A Cupcake Crash Course
The Cupcake that Could
Someone once said, "It's the little things that truly matter." In the case of the cupcake, you can't find a truer statement. The cupcake is a smaller version of the larger, more glamorous cakes. As its name implies, a cupcake is a cake that can be contained in a cup. Thus, it seems downright impossible to find a cupcake that has the intricate designs and multiple tiers that the more glamorous cakes have.
But its size is also one of the advantages of the cupcake. When ordering cakes for any occasion, you may feel pressured to finish the whole thing, or else let it go to waste. In the case of cupcakes, everyone can have a bite, everyone can feel satisfied, and since it is also easy to make, you can demonstrate your culinary prowess.

Cupcakes: A Brief History
In truth, it is actually misleading to think that the cupcake's name was taken from its size. The concept of making "mini-cakes" began in the 19th century. During that time, ingredients for cakes were measured by weighing. The (then) revolutionary concept of measuring ingredients using cups rather than pounds or grams gave birth to the cupcake. This was truly an innovation back in those days, since it gives people the opportunity to buy just enough for their needs. In addition, it also saved time and effort since the ovens back then took a long time to bake larger cakes.
The Cupcake Revolution
Nowadays, since cupcakes are becoming more and more commonplace, many people have devised a way to make cupcakes much easier to make. The most basic cupcakes require a few ingredients and a working oven. As the years passed, cupcakes changed as well - from simple, plain cupcakes with just a dash of frosting to elaborately designed cupcakes that would make you even hesitate to bite into it (and destroy its design).
While cupcakes can never hope to be as intricate as full-fledged cakes, their size works to the baker's advantage - it makes it easier and quicker to produce desserts that will surely satisfy their guests.

Here is a quick and easy recipe for cupcakes:
The Basic Cupcake
You only need 200 grams of confectioner's sugar, 200 grams of self-raising flour, 200 grams of softened butter, 4 eggs, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and some milk if so desired. Combine the sugar, butter, and vanilla in a big bowl and beat until creamy. Add the eggs slowly while stirring continuously. When it is completely smooth in texture, you can now fold in the flour. Add milk for additional flavor.Line the muffin pan with paper cases and spoon the mixture into it. Make sure that you leave some space for it to rise so that it won't spill all over the muffin pan (and make cleaning a whole lot less enjoyable experience for you). Put it in the oven that is preheated to 350 degrees and wait for it to rise and have a firm texture.
Take it out of the oven and let cool before decorating it with frosting or jam.
