What's healthy? What's Not? And Why?

Our health greatly suffers, we age prematurely
and we have a tendency to overeat
because we feed on nutritionally inferior foods!

Question:
If we are what we eat,
are we denatured, devitalized, deficient
and potentially toxic?

Find YOUR answer here... and learn more about YOUR health choices...

Disease is never acquired; it's always created by the choices you make. It's a natural result obtained from an unnatural lifestyle. Think about it...

What happens when we eat...

Location: Control Center, The Brain

"Incoming!"

"Alert Digestion, we have activity in the mouth. Get the gastric juices flowing. It's time to go to work."

"Yes sir! Hydrochloric acid has been secreted. Digestive enzymes are active and on the front lines."

"Hold it! Contact Pancreas and Small Intestine, we don't have adequate digestive enzymes to assimilate the nutrients - we'll lose the battle!"

"Yellow alert! The rhythmical contractions of the stomach have slowed. Small Intestine is wounded - he's going down. The food mass is not being mixed with the digestive juices and enzymes."

"Where's Potassium? Potassium is always with Potatoes!"

"These are not real Potatoes, sir."

"Red Alert! Contractions are seriously slowing. Putrefactive bacteria is invading. Gas is forming. Duck and cover, this is going to hurt!"

"Get B vitamins from Liver, we need it here to help assimilate all this Sugar."

"What if Liver has none to spare, sir?"

"It's an order! Tell him! My Goodness! What is going on here? Give me a breakdown of all available Nutrient troops, stat!"

"Incoming trans fat bombs! No, no! Muck! We're wallowing in muck now, sir."

"Warn the Heart!"

"Blood cells are sticking together, sir. Blood oxygen has dropped by 20%. Casualties are being reported from every sector."

"Quick! send B vitamins up here to the brain, we're going under!"

"B vitamins were depleted metabolizing all this blood sugar, sir."

"Send Glutathione in, we've got free radicals all over the place in here. This is a lot of incoming, where is support - where's Nutrients? Report!"

"Nutrients are missing in action, sir. We're being hit with Pure Carbohydrates. Calories, sir."

"What? Are you serious? It can't be Natural. What's going on?"

"It's not Natural, sir. It's Refined. Processed Food. Our Arch Enemy."

"Foodless Food! Idiot! What are we, kamikaze now? It's Suicide!"

"Blood is seriously clumping now, sir."

"Shut off the supply to the small blood vessels."

"Sir, the troops are totally weak and exhausted. It looks like surrender is inevitable."

"We did the best we could. Give orders to hold out as long as possible- and send out a repeating signal for Nutrients - "

"Eat, eat, eat, eat - "

Healthy Tip

Parsley is the world's most popular herb. While parsley is most popular as a garnish, the delicious taste and wonderful healing properties should be highlighted.

Fresh parsley is a flavorful way to add significant amounts of trace elements such
as copper, magnesium, molybdenum and zinc to your soups, stews, sauces, vegetables and salads.

Dark leafy green vegetables are packed with nutrients. They contain large amounts of beta-carotene, folic acid, calcium and fiber.

"Yucky

Excuse me???"

YUCKY STUFF

What would you say if you found out that food manufacturers often use ground up red beetles for food coloring?

It's true! It's on the label as "carmine" and that's exactly what it is!

If you eat "red" colored yogurt, for example, look at the label and see if it contains carmine. Then, think twice before eating it!

According to U.S. FDA standards, 1 cup of orange juice is allowed to contain 10 fruit fly eggs, but only 2 maggots.

YUCK!

BEWARE THESE DANGERS TO YOUR HEALTH (AND LIFE)

Prescription Drugs are part of what makes health care the third leading cause of death in our country.
Go Ask Alice
From the collection of Gary Halbert Letters...
"I don't smoke. I don't drink alcoholic beverages. I don't use recreational drugs. This has been true for years. Many, many years. In spite of all that, I recently spent 10 days in the intense, detox unit of a local hospital. I "was detoxing from a prescription drug that should never have been prescribed for me at all. In fact, in my opinion, it should not be prescribed for anyone."

"Ever."

"This medication is described as a "low-level" anti-anxiety drug. It is hugely popular."

GETTING HEALTHY BY EATING WELL...

You might feel like you're in a dilemma about what to eat, what to serve your family, what's healthy, what's not-you might even think you know the answer but figure it's just too difficult (or expensive). However, you also know that you have to do something for the health of your family. Well, the time is now!

The key to changing your dietary habits is to begin with the basics. Start where you are today and take steps towards improving the food that you bring into your home. Don't get in a panic, don't worry about making drastic changes that you don't want to make, don't worry about every little thing you put in your mouth. If you do, you'll never begin the change!

Creating a healthy life is a process. Look at what you usually eat now, what foods you like that are healthier, and what changes in your diet you're willing to make today. I know most of us were raised on meat and potatoes - with gravy, of course - canned or frozen vegetables, biscuits perhaps, and dessert - cakes, pies and cookies. Well, don't blame your parents. The truth of the matter is that it was once considered a "healthy" diet. However, that was a long time ago, and for different health challenges than those we face today.

You need to take steps in the "Healthy Life" process to reach your goals. Get the blueprint right, learn what food means to your body and your health. Changing your ways to become healthier is a lot simpler than changing your ways to accommodate sickness and dis-ease.

Everyone's ready for health. No one is ready for dis-ease. You have to plan to get healthy and stay healthy - and you have to stick to your plan.

Recently the CDC conducted a survey of over 356,000 men and women to learn whether they were eating the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables, and getting enough exercise. Only 1 in 7 were actually doing that, 16.6% women, and 12.4% men. No wonder our health is suffering.

"SICKO"

A tribute to Michael Moore's documentary about our health care system

'What can I do?' - SiCKO

If you can't watch the documentary yet, at least watch the trailer! I know it might seem scary to put our health care system in the hands of our government, but it's even scarier to leave it in the hands of greedy corporate giants!

U.S. health care is rated 37th in the world... just above Slovenia!

In fact, Doctors Are The Third Leading Cause of Death in the US, Causing 225,000 Deaths Every Year.

* 12,000 -- unnecessary surgery
* 7,000 -- medication errors in hospitals
* 20,000 -- other errors in hospitals
* 80,000 -- infections in hospitals
* 106,000 -- non-error, negative effects of drugs

Prevention is key to a long, healthy, happy life! But beyond that, living a healthy lifestyle also can improve your current health situation. It's puzzling to me that a doctor will put a patient on some medication when counseling that same person on how to live a healthy lifestyle would do more than the the meds ever could!

Americans are now the least healthy people in the world among industrialized nations. We suffer from more cancer, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart disease, violent behavior and sheer madness than any population in the world.

Why Do Natural and Organic Foods Cost More?

I have one thing to say about that. Demand is not high enough. The fewer people that insist on natural and organic foods, the more it will cost. It's that simple. Supply and demand. The more of us that demand quality foods, the more the price will come down. So, if you can afford it... or even if you're willing to sacrifice somewhere else for it, do so. You're actually helping everyone else by buying natural and organic foods!

However, there's a very good reason to buy organic and if you're wondering what the difference is, check out this resource that explains that there is growing consensus in the scientific community that small doses of pesticides and other chemicals can adversely affect people, especially during vulnerable periods of fetal development and childhood when exposures can have long lasting effects. Because the toxic effects of pesticides are worrisome, not well understood, or in some cases completely unstudied, shoppers are wise to minimize exposure to pesticides whenever possible. Click here to see a list of 43 fruits and vegetables tested for chemicals and pesticides ranked in order of contamination.

NATURAL AND HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS

Start your morning with something healthy that contains hot red pepper, cayenne, or jalapenos.

Why? These hotties contain capsaicin, which curbs your appetite throughout the day. The capsaicin actually blocks the hunger message from getting to your brain and you eat less because you're not as hungry.

If you eat it first thing in the morning -- such as in an omelet -- you'll be less hungry all day -- naturally!

And... if you're wondering about the eggs that I mentioned above, did you know that they really aren't a high cholesterol culprit? In a recent 6-week study, where participants ate 2 eggs every day, there was absolutely no change in total cholesterol level. And eggs are quite nutritious.

------------------------

Participants in a recent study who added grapefruit to their daily diet lost about 3.5 pounds over the course of a 12-week period. More research is needed to confirm the connection, but scientists feel the effect may be due to the fruit's ability to lower insulin levels and thus help the body to process energy more efficiently.

--------------------

Eat a small handful of nuts 20 or so minutes before a meal to curb your appetite. Eating good fats such as in walnuts, almonds, and peanuts, stimulates your body's production of cholecystokinin (CCK), a hormone that tells your brain you've had enough to eat. It also keeps you feeling full by slowing the emptying of your stomach.

WIKIPEDIA LINKS

What is...

Nutrition
that examines the relationship between diet and health. Dietitians are health professionals who specialize in this area of study, and are trained to provide safe, evidence-based dietary advice and interventions.
Molecular biology
Molecular biology is the study of biology at a molecular level. The field overlaps with other areas of biology and chemistry, particularly genetics and biochemistry. Molecular biology chiefly concerns itself with understanding the interactions between the various systems of a cell, including the interrelationship of DNA, RNA and protein biosynthesis and learning how these interactions are regulated.
Diabetes
The World Health Organization recognizes three main forms of diabetes mellitus: type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes (occurring during pregnancy),[3] which have similar signs, symptoms, and consequences, but different causes and population distributions.

While, ultimately, all forms are due to the beta cells of the pancreas being unable to produce sufficient insulin to prevent hyperglycemia, the causes are different.[4] Type 1 diabetes is usually due to autoimmune destruction of the pancreatic beta cells. Type 2 diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance in target tissues, this causes a need for abnormally high amounts of insulin and diabetes develops when the beta cells cannot meet this demand. Gestational diabetes is similar to type 2 diabetes in that it involves insulin resistance; the hormones of pregnancy can cause insulin resistance in women genetically predisposed to developing this condition.
Healthy Diet
A healthy diet is one that helps maintain or improve health. It is important for the prevention of many chronic disease such as: obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

A healthy diet involves consuming appropriate amounts all of the food groups, including an adequate amount of water. Nutrients can be obtained from many different food, thus a healthy diet may vary widely.
Serving Size
The serving size of a food product is a confusing term, as it is found both on the Food Pyramid and on Nutrition Labels and has two related but differing meanings. The USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion sets the standards for these meanings in the United States.

HEALTHY OILS

Among the beneficial oils, olive and avocado oils are touted as two of the healthiest. Olive and avocado oil contain monounsaturated fat, which can lower total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in the blood by lowing acidity.

IS CHOLESTEROL NATURAL?

An excerpt from an interview with Fereydoon Batamanghelidj, M.D.

Dr. B: Cholesterol is one of the most essential elements in the survival of the human body. When the body begins to make more cholesterol, it has a reason. It is certainly not to block the arteries of the heart... and nowhere in the history of medicine is there recorded one single case of cholesterol ever having blocked the veins of the body.

It is not the stickiness of the cholesterol that is the problem, although the drug industry is drumming that into the minds of people: "Cholesterol is sticky, reduce it otherwise you will have blockage of your arteries." Nonsense. Cholesterol is actually saving the lives of people, because it is a waterproof bandage that the body has designed. When the blood becomes concentrated and acidic, and is being rushed through constricted arteries or capillaries, in dehydration, then abrasions and tears are produced in the arterial system and in the capillaries of the heart first.

If cholesterol wasn't there to cover up the tears and abrasions, blood would get under the membrane and peel it off -- that person would be dead instantly. Cholesterol is actually an interim lifesaver, giving the body time to recover from its problems. We never understood this. We are knee-jerk doctors. We think that if something's up, bring it down, if something's down, bring it up. We don't ask the questions "why is it down" or "why is it up?"

Mike: And the pharmaceutical companies know that treating cholesterol is a huge industry...

Dr. B: It's a ten-billion dollar industry. There is a report that these statins (cholesterol-lowering drugs) produce side effects, even amnesia. The brain totally loses track of what it's doing. (Reported by a flight surgeon and a researcher at NASA. He knows what he's talking about and had the problem himself.)

Mike: ...A study just came out talking about how blueberries have phytonutrients that are shown to lower so-called fatty cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, more powerfully than statin drugs.

Dr. B: The body manufactures cholesterol as an emergency situation when it raises the level of its production. Its normal rate of production is to create membranes for the cells including brain cells and nerve insulation and, of course, the hormones of the body, and vitamin D for the body. These are the essential components that cholesterol makes in the body. We should never interfere with cholesterol without knowing why the body has starting raising its level.

Note: I hate cholesterol drugs!

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF WATER

Fereydoon Batamanghelidj, M.D.

Hydration of your body is of the highest importance. Nothing other than water hydrates your body sufficiently. If you're experiencing pain, odds are that part of your body is suffering from dehydration. Pain actually signals dehydration. Where dehydration settles in your body, you will experience pain.

Pain medications, antidepressants and other prescriptives, are all antihistamines. Histamine is a neurotransmitter that regulates water in your body.

With dehydration, plum-like cells become prune-like. Plum-like cells are healthy, youthful cells. You can imagine what prune-like cells are. Hydrating sufficiently will decrease pain. However, a "water cure" isn't a money maker where prescription medications definitely are!

Dr. Batamanghelidj believes that dehydration is the background of the health problems in society. He has written books about the benefits of water on the body, mind and spirit. He is the one who is interviewed in the excerpt above about cholesterol and says that water can eliminate the problem of high cholesterol by treating the cause instead of the symptom. THE MANY HEALTH BENEFITS OF POMEGRANATES

Pomegranates are nearly round, 2-1/2 to 5 in. wide fruit crowned at the base by the prominent calyx.

One pomegranate delivers 40% of an adult's daily vitamin C requirement. It is also a rich source of folic acid and other antioxidants.

Recent research into the health benefits of Pomegranates has created unprecedented demand both in the United States and Europe.

Recent studies have been published showing positive relationships between pomegranate consumption and prostate cancer, carotid arteries and hypertension.

The pomegranate is quite rich in vitamins C, E, and B6, containing, as well, significant amounts of B1, B2, and niacin. The most abundant minerals are potassium for alkalizing, copper for purification,
and iron for building hemoglobin.

Among its non-nutritive components the following are worth noting:

Tannins, in small amounts. These are much more prevalent in the rind of the fruit or in the membrane that separate the seed sacs. These tannins have an astringent and anti-inflammatory effect on the mucosa of the digestive tract.

Anthocyanins are reddish or bluish vegetable pigments belonging to the flavonoid group act as antiseptics and anti-inflammatory substances in the digestive tract and as potent antioxidants within the body cells, halting the aging process and cancerous acidic degeneration.

Pelletierine is an alkaloid and is effective vermifuge (expulses intestinal parasites) that is found primarily in the bark of the roots of the tree. The rind and the membranes also contain this alkaloid, but not the seed sacs.

Together, thee components give the pomegranate the following properties: astringent, anti-inflammatory, vermifuge, remineralizer, alkalinizer, antioxidant, and depurant.

The pomegranate is suitable in cases of outfectious diarrhea caused by excess acidity leading to gastroenteritis or colitis because of its astringent and anti-inflammatory action on the digestive
tract. It is also beneficial in cases of flatulence or intestinal cramps.

Surprising results have been achieved in chronic cases such as ulcerative colitis or granulomatous colitis (Chrohn's dis-ease).

Intestinal parasites, tenia or tapeworm, in particular are eliminated by eating the inner walls of the pomegranate.

Because of its astringent action it reduces the production of hydrochloric acid and thus reduces inflammation in an irritated stomach.

The pomegranate contains a significant amount of copper at 70 ug/100g., a trace element that helps to purify the blood as well as helps in the absorption of iron in building red blood cells.

Because of its rich content of flavonoids and antioxidant, which halt the processes of arterial aging, the pomegranate seed oil is recommended in cases of reduced arterial blood flow. It is very beneficial in heart attack prevention and cardiac health in general.

Because pomegranates are rich in potassium, they are appropriate for those suffering from hypertension. They help avoid excessive numbers of both systolic and diastolic pressure.

Pomegranates are of value in cases of gout, excess uric acid, and acid causing obesity because of its alkalizing and depurant effect.

Pomegranates are loaded with Omega 5 CLA oils, which have been found to neutralize acids associated with arteriosclerosis, breast cancer, prostate cancer and especially obesity.

The Benefits of Vegetables

Raw vegetables in their natural state are invaluable
for their nutrition. Properly cooked over 90% of their nutrients can be preserved. It's important to avoid overcooking and excessive boiling. Keep vegetables covered while cooking. Leave them unpeeled and wash in cold water. Scrub root vegetables lightly because the vitamins are close to the skin.

Tomatoes are loaded with vitamin A and C, and lycopene, which is the substance that makes tomatoes red. Lycopene is being researched to lower lung cancer risks. Smokers and non-smokers both seem to respond beneficially.

Asparagus treats many types of kidney problems, helps to cleanse arteries of cholesterol and is useful in vascular problems such as hypertension and arteriosclerosis. However, too much asparagus may irritate your kidneys.

Sprouts are vegetables at the greatest point of vitality. During sprouting vitamins and enzyme content increases dramatically at the same time starch is converted into simple sugars, protein is turned into amino acids and peptones, and crude fat is broken down into free fatty acids.

Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and leafy greens such as spinach have been proven to benefit your brain, increase memory and fight the effects of aging. Researchers believe the nutrients lutein and folate are the reason.

THE TOP TEN VEGGIES...
Broccoli has the most phytonutrients, followed by spinach, yellow onions, red peppers, carrots, cabbage, potatoes, lettuce, celery, and cucumbers.

Red peppers have the highest levels of antioxidants, even more so than broccoli.

THE TOP TEN FRUITS:
Cranberries have the most phytochemicals and the antioxidants, followed by apples, red grapes, strawberries, peaches, lemons, pears, bananas, oranges, grapefruit, and pineapple.

FOR YOUR KIDS

A young person's body dissatisfaction is often blamed on superstars but it can start at home. Parents' attitudes about eating and body image and their child's attitudes about those issues often align. In a recent study it was found that one of the most significant contributors to a child's weight concerns was the father's dissatisfaction with his own body. You're the role models... don't put yourself down or enforce a rigid diet. Eating more fruits and vegetables and decreasing fats and sugars is healthier and more effective than whatever is the current fad for weight loss.

There are so many things in life we feel powerless to control, to change or even to affect. You can control, change and affect your health through your diet. You can improve the quality of your life and the length of it, as well.

A recent article from Reuters stated that '50% of bankruptcies are due to medical expenses' suggesting that neglecting your health costs dearly in more ways than one. These statistics provide us with yet another reason to eat healthy foods because prevention is better than a cure for your life and for your finances!

Eating whole foods delivers to your body a combination of balanced nutrients, many of which science hasn't even discovered yet! These nutrients were designed to nourish and protect your body in a way that refined foods and supplements can't. Energy systems, immune functions, healthy DNA and strong hearts all thrive on whole food nutrition.

Please note that I am not a professional nutritionist, dietician, or health professional. This lens and the sites recommended simply offer information that I have extensively researched, but must not be construed as professional advice. If you have a health problem please seek the help of a qualified physician or practitioner. Nutrition and your diet are complimentary to medicine and should not replace it.
Learn about holistic nutrition...
People adhere to an adequate diet in proportion to their understanding of what foods have to offer them. People who have ignored nutrition before will often develop nutritional habits with zeal after obtaining knowledge of the subject.

The foods you eat provide the raw materials for your body to produce thousands of chemical combinations necessary to regulate energy supplies, immune systems, moods, body repairs and countless other critical functions. Junk foods and refined foods short circuit your system, create masses of destructive free radicals and cause drastic shortages by wasting your nutrient supplies on damage control.
Fat is not "bad".
Fat is not "bad". We simply eat too much of it. Dietary fats are a concentrated source of food energy. They are also the source of linoleic acid, an essential nutrient, and the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. While we all need some dietary fat each day, a tablespoon is about it. Many refined foods are loaded with the worst dietary fats. Triglycerides are fats that contain saturated, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. Saturated fats are fatty acids that raise blood cholesterol levels. Margarine, butter, and fats in meat and dairy products are all especially high in saturated fats. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats do not raise blood cholesterol levels.
Margarine versus Butter
Today I would like to share with you a motto that I believe in and
will help you to make healthier food choices...

The closer a food item is to its natural state, the better it would be
for you. Case in point today is, butter is better for you than
margarine.

Let's look at the reasons why:

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it
killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the
research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to
figure out what to do with this product. It was a white substance
with no food appeal - so they added the yellow coloring and sold
it to us to use in place of butter.

Hmm... Doesn't sound right, does it?

DO YOU KNOW the difference between margarine and butter? Go Here
Whole Food Healing
Exactly how minerals should be balanced internally is a biochemical puzzle to scientists and their theories change year to year. All the minerals in your body are in a delicate, dynamic balance. If a deficiency in, say, calcium exists, other minerals will be out of balance, too. In fact without adequate magnesium, phosphorous and vitamins A, C and D, it appears that calcium cannot be absorbed at all!

A favorable mix of all known nutrients is found in a balanced whole food diet.

Studies also show that long-term supplementation with isolated vitamins (A, C, E, etc.) neither cure nor prevent serious diseases.

Clearly the safest, most effective route is to avoid nutritional extremes, and to eat the highest quality foods available, which are unprocessed, unsprayed, organically grown food. These are much superior in nutrition, taste and energy.
Diets around the world
Different cultures have preferences for different foods and eating habits. We can learn a lot from this. Let's take a look at some of these differences and their effects on health.

The Mediterranean, Japanese and Asian diets are largely plant based. They include a lot of fish in their diet and not a lot of fat. These are dietary patterns that are conducive for living longer and healthier.

However, the Japanese with their excessive salt intake are prone to calcium depletion, which damages the heart, arteries, nerves, bones, kidneys, and muscles. They also have the highest incidence in the world of stomach ulcers and cancers.

The French don't have high rates of heart disease even though they are well known for their rich, tasty foods, smoking, drinking and lack of exercise. However, they do seem to believe in moderation. They eat small meals and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Find out more about the different diets of the world and how they effect health...
3,000 Food Additives!
Over and above the chemical fertilizers and pesticides, there are over 3,000 chemical food additives in use today.

The average American consumes a full pound of them per year! Monosodium glutamate, sugar substitutes, dyes, preservatives, nitrites, emulsifiers, fillers, waxes, sprayed on vitamins made from coal tars, tenderizers, texturizers, antifreezes, hormones and antibiotics are just a few we consume in processed foods.

Find out what kind of food additives you are eating here...
Why Organic?
By choosing organic foods, you are choosing to bring more health into your life. Eating organic foods helps to build immunity, increase strength and promotes recovery from chronic conditions.

While organic food is mainstream now and can be found in nearly all grocery and health food stores, visiting Farmer's Markets is one of the best ways to find organic foods and support your local community and you'll get far fresher foods than those that have been shipped from all parts of the country.

Organically grown meats and poultries are also becoming more available.

Find out what the organic food difference is here.
The Remarkable Nut!
Nuts and seeds are fatty foods, which are typically the best sources of vitamin E, an immune enhancing antioxidant and nerve protector. They contain the largest quantity of fat of all unprocessed foods but much of it is in the form of essential fatty acids. Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, carbohydrates, and others are just a part of their remarkable properties. Looked at in total, nuts and seeds are the "spark of life, a living and perfect food". They are best consumed in small amounts. Most tonify the body and add weight and strength.

Here's the catch. Nuts and seeds lose their nutrients and become rancid once hulled or shelled. Deterioration begins immediately. Only buy them in their shells. They will last up to one year. Store hulled seeds in dark glass bottles in cold places since oil rich foods, such as seeds, combine with plastic to form plasticides.
Nutritional Truth vs Clever Mixtures of Misinformation!
The multi-billion dollar refined food industry has gained such power that it keeps people in ignorance about food quality and literally controls our health. Clever mixtures of truth, misinformation and propaganda are designed to prevent interest in whole food nutrition from interfering with enormous profits.

Unfortunately, the refined food industry also controls a vast amount of nutritional research, by giving untold millions. Much of this is valuable, but information that might harm sales goes unreported and problems where solutions could decrease profits remain uninvestigated.

Learn the nutritional truth here.
Hydrogenation... How bad is it?
What is hydrogenation?

Hydrogenation is an extremely harmful process that creates an immune damaging synthetic fat, a type of trans fatty acid that's been found to elevate blood cholesterol.

Stay away from "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated" products such as in oils, margarines, shortenings, etc.

Most refined oils are solvent extracted at high heat with harsh chemicals then bleached and chemically treated to obtain colorless, tasteless oil with a long shelf life. The taste of rancidity has been removed but the harmful effects remain!

How bad are hydrogenated fats?
Poor nutrition effects the brain...
The brain is where poor nutrition is first felt. For instance, if you are deficient in iron you will feel depressed and irritable long before you develop anemia. But, if we rely on supplements, we're missing out on trace minerals and phytochemicals available to us only in whole foods. Your system works when fed properly and malfunctions when not!

Disease prevention may be a low priority to many of you right now, if you're currently "feeling healthy". You might be thinking, "what's in it for me, right now!" Well, there's plenty in it for you right here, right now. Do you want to look better, feel better, perform better, think better?

Nutrition can dramatically improve your life.
Is Your Diet an Enemy to Your Health?
Early warning signs that your diet is an enemy to your health are:

* food allergies
* indigestion
* constipation
* hemorrhoids
* high blood pressure
* weight gain
* sinus infections
* colds and flu

Taking vitamins and mineral pills will not prevent these problems. Scientists cannot formulate into pills nutrients they haven't discovered. Learn more here: Holistic Nutrition
Method of Cooking is very important!
Of your influence on food the most important is choice. The next is how you cook it.

Heating helps break down food structure so nutrients are more available. In moderate cooking few nutrients are lost and those that remain are more easily assimilated.

Excessive heat damages nutrients in food. Vitamins are extremely sensitive to heat and minerals can be drawn out of food when cooked in water.
So, What Should I Eat?

Desserts: You don't have to say No!
Desserts featured all have wholesome ingredients - unrefined grains, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruit, quality sweeteners, etc. Because they have hearty ingredients with concentrated sweeteners and are well cooked, the healthy desserts here can be considered energizing and strengthening (in moderation).
Individual Paths: Food and Your Health
Changes involving what you eat take individual paths. The speed in which you look and feel better depends on your resolve and commitment, strengths and weaknesses, the difference between your previous choices of food and your new ones, and how fast or slow you implement your changes.

Think of food not in terms of dieting but in patterns of living. Think of the food you eat as a part of how you can take care of yourself.

Claims regarding specific nutrients will come and go and forever change but if you establish a healthy eating pattern of a variety of foods in moderation, the changes in information won't mean a thing. You'll be healthy and you'll stay healthy. Disregard fads and diets.
The Health Benefits of Salads...
Chlorophyll cleanses, heals, and builds the body cells. It banishes anemic conditions quickly, reduces blood pressure, and aids the heart. It frees clogged arteries, smoothes out arthritic conditions, and improves digestion. As a result of a diet rich in chlorophyll, health is improved and a happier mental outlook is experienced.

With that said, I highly recommend eating more salads! Not only with greens, though...
Diet Foods: Don't buy into the myth...
Enriched and fortified aren't the only buzzwords that don't live up to their claim either. "Light", "nonfat", "low fat" and "diet" are also misleading.

Don't believe what it says on the package. Don't buy into the myth. Basically, if the fat is missing, something has replaced it to make it taste "good". Usually it's sugar. That sugar helps perpetuate a chemical imbalance in our bodies, not to mention that it depletes nutrients stored there. This only makes us crave more.
Food Labels
Food labels on prepared and processed foods have been standardized however, what they say and what they actually mean can be different things.

This is the only tool available to help us understand what we are buying but, by no means, is it comprehensive.

Reducing the content of ingredients we are concerned about is one thing, telling us what else has been added to make up the difference in taste is another. Learn what some of the wording on food labels means here.

50/50 Risk: Heart Disease
We all run a 50/50 risk of encountering a consequence of coronary artery disease. Nine times out of ten, it's fatty plaque building up over time that narrows an artery. While there are a number of reasons for an artery to narrow the most likely is atherosclerosis.

Nearly half of coronary deaths are of those who had no previous symptoms. Undoubtedly, however, they had excessive blood fat and cholesterol of which they were probably unaware. Both of which are preventable through whole food nutrition. Learn more about heart disease here.
Cancer afflicts 25% of Americans - including children
Approximately one-third of cancer cases are attributed to smoking, one-third to poor diet and lack of exercise, and one-third to genetic or other factors. Scientific studies suggest it takes many factors to trigger cancer and we may be able to block the development by getting in the way of just one. "Don't dig your grave with a knife and fork" and don't smoke!

What Exactly are Carbohydrates?
Grains, starches, pasta, breads and fruits and vegetables.

We are obsessed today with "fat free" and so we believe carbohydrates will make us build muscles faster, aid recovery from cardiovascular disease, and help us lose weight. What an amazing food group! However, there is a catch.

We are designed to eat primarily fruits and vegetables. Grains as high-density carbohydrates such as cereals, breads, and pasta are a relatively new food, historically speaking. So, the superiority of carbohydrates in our diets is actually plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and grains in moderation. You'd have to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables to equal the carbohydrates found in the carbohydrate-dense grains, starches and pastas. You get fiber and far more nutrients from fruits and vegetables. Not that you should avoid grains, just eat them in moderation. A diet of variety is of utmost importance.
Signs of Vitamin or Mineral Deficiencies
Vitamins and minerals are needed only in small quantity but their role in health is great. Many health and nutrition authorities believe a balanced diet will provide all the vitamins and minerals needed without taking supplements. Exceptions may be pregnant women, persons with medical problems and senior citizens who do not absorb nutrients as well.

For instance: Loose teeth, bleeding gums, easy bruising is a sign of a deficiency in Vitamin C.

Stroke: The most Frightening of Diseases
Unlike Alzheimer's, where you would not recall any other way of being, if you suffer a stroke you would know the alteration in your brain and be aware of your diminished capabilities. You have a stroke and you either die or survive with a disability, perhaps lingering for years without being able to take care of yourself in the smallest way. It is the unpredictable outcome that is so frightening. Your risk? One in five.
Atherosclerosis: Diet-Based condition leading to heart attacks
Atherosclerosis is a related condition to Arteriosclerosis, diet-based, and believed to lead to over a million heart attacks each year as well as other problems. Caused by deposits of cholesterol and other fatty substances accumulating on the walls of your arteries, blockages are created. Platelets may begin to adhere to these substances, known as plaque, further hindering your blood flow. When plaque clogs the coronary arteries and the carotid artery (supplying blood to your brain) serious dangers result. It is possible for an artery to be 90% blocked prior to symptoms appearing.

With a diet based on whole grains and fruits and vegetables in conjunction with mild daily exercise, nearly everyone can expect significant vascular renewal within a few weeks. In fact, reports state that most by-pass operations would be unnecessary with as few as 30 days on a high-fiber, low-fat diet. Other research indicates 97% of those on high blood pressure medication would no longer need it after simple dietary changes like these. Learn more...
Hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, often develops for the same dietary extremes that cause diabetes but instead of a shortage of insulin, excess is produced. Hypoglycemia often precedes diabetes.

It is believed that at least half of the population of America has hypoglycemic symptoms. Learn more about hypoglycemia here.
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become so weak they can shatter, when the spine compresses and deforms your back, when walking, sitting, lying in bed and even breathing becomes difficult - this is osteoporosis at its worst.
Rheumatic and Arthritic conditions
Rheumatic and Arthritic conditions are suffered by twenty three million Americans. Rheumatism is characterized by pain in the bones, joints, muscles, tendons or nerves, mostly in the hands, feet and arms. It is described as an autoimmune disease in which one part of the body attacks another. This includes such disorders as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, bursitis, neuritis, and sciatica. Arthritis is an umbrella term that covers more than 100 joint disorders.

Calcium deficiency problems require a balance of all minerals. Dairy products are sometimes the cause of calcic disorders, and not the cure, due to their high fat content. Foods high in oxalic acid should also be avoided - rhubarb, cranberry, plum, chard, spinach. Nightshade family vegetables - tomato, eggplant, bell peppers, and potato - also often cause problems. To find out what aggravates the problem, eliminate all for six weeks and re-introduce them to your diet one at a time with a few days between each. If symptoms of pain or swelling increase, you know what to avoid. Otherwise, all other whole foods are generally beneficial.
Mind and Spirit :: Psychodietetics
Denatured, devitalized, deficient foods may very well create denatured, devitalized, deficient lives. Depression, isolation, insecurities, fears, intense anxiety. . . Life depleting food intake becomes brain chemistry influencing thinking and emotion. Foods can drive emotions and passionate desire, emotional heat, and even social disarray.

If the results of our choices in life are intolerable - disease, pain, and mental disparity - we need only make better choices!

As your health improves you'll have fewer feelings of hopelessness and separation and gain a greater sense of belonging and unity. Stress melts away and you'll feel light, clear, easy, and content.

What a doctor said about antacids...
A doctor, lecturing on nutrition, stated that hydrochloric acid of the stomach was so valuable that law should prohibit the sale of every antacid preparation. Too little impairs protein digestion, vitamin C absorption, allows B vitamins to be destroyed and prevents minerals from reaching the blood to the extent that anemia can develop and bones crumble.
Your Brain needs Nutrition
Your brain is a three pound control center of your mind and body requiring about 20% of the blood pumping out of your heart with each and every beat. For optimal and long-term power, your brain requires a continuous stream of nutrition and oxygen. Research on how the brain endures the damaging effects of everyday life shows that attention to nutrition can increase your chances against deterioration of your brain at any age.
No cellular difference between an adult and baby whale... why?
Age is not just a chronological measurement; it is the rate at which the primary internal guardians of health - your cardiovascular and immune systems - decline.

Did you know that there is no significant cellular difference between an adult and baby whale? The adult whale suffers no cellular degeneration as it ages. In fact, there is no good scientific explanation for aging in any creature, including human beings.

Overeating is thought to be the major cause of premature aging.

The USDA Food Guide? Hmmm...
In all actuality, the government's guide has almost nothing to do with sound nutritional advice and everything to do with appeasing influential food producers.

No one dies of old age anymore...
If we allow disease to be some vague thing that happens to "other people", we will never take it seriously nor do what we can to prevent them to the best of our ability.

Remember, 65% of all diseases are preventable through sound nutrition. Your diet, the foods you choose to eat are more than just a healthy choice. It may be your life.

According to the World Health Organization, no one dies from old age anymore. All deaths are attributed to disease. But, don't make the mistake of thinking disease is reserved for "old people". Disease has no prejudice.
Adding Herbs to Your Food is a Healthy Idea
Examples:

Common Sage

Sage's first and foremost talent is in the garden and culinary uses. Used in stuffing, it aids the stomach to digest the rich foods that it is often served with. Medicinally, the volatile oils have antiseptic, astringent and irritant properties. Useful for treating sore throats, mouth irritations, and cuts and bruises.

Standards to Good Health

It's important to learn about nutrition...

We produce more food than we need. To keep it from spoiling, it is highly processed and refined. In so doing, the thermolabile substances are destroyed. These foods contain calories but little, if any, nutrients.

Processed and refined foods will not allow for repair or growth of your body. In fact, refining foods removes so much nutrition that Federal Law requires that a few artificial vitamins and minerals be added back. These foods are labeled "enriched" or "fortified" and literally mean that the natural nutrients have been destroyed! And, facts show that over 60% of the typical diet today is refined foods and snacks. That's the problem.

Have you thought about what the basic attributes of health are? Take a look at the following list of healthy attributes and compare your health.

· Excellent bone structure
· Erect posture
· Naturally pink cheeks
· Flawless skin
· Sparkling eyes
· Luxuriant, glossy hair
· Rhythmical, graceful movements
· Buoyant energy
· Strong, white teeth

Eat Well to Be Well and you will also achieve freedom from 65% of all diseases!

Do You Eat Healthy?

A recent survey asked people if they felt they ate healthy foods. 70% responded believing their diets were basically healthy. When these same people were asked what they ate, researchers discovered their diets were anything but healthy.

It's not easy these days to have a healthy diet. Processed foods have become staples, most of which are empty calories loaded with fat and sugar. We've lost sight of what food really is and what it means to our health. Food is supposed to nourish our bodies and supply us with the nutrients to be catalysts for millions of miracles that take place in our bodies moment to moment.

You are not going to get those vital nutrients in processed foods. I know it, nutritionists and dieticians know it, the National Institute for Health knows it, the World Health Organization knows it, and the processed food industry knows it. Now you know it.

Without the nutrients your body needs - all of them - you can't prevent that 65% of diseases that will lead you down the scary path to your incapacitation or untimely death. You already have the basic requirements in your body for the invasion of disease. One or more of them are already checking you out. If they haven't moved in already!

While we're on the subject of Natural Health...

Eating a diet rich in whole foods will help you avoid up to 65% of all diseases. And while we're on the subject of natural healing and health, avoiding prescription medicine is also important to your overall health and well-being. Prescriptions, including taken as prescribed, mistakes, incorrectly written or faulty, is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. (250,000). Prescriptions taken as directed kill 106,000 and make 2 million people sicker than before each year.

And keep in mind that an "all natural" claim on a label, doesn't make it so. As we try to shop for healthier foods, we can be fooled by "all natural" claims, but the vast majority of food products with such claims are anything but natural.

Far too many "all natural" food companies use hidden forms of MSG in their foods. It's now called yeast extract, autolyzed or hydrolyzed proteins. Pay attention to vegetarian food products too, like "veggie burgers". Read the ingredients on everything you buy and you'll find that the largest "natural" food manufacturers still use hidden MSG.

Whole wheat berries can be milled and stripped of 98% of the nutrients, then bleached with chemicals, "enriched" with synthetic chemical vitamins, and still claim "all natural."

There's no official definition of "all natural" in the food industry.

To become a smart consumer read the ingredients labels. Analyze the ingredients and ignore the health claims on the front of the package. Health claims are meaningless.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate claims of "all natural." They might claim to, but in reality, they don't.

Further, try natural remedies, such as herbs, but be sure that you learn about them first, and check with your doctor about interactions with any other prescriptions that you take.
