What's That? A Translation of eBay Terminology

What are all those letters in the title of this item? What's NWT? NIB? Huh? Well, there are only so many letters eBay lets you use in the title of each listings, so things have been abbreviated to save room for more important search words. Whether you think this is good or bad, eBayers have become accustomed to doing this and sometimes it needs to be translated!

Why do sellers use abbreviations??

Sellers use abbreviations and acronyms because the title of their listing is limited to 55 characters (or letters) or less. To squish in as much as possible, acronyms are used by most sellers.

NWT- item is new with tags
HTF- item is hard to find
NIB- item is new in the box
BNWT- brand new with tags
NWOT- item is new without tags
AF- Abercrombie & Fitch
AMEX- American Express
AUTO - autographed
DUTCH - dutch auctions, more than one is available
EX- Excellent condition
EUC- Excellent Used Condition
FB - Feedback
FED-Ex- Federal Express Shipping Service
FS - Factory Sealed
FVF - Final Value Fee (the fee ebay sellers are charged when an item sells)
GD- Good Condition
MIB- mint in box
MIP- mint in package
MO- money order
MOP - mother of Pearl
YSL- Yves Saint Laurent
N/R - No Reserve
NIP- New in Package
ON- Old Navy
RET or RETRD- Retired
S/H or SH- Shipping and Handling
SIG- Signature
SO- Sold Out
TOS - Terms of Service
UPS- United Postal Service
USPS- United States Postal Service, also known as the Post Office
V/M/D- Visa, Mastercard, Discover
VGC-very good condition

A word of advice to ebay sellers!

Don't get too caught up in eBay abbreviations...this can harm your sales. Use as few as possible so every customer, new or experienced, will be able to tell what it is that you are selling. You could be alienating some potential buyers and lowering your sales by using too many abbreviations!
