Begin Storing Food and Learn To Be Self-Sufficient!
After changing our habits and creating a healthier home in the first edition of Eco-Converts, I found myself not only enjoying it, but wanting to take it further.
Especially in light of the current economic situation, job cuts, soaring grocery prices (speculated to rise 60% over 7 yrs!), and the tax increases for bailing out rich bankers. It's time for a change.
Here's a thought.....
What would you do if the grocery store closed? If they can't get credit to buy food to put on shelves, there won't be food there, no matter how much money you have.
It's imperative to AT LEAST KNOW HOW TO FEED YOURSELF and teach our children how as well.
So Let's Go!
Start Growing Your Own Food!
Steep food price increases on way: Start Growing Your Own Food NOW!
Reuters recently reported that U.S. food prices will rise by at least 7 percent in 2009 ... consistently for the third year in a row. Read More At Reuters.comYou see the numbers on the news, dependence on the government is rising with unemployment, welfare and other assistance programs that are having their budgets cut nearly as fast. Why would anyone want to rely on a system like this? I wouldn't! That's why it's vital to life to remain independent!
To do that, more and more people are learning to plant their own food and when it's harvest time, store food in cans and jars for the pantry. It's not like going back in time to Little House on the Prairie, but it's back to basics for the 21st century.
I grew up with a Mother and a Grandmother from the Industrial Era of invention. The motto in our household was "Leave it to the experts. If it's in a jar, box or can, it's made by experts!" So, I never learned how to cook, bake, garden or sew from my elders. I regret I never learned these things but I cannot blame them, I must learn it for myself.
So here I go!

Self Sufficient Lifestyle Suggestions
ToolBox For The Self Sufficient Kitchen
Grizzly H7775 Cast Iron Corn / Grain Mill
Flour doesn't keep long so it's best to buy whole grains and mill or grind your own as you use it. I grind mine into a large covered container about once a month.
Sassafras Rectangular Superstone Baking Stone with Rack and Cutter
A preheated baking stone adds a crunchy bottom crust to your artisan breads and pizza crusts.
The Apple Machine- Peeler, Corer and Slicer with 2 Bases
Since apples are cheapest to buy in bulk (they also harvest all at once) it's best to speed up the process of peeling and coring for freezing or canning.
Granite Ware 21-1/2-Quart Covered Preserving Canner with Rack
Nice and big for canning jars and the rack is easier than the clamps. Makes a great dutch oven too.
Lodge Logic 3-Quart Pre-Seasoned Chicken Fryer
This cast iron fryer is the perfect size for frying or making corn bread. Easily goes from stove top to oven or open fire pit.

- Superb 5* lens. Becoming food independent is a lovely idea. I don't grow much myself but when I do it is far superior in taste to the supermarket forced foods.
