For years he was overweight and a fat kid. He has every fat kid joke ever told. When he was in college he decided that he was sick of being fat and started to lose weight. Over a year, dieting in a very healthy manner he lost 25 pounds. He did this by dieting and exercising. This was done gradually by eating more health food and continuing exercising.
The problem with binge eating came when the wanted to lose the other 25 pounds of weight he had left. Now originally, Andrew was 50 pounds overweight. The first 25 was lost in a year. To lose the second 25 he felt that he needed to lose it in a shorter time. To achieve this he started going on all sorts of unrealistic diets. These diets included eating very little foods and not eating any junk foods. He was not able to keep this going for more than one week.
After the week what would happen is that his craving for junk and comfort foods would get out of control. What happen next is that he would eat all the junk foods that he could get his hands on and the binge eating would start.
He became ashamed and guilty about his binge eating habits and kept it a secret. To satisfy his craving he would go to two or three fast food restaurant and eat a full meal from each of them. He would also get takeaway food, and once back home, run to his room so that no one would see him and in about five or ten minutes eat all the meals.
He would feel so stuffed and sick afterwards that he felt like throwing up. He did not vomit but his stomach was so full that it hurt. All he could do is to go lie down for a while.
With all the guilt he was feeling it took him two or three years of yo yo dieting and binge eating before he decided to get help. The help he got was from a therapist and support groups. One of the support groups were Overeeaters Anonymous and weight Watchers.
He also started to read all he could find on his problem with binge eating. He took the best pieces of advice from each of those sources and did what worked for him and ignored what did not. He developed a system that worked.
Andrew now has a pretty healthy relationship with food. If he wants to lose a few pounds he can do so in a pretty healthy manner. If he wants to eat some junk food he can so do. He eats whatever he wishes in moderation. He can stop eating whatever he does not want and not feel deprived in any way. His obsession thinking about food 24/7 has stopped.

* Eat more whole grains. They should constitute at least half of all the grains you eat.
* Switch to and increase your intake of fat-free or low-fat (1 percent) milk.
* Increase the amount and varieties of seafood you eat as a substitute for meat and poultry.
* Compare sodium in foods such as soup, bread and frozen meals; opt for those with lower numbers.
* Cut back on solid fats, using oils if possible.
* Drink water instead of sugary drinks.

To be successful, we need to change what we do daily.
Losing weight is easy they say. All we have to do is to watch what we eat and exercise more. We need to use more calories than we put in. All this is true, of course, but putting into practice what we know is not as easy as it sounds.To be successful, we need to change what we do daily.
