I really must get one of these. I'm really sensitive to chemicals in laundry soap. Thanks for the great information.

What is the washing effect of eco wash balls in frontloaders compared to top loaders? With the ball in the front loader I will assume that the beating effect of the ball on the clothes will have a more positive rsult than in hte top loader?

    Please advise.

    Hi Eugene,
Top loaders aren't very common in the UK and wash-balls are quite popular here. I can;t really see there being much difference in effect on the wash when used in a top loader. The only thing I can see which would impede the wash in a top loader is if it was overfilled with laundry and the balls placed on the top. So, don;t overfill, and place the balls in first is my advice if using a top-loader.

I hadn't heard of eco wash balls, but I'll have to look for them. I currently use Trader Joe's detergent, and it's all natural.

Yes,I have been using them for years, now I need a replacement for the Eco-Ball, where can I purchase them in Waterloo County, Ontario?
  • The_Book_Garden Dec 1, 2009 @ 4:57 pm | delete
Hi Edith, not knowing the ontario area, I could only say have you checked out amazon?

Interesting lens. I have never heard of these before. I will have to try them as I strive to be more eco-friendly!

I'm always timid to buy things online. Are there stores that carry eco-balls or any eco-friendly products like this for that matter?

By detergent do you mean the enzyme concentrate? I found that some items that are particularly dirty or smelly may need a double dose of this to ensure a clean and fresh smelling wash.

Can you help? I have been using T waves for 4 months and initially they were good, but now they aren't cleaning so well and when I'm ironing my husbands clean shirts I don't feel they are really clean when I can still smell his aftershave! Should I replace them or just use some more detergent?

Just blogged about this on the Living the Green Organic Lifestyle Blog.

Great lens. I've tried them. They're OK. Much stronger than wash balls but not as strong as aquaballs. But still recommended as the eco alternative to commercial detergents

Great lens! I have recently started using the T-wave balls, only done two washes with them so far but they seem to be doing great. Their foam surrounds limit the noise they make too which is good news!

love this info. Will have to try some now. We have children with allergy's so we are always trying out different laundry powders to see which ones will be alright. This might be our solution Thanks 5 stars

If everyone tried to help the environment one bit at a time, the world may be a lot more cleaner than it is now. Even small things like this help. *thumbs up*

As Rikkitikki has discovered, there are some reputable companies out there and there are some that are not. The companies I list here are reputable and I can vouch for them personally as having good customer service. I'm still struggling to find US companies that stock eco-balls though, so if you know of any, drop me a line.

Also, it's reassuring to hear that others have the same problems with the cheaper plastic wash balls breaking and becoming unusable before you even get to the stage of needing to refill them. I'll update on how well The T-Wave balls are doing, so far so good though :)
  • Rikkitikki Jan 22, 2009 @ 9:01 am | delete
We have been using wash balls bought from BID TV. shopping channel for over a year now.Although the results are "magic" the outer plastic cage has broken(as you stated in tour article) and the company concerned , despite numerous attempts to make a complaint and even returning the faulty article, have not made any acknowledgdement of the problem. this means that you are left with all the refill balls which you can't use. BE WARNED!

You are so right that the environmental impact is huge & yet the solution to some of the problems is there if only people were willing to try new products and change the habits of a life time. It would make such a difference to our children and their children.

Really interesting product, I'll definitely consider getting one of these. Nice work.

I am a university student and I was sick of lugging heavy and not so eco- friendly detergent up and down my dorm stairs on a weekly basis. A few friends in Europe (why are they so much more eco friendly in Europe?) told me about this product (Green Wash Ball) they have been using---a green alternative to detergent. I was a bit skeptical, but did recently try the Green Wash Ball It is amazing! My clothes came out clean, bright and and smelling fresh!
