"godfather of modern tattoo"
Among the tattoo community, Don Ed Hardy is referred to by many as the "godfather of modern tattoo". With 40 years of tattooing under his belt, he is known around the world for his designs and imagery. A California native born in 1945, he is a painter, printmaker and tattoo artist. His fascination for tattoo art began when his was a child and he has mastered his craft while working in more traditional fields such as drawing and painting.In 1981 Hardy and his wife formed Hardy Marks Publications began publishing the five book series Tattootime. Tattootime was one of several publications that helped to promote and popularize tattooing with new audiences.
In 2000, he completed a 500 foot long scroll painting of 2000 dragons in honor of the turn of the millennium and the Dragon year.
In 2004 Christian Audigier licensed the rights to produce the high-end Ed Hardy clothing line, which is based on Hardy's imagery.
Today Hardy is retired from doing actual tattoos, but oversees and mentors the artists at his San Francisco studio, Tattoo City.

Christian Audigier is a French fashion designer and entrepreneur. He was born in the city of Avignon in the South of France.Christian Audigier is a fashion icon. He has applied his design experience and business know-how to create a successful entitiy in less than four years. With his collection of international companies, he has launched nine popular brands with over sixty licenses. Some of his designer brands included: Ed Hardy, Christian Audigier, Evel Knievel, Rock Fabulous, Savoir Faire, Crystal Rock (named after his daughter, Crystal), SMET, C-Bar and Paco Chicano. His fashions are sold Worldwide.
Christian began his career in fashion at MacKeen Jeans and has contributed to successful brands such as Diesel, Fiorucci, Bisou Bisou, Levi's, NafNaf and American Outfitters. Christian's style is so distinctive that he is known as the "King of Jeans."
One of his most notable achievements was being the primary force behind the rise of Von Dutch, and making the Von Dutch hat a style trend.
In 2004, he created and launched the wildly popular Ed Hard brand. He was granted the exclusive rights to the designs of Don Ed Hardy. With Ed Hardy, Christian not only created a brand, but a lifestyle of street couture.
Christian has built a fervent following for his Ed Hardy and celebrities such as Madonna, Britney Spears, and Kanye West, among others are frequently seen wearing his unique designs. His celebrity following includes more than 5,000 celebrities, athletes and musicians of all genres.
In 2008, Christian announced his latest venture, When I Move You Move, the Trade Show, exclusively showcasing the entire family of Audigier brands. Included are the more than 60 licensees who produce everything from jewelry, skateboards, chocolates, wine, water, vodka, and even air fresheners.
He appears on many fashion television shows including America's/Australia's/Germany's "Next Top Model."
He currently resides with his family in Los Angeles, California.

- I always thought Ed Hardy was a younger guy. I can't seem to fit him in with the style of clothing he makes. I like a little Ed Hardy now and then, I have several shirts of his. As much as some people hate how popular it's become, his work gives me an impression of classic tattoo styles.
