Electric Bikes are getting better.

I own three electric bikes. A small wheel fold-up with a 24V 250 Watt motor. A  mountain bike with a 24V 250 Watt rear drum motor and my latest bike has a 1500 Watt 48V motor.

Electric Motorbike

My Latest eBike

My latest electric bike looks more like a 50cc petrol scooter. It has a 1500 Watt, 48 Volt electric motor fitted in the backwheel. It is capable of doing 35 mph and has a travel range of about 25 miles on a full charge. It looks good and handles really well due to its low centre of gravity. Its quiet, smooth to ride and has a twist'n go handlebar throttle. It has full suspension and can carry a passenger. The electric motor is over 250 Watt and its faster than the electric bike legal top speed of 15 mph, it also has no pedals, so in the UK registration, a crash helmet and insurance are required. The bike is tax exempt because it is electric. One day, I may get a Vectrix, but at present, they're way out of my price range at nearly £7000. If you would like to see a wide range of eBikes, electric bikes, electric motorcycles and scooters, have a scoot over to ebikeelectric site.

Accessories

The first accessory I bought and fitted to the bike was a top box. The underseat storage is large but not deep enough to hold a full face crash helmet. The top box I bought for it was on eBay and came with all the fittings. It was easy to fit and took less than 10 mins. It can hold a full face crash helmet and is handy for holding the shopping. I bought a strong tungsten steel 1.5M bike lock. The lock goes through the front wheel and right around the front fairing. It enables a full face helmet to be secured to the bike, if a top box hasn't been fitted. I've discovered that there is a limiting resistor in the speed controller. Its there, to reduce acceleration and top speed, some countries require it. I am going to fit a switch to override the resistor and see how much it will increase the top end speed and acceleration. I think the underseat storage is large enough to fit 4 x 12V 10ah lead acid batteries., These will enable me to have a reserve charge for longer journies. A wide range of parts and accessories can be found at ebikeelectric .
