Crock Pots and Slow Cookers

A full time working Mom's Secret!

If you work full time - you need a Crock Pot or Slow Cooker.

This pulled pork is just one recipe that works great in the slow cooker, but you can really find a ton of recipes that work great.

Here are a few good Crock Pots / Slow Cookers. I also included a couple links to the liners that make for easy cleanup and a thermal carrier for those potlucks!

What is the best cut of Pork for a BBQ?

What cut of Pork do I want to use for pulled pork?

The "Pork Butt" is often said to be the best for BBQ pulled pork.

It is known by several names - Shoulder Butt, Boston Butt, Shoulder Roast, Boston Roast and even Boston Shoulder Butt etc...
Basically if it says "Shoulder" or "Boston" or possibly just "Pork" - along with "Butt" or "Roast" - it is what you are looking for.

And if your wondering... Is it really the pig's BUTT? No - it is the pig's shoulder. (it is an old English term for shoulder). And if your saying, "Then what is the pig's butt called?" -That is the ham!

Is thus Pork butt expensive? - No! You can likely make a large roast for pulled pork for about $10.00-$15.00 including all ingredients.

What does a Pork Butt look like

When going to the store, it is nice to have a clue what you're looking for. If you go to a butcher you can just ask for or "Boston Butt" and get what your looking for, while looking smart. But if your in the meat aisle, it is there, and you don't want to look forever to find it. The link below has pictures of uncooked pork butt. I will get a pic soon, but didn't get a chance to take one yet.

Meat Thermometer

When cooking any meat, it is best to determine if it is done by internal temp. For my recipe, I recommend a long cooking time, and it will surely be done in that much time, but it is very important when cooking on the grill to be sure it is done. It is also better to be safe than sorry with any meat. Below are some great thermometers - The quick read ones are the best in my opinion. They don't take long and that gives you the best number before temp can change. But all in all, any thermometer is better than none - if you don't have one, you should - You should also not have to pay too much for a good one - Most good ones run $10-20 but often can find a great one on sale for as little as $5.00 or so.

Were you thinking of using a Grill or a Smoker to make your Pulled Pork?

Well I am sorry, but I will admit - I am not the expert in these areas, nor will I play one on TV.

I will, though, supply you with these 2 great links that go into good detail on how to use a Grill or Smoker to make a Great Pulled Pork.

These are not my recipes, and take a bit more work than mine - but they do look good :O)
