Eating to Lose Weight Introduction

I've never been an obese person, nor have I ever been really fat. However I did throughout my 20's & early 30's yo yo a bit with my weight & never really understood what I was doing wrong & why I could never even shift a few pounds & keep them off. I was eating relatively healthy, lots of fruit & vegies and spending a litle bit of time at the gym, however I felt like I was flying blind & didn't really have a plan that worked. Was just trying anything & sort of hoping for the best.

One of the most important things I learnt on my weight loss journey is that I need to EAT to lose weight. In fact nowdays I eat 6 times a day & I can control my weight pretty easily. Now I know that eating 6 times a day probably goes against everything you've ever heard before about weight loss and it is true that different things work for different people, but this goes for anyone. If your not eating regularly normal, delicious, tasty food...your not doing it right!

If you ask anyone that's successfully lost weight for the long term you'll soon discover that anyone that has lost weight & kept it off successfully has done so not by starving themselves or working out in the gym like a maniac. They're probably also not eating magic berries or living on supplements. Its simply not sustainable for the long term. The best thing you can do for yourself is to learn about food. Learn what to eat & when & why. You don't learn this stuff at school so if your a little overweight or a lot overweight, chances are your parents didn't have a clue either so how are you expected to know?

There's plenty of information on the internet so if you are looking to lose weight do your own research but do yourself a favour & learn about food. Learn about carbs & proteins, good fats v's bad fats & learn about how your body stores them & uses them for energy. There is no quick fix to long term weight loss, it is a lifestyle change so be prepared to make a few but sustainable changes.
