The Religion of Peace
Ecumenism is derived from the Greek word 'oikoumene', which literally translates to 'the inhabited world'. Lately, ecumenism has become a movement among various Christian denominations and sects to bring about a 'unity' of sorts. Currently, there are more than 50 different versions of the Bible and more than 500 documented denominations among Christians - each having their own independent belief systems. Apart from this lot, we also have a major divide between the Catholics and the Protestants. Now, which practicing form of Christianity is the right one!? It is in fact anybody's guess that there is a new break-away sect being created every other day!
If ever there is a need for Ecumenism, or the convergence of religious beliefs (in his inhabited world of humans and life-forms), it has to be within humans and humanity as a whole, to encompass a wider world view from a larger perspective.
No astronaut or cosmonaut or what-nauts (including the aliens) would be able to perceive or identify the different states or different countries from the outer space. Maps are the mental conditioners for the human minds to fight the territorial battles, much like the wilder critters, spraying their scents to demarcate territories. Religion is another major mental barrier to demarcate and delineate the 'birds of the similar feathers' and to socially identify and integrate. Christianity today is akin to the community of birds. They all have feathers and most can fly. Most may fly off to heaven, and some may be served as soup, to Satan and the devils. Maybe the Pope is privy to certain secrets which you and I are not entitled to know!?
I am not a world scholar enough to have studied 'world religions'. But the past 5 years have taken me closer to the study in contrast, of the 'roots of Christianity' and the mother of many Vedic religions, including Buddhism and Hinduism - Sanatana Dharma.
Here I present my lenses in no great order, which begs to believe that the essence for mankind, is to believe and live up to the same truth, irrespective of any religion. Christianity and the Vedic religions talk about the same truths. It is for the discerning reader to decipher the TRUTH, for the Self to know and realize.

In today's world, both the political leaders and the religious leaders, need their scent-marked territories and their boundaries to survive. They think and act like they are the 'Alpha males' of the human kingdom, and they definitely do not like their territories to be encroached upon.
The world view of an atheist or an agnostic person is much better off, because they either do not believe in boundaries or they choose to be ignorant about it. It can be best said that they both are closer to realization, within or without.
Humans need humanity and humaneness more than anything else. Anything and everything else, is the real 'Cancer' in the global society.
Thank you and God bless!

- Another very good and triggering lens!
I'm not judging anyone's believes - I do believe in God as a special and paramount force above us, but still consider that humans should have a single religion.
Sometimes I'm wondering if all religions are teaching us about love, communication and so many other good aspects, why they reach to be so many, and why they do split people in various categories, put labels, bring rules, fear and hate?
In a single religion should be no discrepancy, no differences that, usually, are leading to argues, fights, wars... and we should simply enjoy our ephemeral existence in peace doing our best to evoluate and enlighten the inner self... Illusion!? :)

- All religions were created by the same God in order to teach us different aspects of our complex spiritual reality. All religions are based on love, altruism, sincerity, humbleness, and compassion, but each religion unfolds different truths. I’m glad I found a lens about this topic!

- Great subject. I think there may be times when it is healthy for a person to believe in "one" religion. But I also believe that tolerance and being at piece with others having beliefs that are different from your own is a very healthy outlook.

- I answered, "I don't believe in religion' - for me, it's all anthropomorphic of an energy that knows no labels. I like what you said about astronauts seeing the earth as a whole from space - undivided by religion. When we pick up a straw that looks through to a certain religion only, we may might miss out on God.
