pie process even simpler and quicker.

Maggie's Dutch Apple Pie Recipe
Dutch Apple Pie, also known as Apple Crumb Pie, is a delectable dessert comprised of tart apples in a sugary broth with a sweet crumb topping.
This on of my grandchildrens' favorite and is always requested, no, demanded, at any family gathering.
Dutch Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
1(6oz) Graham Cracker Pie Crust
1 egg white, beaten
5 1/2 cups sliced apples (I like Granny Smith or a combination of Cortland and McIntosh apples)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Topping:
3 tablespoons of flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup butter
Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees
Brush the bottom and sides of the pie crust with the egg white. Place the pie crust on a baking sheet and bake until light brown-approximately 5 minutes.
Peel, core and slice the apples.
Combine apples in a large bowl with the lemon juice, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Mix well.
Put apple mixture in pie crust.
Make topping:
In small bowl combine flour, sugar and brown sugar. Mix in 1/3 cup softened butter. Sprinkle topping evenly over the pie.
Bake 50 minutes.
Remove and let cook 10-20 minutes before serving.

This is a variation of the Dutch Apple Pie recipe. By adding melted caramels to the pie mixture and the topping you will have a completely different and very sweet tasting apple pie. It tastes great with French Vanilla ice cream.

1 1/2 tablespoons of milk
Topping:

1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup butter

Bake 50 minutes.
Remove and let cool about 5-10 minutes. Drizzle remaining caramel over topping. Serve with ice cream or whipped topping.
