Father's Day
Father's Day is a celebration inaugurated in the early twentieth century to complement Mother's Day in celebrating fatherhood and male parenting, and to honor and commemorate fathers and forefathers.
Father's Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves gift-giving, and special dinners to fathers and family-oriented activities. In 2008, it was celebrated on June 15 in many countries. In 2009, it will be celebrated on June 21 in many countries.

Vatertag
Die Bedeutung des Vatertags und das genaue Datum sind im deutschsprachigen Raum regional verschieden.
Als offizieller Feiertag hat er seine Wurzeln in den USA. Dort wird der Vatertag als ein Ehrentag für Väter ähnlich wie der Muttertag gefeiert.
Zurückzuführen ist der Feiertag auf Louisa Dodd, deren Vater im Sezessionskrieg 1861-1865 gekämpft hatte. 1910 rief sie eine Bewegung zur Ehrung von Vätern ins Leben. Präsident Calvin Coolidge gab 1924 eine Empfehlung für die Einführung eines besonderen Feiertages an die Einzelstaaten der USA heraus. Präsident Richard Nixon erhob ihn 1974 in den Rang eines offiziellen Feiertages für den jeweils dritten Sonntag im Juni.
