Without getting too technical they require a lot more bells and whistles that at traditional web hosting company will offer. True, a lot of hosting companies do offer eCommerce setups, but can they really support your needs?

Name Is Everything
You do have to have a good name in order to succeed. Don't go with something that is too long, but rather take the time to come up with a good list of names. Personally, I am a designer so I know the first thing that comes to the top of my head isn't usually the best idea. In fact, I usually NEVER pick the first name I come up with. Take the time and brainstorm a bit.

Good Design
Your site design needs to be professional. People do not feel safe spending money online if your site looks like a little kid did it. It is a trust factor and a good design can really bring you a lot of business. I commonly, see a lot of websites that are subpar and wonder what kind of sales they actually get from it. Chances are without a good design your site is going to suffer tremendously from it.

Methods of Payment
An eCommerce site would not exist if it didn't except payments. Your site needs to be secure and you have a good method for accepting payments. Problems will arrive and you have to be able to track your payments for customers. Also, if you are going to be doing international orders you have to have a good way to convert the payments for your customers.

Above all things you have to have a solid eCommerce business plan if you want to excel in the eCommerce world. It can be very challenging; I am not going to disregard that, but with a little know-how you should be able to get your business started within a matter of months.

I do want to touch upon the fact that it does take work in order to establish a presence online. So if you think it is going to be a walk in the park you should probably stop reading this article. As you can clearly see eBay is great for getting your business started. When you first start an eCommerce business you don't have any presence at all. This allows you to use an established company as a stepping stone in order to reach out to hundreds or even thousands of people. However, just remember that you want to start auctions throughout the day and you want them to be up for 7-10 days. The more exposure the better.

Another thing that this video doesn't touch upon that I want to touch on is that you NEED an "about me" page. In order to take advantage of a good eCommerce business plan you need to have about me page that has a link to your eCommerce site. This will give people the option to go to your site directly by clicking on your eBay link.

Like eBay Amazon is a great way to sell your items. However, you can not do an auction on Amazon you can have items for sale. You will be selling them on the front end in order to get some sales and essentially get your name out there. A key tip for selling on Amazon is to check with your competition and list your items for less or equal to their listing.

The cheap and savvy is the kind of buyers you would be targeting. Don't worry about getting a ton of sales on Amazon. The overall plan is to get people off Amazon and onto your website where they can buy your products directly from you. Just stick to the plan see the big picture.

These two tips should really help in establishing an eCommerce business plan. Once you follow these tips you should really be able to do it all on your own within a couple months. However, this does not mean that you can't use both Amazon and eBay to get more business.
