Portability and storage - In the amount of space that a comparably sized traditional book takes up, a small eBook reading device can hold thousands of eBooks, depending on the memory capacity of the device. If space is limited, such as when traveling, an entire eBook collection can be brought along instead of just one or two printed books, and will also weigh far less.

Costs - While an eBook reading device costs more than a single printed book, the eBooks themselves usually cheaper than their printed counterparts. If desired, an eBook can also be printed for far less than the price of buying a new printed book using printing services.

Security - Many eBook distributors utizile digital rights management (DRM), making it possible to backup eBooks in order to recover them if lost or damaged, sometimes even without additional cost from the distributor.

Distribution - When compared to printed publishing, eBook publishing is much cheaper, therefore making it much easier for authors to self-publish their work in a digital format. Sometimes free eBooks will be distributed to promote the sale of the printed version of the book. Any eBook can be purchased and downloaded immediately, allowing the consumer instant access to the content, while with printed books, one has to physically go to a bookstore or wait for delivery.
