Read Your E-books on Your Kindle

Update October 2011

Our grandchildren gave me a Kindle last Christmas and I have enjoyed every single minute of reading on my Kindle. I use it daily, in fact, several times a day! How exciting to be able to read my ebooks on my new Kindle! I continue to print out instruction pages and things I want to memorize. But reading ebooks on my Kindle allows me to read a huge volume of material in convenient minutes here and there. I now can study in my car waiting for the grandchildren to get out of school, or waiting for my husband in doctor's offices and other appointments. What a convenience.

And if you use your Kindle email, you can send your pdfs to Kindle and they will convert them for free and download to your Kindle for you. One word of warning -- do not say please. I know you want to be polite and we appreciate everything Kindle does for us - but I learned the hard way. If you put "please convert" in the subject line of your email, your ebook will download to your Kindle in pdf format -- and you cannot enlarge the font or read as easily. Just use one word "convert" in the subject line of your email request. Then your document will be in Kindle format and easy to manipulate on your Kindle!

Print Your E-book on 3-hole Punched Paper for Ease of Use

Print Your New Ebook

Of course, you can read an e-book right on your computer monitor, and that is really useful for short reports and scanning. But for me, when I download an ebook for study purposes, I print it. I use 3 hole punch paper, print the ebook and put it either in a 3-ring binder or a 3-prong folder.

I then settle down with markers, pens, paper clips and begin to study. I never hesitate to write on the pages, make notes to myself, reprint pages, or even remove pages and take to my computer desk for reference. I can easily return the pages to my notebook when that particular lesson is learned.

Note - it will save time if you add a shortcut to your ebook on your desktop. An ebook often contains links to other sites. When you are searching for one of those links, you can simply open your book, find the correct page and click on the link required.

A few years ago, a friend asked me to review his new ebook. I printed the ebook, popped it into a 3 ring binder and took it to the beach with me! I did not have computer access on that vacation, but I did enjoy reading and studying my friend's book. This instructional book was very inspirational and I was so happy to have a "hard" copy with me. I had the perfect opportunity to try the exercises suggested in the quiet of the morning vacation days.

Note: I rarely purchase e-books. If I do purchase one and it is really really great, I will advertise that book. However, I do promise you one thing -- if I buy a loser, I will never admit to it!

I honestly cannot imagine my internet career without all of this free and purchased information and training. Why not take advantage of any freebie from someone that you trust? There are many excellent ebooks available. A reputable expert's blog is a great place to find free e-books. Follow Potpiegirl for Squidoo and marketing information or Jeff Herring for article writing information or Pat OBryan when you are ready to write your own ebook
. Note: Pat has a great forum at Milagroworld and it is free to join right now. You will meet great folks there and receive reliable information. Pat always gathers the finest folks!

Download Ebooks and Mp3's

Mp3's are also fun to download and use and the internet is full of them! One of my favorite things is to download and burn a CD of important lessons I need to learn. I can then take the CD in my car and multitask - learning my lessons as I drive. For example, Jeff Herring often offers recordings of his teleseminars. You can learn so much about article marketing from Jeff.

I purchased Pat O'Bryan's clearing audio and often listen to that one in my car. Another favorite is a copy of a Z-point session with Laura Whitelaw of A Way to Bliss Now. Z-point is relaxing and yet perfectly safe for listening and driving.

Download Adobe Reader

Electronic books are books that you download to your computer. Usually these are in pdf format. To read pdf documents, you will need a reader like Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader is free for you to download and install. Simply follow the directions on the screen.

I love the fact that most documentation these days comes in pdf format. That means I don't have to worry about storing loads of out of date manuals any more, but I can print them if I need to. I love your idea of printing a book and putting in a binder for reading at the beach etc. That is really useful. Excellent ideas and information, blessed.

I've been toying for years with the idea of creating e-books with my creatives. I think you've just given me the little push I needed to put this on my list of new things to do in 2011. Thanks, Joan!

Call it lazy if you like (I prefer to call it multitasking LOL) but I actually have ebooks read themselves to me!

If they are in PDF format (the only kind of ebooks I bother with) there is a feature that will read the file to you, using the system voice. In my version of Acrobat the command is "Read Out Loud" under the View menu.

Some people can't stand these voices but I don't find them hard to get used to. You can get better voices from the Acapela Group (www.acapela-group.com). The only time I print out a PDF is if it is secured in such a way that voice reading is disabled.

But what about highlighting and making notes, you say? You can do both if you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat.

Oh no re crash! Good idea too to put them on a cd. That way you won't lose them if computer crashes, and since they are pdf's, you can get many e-books on one cd.

I've only purchased one e-book in the past 3 and half years. I lost it just a month or two after it's purchase when my hard drive crashed. Printing them is a good idea if you can do it.

Thank you, Kate. I featured 2 of Marci's Kindle books after your comment! I had heard you talk about "Happy for No Reason" and it sounds like a book we all need to read from time to time!

I must tell you about my neato kindle app for the iPhone and the first kindle book I purchased which I absolutely love is called: "Happy For No Reason." The author is: Marci Shimoff, one of the featured people on "The Secret".

I curl up in the dark and read this--I love not needing an additional light!

The kindle you can buy from Amazon looks abit bulky as compared to the sleek contours of the iPhone!!

    Love Love Love it!!
