As someone who has spent the past year searching for a way to "make it" online, I have created this lens to highlight what I have found to be consistently useful resources. I'm still searching for the key, but these resources have definitley helped me focus my efforts. I hope some of them help you as well.

After a short time you'll discover your email box is overflowing with unread mail. At some point you've got to stop surfing for the next big secret, and focus on brainstorming ideas. Unsubscribe from all the people that are mainly trying to sell you product after product without offering much concrete information. I have listed 5 sites that provide good information below under "Online Resources For Money Making Ideas".
2. Visit the blog www.BobParsons.com. He created the biggest domain name registrar on the web, Go Daddy. Read through his archived posts; there are more marketing and business building "secrets" revealed there than in most of the information the so called online marketing gurus are trying to get you to pay for.
3. Once you've spent some time online, stop surfing and sift through all the information you've accumulated. Hopefully you've sparked some ideas for how you can start to make money online. Take action on what you've learned. The majority of people will not get beyond this point because of lack of ambition. But you're different, you want to be a part of the 1% of people online who are successful.
4. "Fail as fast as possible". That is a quote from Robert Middleton of Action Plan Marketing. (see link below for "Marketing Plan For Consultants...) What he means is, don't spend 6 months researching and building a website only to discover there is no market for your product or service. Get a website up as soon as possible and then work on the finer details of generating website traffic. You'll know much sooner if your idea has legs or if it's a dud.
5. "Sell what is already selling". A great quote from John Reese, the man who made a million dollars in one day with a product launch online. What he is saying is, don't try to reinvent the wheel. A proven product that has an established market is going to be a thousand times easier to generate income from, (possibly through an affiliate program), than hoping that you'll find a market for you're idea for the next big thing.

Well, take heart, you're not alone. Staring at your computer monitor and reading story after story about how some average joe stumbled onto the perfect formula for making money online is interesting, but it's part of being caught in the flat sea of information overload. You "think" your achieving something by "educating" yourself with idle surfing parading as "research."
So what to do? Firstly, go through the mass of unread emails from all of these newsletters you eagerly signed up for, mostly to get free ebooks that ultimately stopped short of giving any actionable info, but promised more for only $97. Unsubscrib from 90% of them and keep 10 that are providing valuable information. I have listed 5 examples below under Links Plexo.
The other nugget I realized is that this whole internet marketing phenomenon is a lot like the slot machines in casinos, you just keep plugging your coins, hoping to hit the jackpot. I now realize the best chance you have of hitting that jackpot, is by creating your own gold. Give other people a reason to pay YOU for the information, not the other way around. Taking control of your own actions, creating your own product, (like ebooks), that is the real secret to online success.

How do you know what keywords people are typing into search engines? You use keyword research sites like Wordtracker, Keyword Discovery, or my favorite, NicheBOT. You simply type in a word or phrase related to a subject you are interested in and the results will show you if other people are searching for those words as well. You'll find valuable data on how often the words are searched for, (is it a hot market?), and also how much competition is out there, (websites already selling in that market).

Want to get into online marketing? If you want to do it right%u2028(and make money at it), here are the steps I recommend.
1. Get a good web site and learn to update it yourself. You need to have the flexibility to make changes and add things on the fly. You need to be comfortable with the basic technical aspects of the web. And you need to have a site with good content. From there you can add pages for specific online products.
2. Build your email list. Perhaps nothing is more important than this one. You can't build a big, responsive list overnight, so might as well start now! You need to know about keywords, article placement, Google AdWords, and the best way to convert web visitors into subscribers.
3. Send out an eZine regularly. No, make that weekly. This isn't the only way to do it, but you will grow your list much faster if you send out your eZine more often. The best subscribers actually come via word-of-mouth. And the more it gets out there, the more it is passed along. EZines drive online sales. Period.
4. Develop an online product. I've had the most success with the Infoguru Marketing Manual (an e-book), and TeleClasses of all kinds. You need to have solid information that conveys real value. The manual is more than an e-book, as you know. Those who buy get a lot, and as a result, it's still selling well five years after launching. What will your online product be?
5. Write a good online sales letter. This is the big key to success. Most letters either don't tell enough or they go over the top. You have to powerfully communicate the value of your offering in no-nonsense, benefit-oriented copy. I recommend getting some help with this from an experienced direct mail copywriter. I had help from one of the best. It really paid off.
6. Commit to mastering the ideas and principles of online marketing. Read books, ebooks and attend seminars. The best Internet seminars are expensive but they are worth every dime. I've invested over $10K in Internet Seminars. This has been my best overall business investment in years.
