Reader Feedback

Do you have any experience with Solar power for homes?

I have ordered my own solar power to be installed soon, so I'll be posting some photos and results here for you when it's done.

I can't wait to see my electricity bills shrinking - as right now I pay up to $640 for every three months electricity - Yikes! I expect the bill to be halved when I get 1.9 kw of panels fitted.

If you have stories to share, please do!

Good to see that you're harnessing this technology to not only benefit your pocketbook, but also protect the environment. I guess with more and more people using it, the prices will keep dropping. At this time, I don't have any experience with solar power on this large scale. Good to see you're benefiting from it!

Thanks for dropping by and saying hello! We are lucky in Oz because we just had generous Government subsidies to help homeowners get started with solar power, so I was able to get a big discount for what I bought.
I think all homeowners need to make a commitment to getting solar heating, solar power, good insulation, good garden mulch and drip/mist watering systems, and rain water tanks. Been there, done them all!

I'm so excited! I finally had all 10 solar panels installed, just waiting for the inspectors to flick the switch so that it can start feeding the grid for my home energy and paid credits. It will save me a ton of money on the $200+ per month electricity bills.

This spring the solar heating worked like a charm, pushing warm roof air into the house rooms. As I'm paying $360 a month for gas central heating in the winter months, I really look forward to a cheap heating bill next winter!

When my photos are developed, I'll add some to the lens! Woot Woot!

    * If you don't know what 'woot' means or stands for - I've been using it for years without ever knowing the exact origins and actual meaning for it!

So now you know - WOOT means "Hurrah (Wow, Loot!)" or "Want One Of Those"

Both of which applies in this case! *

I have a couple of small panels. Good for charging batteries.

Well, that sure is a good start! I'm waiting for my 10 panels to get fitted, should power the house during the daytime and give me some credits to help pay for the nighttime use of electricity.

I'm excited to be getting some 'solar heating' installed this week! It will pump hot air from my roof into the house rooms - I hope to massively cut my gas central heating bills this winter - woot woot!

Not yet, but I have 38 cells lying on my desk waiting to be put together and taken outside for some sun soon! Great lens!

Solar panels are not perfect solution, but definitely one of best options at the moment. I had a solar cell powered calculator in high school. It lasted four years, complete college and it stillworks as new today - 25 years later. No batteries! This is ultimate eco, I guess!
  • Helene-Malmsio Jun 21, 2011 @ 11:57 pm | delete
LOL! I know - I have a solar powered calculator that I bought in 1990 and it still works like a champion after much, much work in my jobs.
I look forward to my solar power being installed to my house, as at least I can generate my own power, and wind turbines are too noisy and unreliable, so this is the best option for me right now.
  • Helene-Malmsio Sep 3, 2011 @ 2:11 am | delete
aaaaawwwww.... I finally had to retire my old solar powered calculator to the rubbish bin.

It cost me $20 in 1990 - and I think the newer ones I have had floating around the office were about $5 each... They are all the big tablet sized calculators for serious budget submission report work!

RIP my very first solar power equipment purchase ever made!
