River Rafting Trips in Idaho, Oregon and California

ECHO River Trips has been in business for over 35 years! It was started by Joe Daly and Dick Linford, two teachers who loved rafting and wanted bring friends along on trips. The mentality is still the same today: guides, managers, owners who love rafting and rivers and want to share their passion with other people.

The purpose of this lens is to put several different media in one place and make them more accessible: Youtube videos, flickr photos, our blog: ECHO - The Latest Word, and some extras that are just goofy and fun. Hope you enjoy!

River Links

There are several great sites about flows, regulations, history, lodging, etc. Here's a few of them:
National Park Service
The National Park Service Gives a brief overview of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.
Salmon-Challis National Forest Service
This site offers information about getting permits if you are interested in going on a private trip. It can also give you an idea of how tough it is to get a permit on the Middle Fork of the Salmon. There are only 2-4 private trip launches each day throughout the season which makes it pretty competitive to get a permit. Many people, even those who are boaters, would rather have other people do the hard work for them (gear, cooking, put-in, take-out, cleaning, setting up camp) and spend their week of vacation enjoying the canyon.
America Outdoors - Association of Outfitters and Guides
America Outdoors is an organization that many rafting outfitters, including ECHO belongs to.
Dreamflows - River Flows and Run Descriptions
Dreamflows is a great site with flows and information about various runs in the western US. You can follow the flows before you go on the river!
Kevsmom California Rafting Information
Kevsmom.com is a website that was started by a group of friends who are passionate about boating. It has now become an industry favorite for flows, run descriptions, and news.

Outdoor Gear Engine Blog
The Outdoor Gear Engine (http://www.outdoorgearengine.com) is a search engine to find the cheapest prices on outdoor gear. It's actually really handy tool that searches sites like Altrec.com and Backcountry.com for you. The blog has good articles about the best deals of the day.
Outdoor Industry Blogs
This squidoo lens is a great resource for other outdoor industry blogs. They are about everything from rafting, to skiing to great equipment deals. Enjoy!

Not Essential, But Fun to Have

What-to-bring lists always seem to be chock full of necessary items, but often leave out things that are extra and fun to have (in our case, fun to have on river trips).
  • Entertainment books: jokes, riddles, sudoku, campfire songs...you'll provide entertainment for hours (adults love this stuff too!)
  • Pocket Tool (Leathermans are great)- fun for whittling away at sticks or being the cool guy with the handy tool.
  • Mini guitar and songbook or other instruments.
  • Hammock for lounging around
