Slow Cooked Pulled Pork for your next BBQ

- Prep Time: 5-10 minutes
- Total Time: 6-8 hours
Old fashioned, great tasting!
This is pulled pork with that slow cooked great taste!
Ingredients
- 1/2 to 1 jar - McCormic Pork Rub (spice aisle)
- 1 Bottle Sweet Baby Rays BBQ (Hickory)
- 1 Can Guiness Beer (I prefer the tall black can)
- 1 Pork Butt (aprox 8 lbs)
Instructions
1. Rub Meat with Pork Rub generously (you may like to do this the night before if you think of it - it makes it only better the longer it is on there- and refrigerate over night with Rub on meat)
2. Place meat in pan (I suggest using a disposable pan- with cookie sheet under during the cooking for stability in taking out of oven and moving etc. - makes for easy cleanup - I use a turkey roasting pan)
3. Pour Can of Beer Over Meat (You could use any beer you have, but I prefer the dark Guinness that comes in tall black can. If you have choice of regular or light, choose the regular for best taste in the end. The alcohol will burn off, so no worries for kids eating this - they will love it too!)
4. Cook at 550 degrees for half hour (this gives it a nice outer edge)
5. Drop to 250 and slow cook for 6-8+ hours
6. Remove from oven and Add BBQ, and return to oven for the last 30 minutes of cook time
7. Place meat on serving tray (or simply serve in the disposable Turkey Pan if taking to a huge picnic)
8. Pull with forks to separate meat , do not cut with knife
Serve and enjoy !
(You can also put in 2 pork butts for a big crowd - and not really change up the recipe - it would work fine just as it is above. I usually make 2 pork butts.)
You can get almost all of it in one shot from Amazon
(darn they don't sell Beer!)
BBQ Pulled Pork - Crock Pot Style

- Serves: a crowd !
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Total Time: 8 hours or so
Sometimes it is just not possible to cook your meat for 8 hours. You can adapt this recipe as below. I have done it and it is similar. Nice to have it done when you get home from work !
Ingredients
- 1/2 -1 jar - McCormick Pork Rub (spice aisle)
- 1 Bottle "Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ (Hickory)
- 1/2 Can Guiness Beer
- 1 Pork Butt (aprox 8 lbs)
Instructions
1. Rub meat with the rub
2. Place it in the crock pot
3. Pour on the Beer (do not add more than half the can - the crock pot will use significantly less that the oven. )- 1/3-1/2 can only
4. 1 Pork Butt (cannot do 2 in one pot - the large crock pots can handle one well though)
5. Run it all day (6-10 hours) while you are at work
6. Add the BBQ when you get home, and spread across the meat as much as you can. Leave it running while you set the table etc... aprox 15-30 minutes)
7. Remove Meat and put on platter - meat will be falling apart by itself, but if you need to, pull apart with 2 forks - Do not cut.
8. Serve and Enjoy !
Crock Pots and Slow Cookers
A full time working Mom's Secret!
This pulled pork is just one recipe that works great in the slow cooker, but you can really find a ton of recipes that work great.
Here are a few good Crock Pots / Slow Cookers. I also included a couple links to the liners that make for easy cleanup and a thermal carrier for those potlucks!
What is the best cut of Pork for a BBQ?
What cut of Pork do I want to use for pulled pork?
It is known by several names - Shoulder Butt, Boston Butt, Shoulder Roast, Boston Roast and even Boston Shoulder Butt etc...
Basically if it says "Shoulder" or "Boston" or possibly just "Pork" - along with "Butt" or "Roast" - it is what you are looking for.
And if your wondering... Is it really the pig's BUTT? No - it is the pig's shoulder. (it is an old English term for shoulder). And if your saying, "Then what is the pig's butt called?" -That is the ham!
Is thus Pork butt expensive? - No! You can likely make a large roast for pulled pork for about $10.00-$15.00 including all ingredients.

Were you thinking of using a Grill or a Smoker to make your Pulled Pork?
I will, though, supply you with these 2 great links that go into good detail on how to use a Grill or Smoker to make a Great Pulled Pork.
These are not my recipes, and take a bit more work than mine - but they do look good :O)
