Producing and consuming with environmental consciousness
I'm expressing my opinion here, I don't pretend it to be the absolute truth
To start I think all products that are hand made are already more environment friendly then a mass produced in a factory item. Then there are the materials used to make the product.
So anything that is made with petrol base, like plastic and resin is not eco-friendly.
Metal and gemstones are natural but not eco-friendly as the process of mining is very environment harming.
Recycling plastic and metals, or upcycling old vintage pieces into new pieces are great ways to transform those materials into environment friendly pieces.
Why make new when we can recycle the old!!
Bone and horn?? Yes, I think making things with them is recycling organic materials.
Why the heck should we put in the trash??
Organic cotton and bamboo fabrics, are they eco-friendly??
Organic cotton means the crops had no pesticides or any chemical products during plant growth and that low impact dyings and bleaching alternatives will be used in place of the traditional heavy metals like chromium and copper for dying and chloride for bleaching.
Bamboo crops are more sustainable culture then cotton, but still to be eco-friendly has to be treated with no chemicals.
Best is to use organic unbleached textiles.
Ecolabels
But because there is no single international standard for this concept, the International Organization for Standardization considers such labels too vague to be meaningful.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency has deemed this language useless in determining whether a product is truly "green"...
Ambiguous titles such as environmentally friendly can be confusing without a specific definition; some regulators are providing guidance.
Canada's Environmental Choice Program is an ecolabelling scheme that was established in 1988 with over 300 categories of products to help consumers identify services/products which are less harmful to the environment.

The EcoLogo is North America's most respected and established multi-attribute environmental standard and certification mark. In a skeptical marketplace, EcoLogo builds the trust needed by providing scientific credibility and proof of environmental leadership.
European Eco-label it's a voluntary scheme designed to encourage businesses to market products and services that are kinder to the environment and for European consumers ,including public and private purchasers,to easily identify them.
The labels are awarded on environmental criteria set by the European Union.Eco-label rules covers the whole life cycle of a product, from the extraction of raw materials, through manufacture, distribution, use and disposal of the product. The first products to carry the EU ecolabel were washing machines, paper towels, writing paper and light bulbs.

Go Green Simple Every Day Actions

Of course is major that the big corporations make a change to produce based on sustainability instead of profit and applying technology to intelligently manage the earth resources.
But as individuals we must start to take the good action every day and change the environment around us.
Education is the best tool to change something... educate yourself first and the people around you... people have to be concerned and they must be aware that they can make a difference.
# Take care and Recycle your trash!! Separating plastic from paper, cans and biomass is simple just requires some organization in the kitchen. If you live in house make compost for the garden!!!

Save energy!! Change the lamp bulbs for fluorescent bulbs that are less energy consuming, stand by function is consuming energy for nothing, placing a device to switch off all electronics in the house is a good idea.

# Respect nature by eating season's fruits and vegetables! Strawberry in the winter is not normal!!!!

- I started a compost bin last April. I am getting nice dark compost now just in time for planting. I decided to plant some food sources this year because of the recession.
I am also collecting water when it rains for the new garden.
