EDGAR CAYCE PSYCHIC/MYSTIC

Have we lived before? Are Reincarnation and Christianity compatible? Am I a reincarnated being? Does reincarnation provide clues and even definitive information proving there is an afterlife? Is there really life after death after life after death and so on? Could some of my dreams and déjà vu moments be responses to past life memories?

Edgar Cayce was, after a great deal of soul searching, a true believer in reincarnation and he had to be as evidenced by the information in the following Reading excerpt. "For the entity came not merely by chance. For, the earth is a causation world, for in the earth, cause and effect are as the natural law. And as each soul enters this material plane, it is to meet or to give those lessons or truths that others, too, may gain the more knowledge of the purpose for which each soul enters." [Edgar Cayce Reading 3645-1]

Edgar Cayce considered karma to be the cause and effect that dictated reincarnation. Cayce linked many health problems, mental problems relationship problems, etc. to karma. The essence of Cayce's karmic beliefs was that you returned to physical life to deal with problems produced in the past, as evidenced by the following two excerpts from Readings.
33. Hence the entity is meeting self again in the present experience, when it attempts to impel or to impose those directions for a general nature. [Edgar Cayce Reading 1927-1]
5. For, in part the entity is meeting self, from those of its experiences in the earth. [Edgar Cayce Reading 2828-1]

Cayce did not do past life regressions as we think of them today. He would reference two or three past lives that had a bearing on what a person was experiencing in their present life. Whether it was health problems, phobias, personal relationships or occupations, Cayce felt that past life memories influence the present. He also felt everyone had a Life Purpose and that by looking at the pertinent past, a better life view could be obtained.

Edgar Cayce believed soul reincarnation was an ongoing spiritual journey to better oneself as stated in the following excerpt. "...For life IS continuous! There is no halting. We either progress or retrogress.. ." [Edgar Cayce Reading 1474-1]

The following excerpt from a Reading is a direct reference to reincarnation; "Not all of the sojourns in the earth may be given in the present, but those that make the entity aware of the urges that are latent and that are gradually coming to be manifested by the application of the traits of individuals. Not that the individuals in the various appearances are different, for - though they bore different names, different characteristics - they are one" [Edgar Cayce Reading 2246-1]

To better understand the significance of the Edgar Cayce reincarnation Readings, a brief history of how he was introduced to the subject is in order.

On October 11, 1923 Cayce was in Dayton, Ohio to give a series of Readings to Arthur Lammers. Lammers had made a brief visit to Selmer, Alabama where Cayce was living at the time. He had heard of Edgar and wished to observe some sessions as he felt there must be other ways to use Cayce's gift to help people.

After being convinced that Cayce's gift was real, Lammers invited him to come to Dayton to answer questions about psychic phenomenon and the immortality of man. Edgar was cautious, but also curious. He also thought that God might be opening a new path for him to help people, so he consented to go.

As the first Reading began, the Conductor* Linden Shroyer is assumed to have asked a question about Astrology, a subject in which Arthur Lammers was interested. Then near the end of the [Edgar Cayce Reading 5717-1], Cayce shocked everyone by saying, "He was once a monk."

Lammers was elated and excited at the prospect of finding facts to perhaps support the many metaphysical subjects in which he was interested. Edgar Cayce on the other hand had no knowledge of these esoteric subjects beyond his deep Orthodox Christian faith and the use of his "gift" to help people who were injured or ill.

Cayce was dismayed and confused by the information he had given. After discussion and debate with his family and others present for the Reading, Cayce reluctantly agreed to give Lammers further Readings on the subjects of Reincarnation and Astrology.

Thus began a 22 year history of what came to be designated as Life Readings, as opposed to Physical Readings which dealt with health and healing. These Readings were to expand to a great many other "occult" and mystical subjects, such as; Dreams, Meditation, Soul Mates, Ancient Civilizations, Karma, Life Purpose, Relationships, Parenting, Children, The Akashic Records and many other subjects.

An interesting side note. In 1976, Gladys Davis, Cayce's long time secretary found the following statement in [Edgar Cayce Reading 4841-1] given on April 22, 1911; "We have it obtaining [prevailing?, succeeding?] in the oldest body, as its soul is transmigrated." No one caught this reference to reincarnation until 73 years after it was given.

Since Edgar Cayce's work was so well documented, his past life Readings can be taken as, at the very least, nominal proof that the concept of reincarnation and life after death are valid. Even Cayce himself experienced a great deal of doubt and anxiety before he could accept these concepts. After all, how could Christianity accommodate past life experiences and past life memories?

However, as he continued to give Life Readings and the reincarnation stories grew in number, he was forced to accept the validity of the idea. He began to see Biblical passages in a new light. He realized that, although attempts had been made to remove reincarnation references from the scriptures, there were still traces and hints to be found.

As people began to learn of and request Life Readings, more and more details emerged. Past lives emerged from ages as varied as Atlantis to the Crusades, from Ancient Egypt to Colonial America, from early Greece to the American Civil War and all the periods of history in between.

Cayce's Readings reveal that past life experiences can, and usually do, surface in all aspects of our day to day lives. Edgar Cayce stated in his Readings, and eventually personally believed, that our health, relationship issues (romantic, family, parental, friends, etc.), mental illness and psychological issues, vocational successes and difficulties, other mental and physical abilities, personality and all other human traits were likely influenced by past reincarnation and the Karma they had generated.

For anyone who is uncomfortable with their present spiritual view or lack of one, a study of reincarnation may be helpful. If you are new to the concept of reincarnation, the Edgar Cayce material is a good place to start your study. If you are knowledgeable of reincarnation, but not familiar with the Cayce slant, a consideration of the Cayce material might prove interesting.

I would like to end with a brief quotation from Gina Cerminara's excellent book, Many Mansions - The Edgar Cayce Story On Reincarnation. The quote is as follows: "To the person who can accept it, reincarnation offers a purpose for living, a pole-star by which to travel, and an assurance that he is not lost in a meaningless chaos of forces over which he has no ultimate control."

*The Conductor of a Reading was in charge of asking Cayce questions and guarding Cayce's wellbeing while he was in trance. The Conductor was always someone Cayce trusted, because in early Readings he had been taken advantage of and coerced into giving information he would not have done willingly. This information used by people for their own personal gain had negative repercussions on Cayce's health and mental state, thus the personally selected and trusted "Conductor".

Edgar Cayce and the Akashic Records are inseparably joined. The Akashic Records were Edgar Cayce's self declared source of information. During a self imposed sleeping state or trance, Cayce's "Higher Self" would journey upward to what he called the Akashic Records or Hall of Records.

When Cayce was asked how he accessed the Records, he described an out of body experience following a path of light. At the end of his journey he would "Quite suddenly I come upon a hall of records. It is a hall without walls, without ceiling, but I am conscious of seeing an old man who hands me a large book, a record of the individual for whom I seek information." [Edgar Cayce Case 294-19]

The following is an example of a Reading given by Cayce, his reference to the Akashic Record and what information he will give to the individual in the Reading; "Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [3902]. In giving the interpretations of the records, written or imposed or impressed upon the skein of time and space, or the Akashic records in God's book of remembrances, these we find: We would choose from these records that which if applied in the experience will bring a better interpretation of the how and why that there are certain latent and manifested urges in the abilities of the entity in the present, which if applied in a constructive, creative way may bring a better ability of the entity to apply itself in being a channel, a manifestation of those divine influences that are the cause and purpose of the entity's appearance in the earth in the present." [Edgar Cayce Reading 3902-2]

Edgar Cayce's Akashic Record Readings were then taken from the Akashic book he was handed by the old man. In this book representing the records of the person receiving the Reading, Cayce was able to access all the information about their life. This record included a person's spiritual history, history of reincarnation, as well as every deed and thought the individual had ever had. He then took from the Records what he knew to be the information needed by the individual to answer their question and fulfill their Life Purpose. When Cayce was asked in a Reading what the Book Of Life, or Akashic Record was, he answered, "The record that the individual entity itself writes upon the skein of time and space, through patience - and is opened when self has attuned to the infinite, and may be read by those attuning to that consciousness." [Edgar Cayce Reading 2533-8] Edgar Cayce believed these records were everywhere and were constantly being accessed sub consciously by many.

Cayce believed there were three levels of consciousness: the conscious, the sub conscious and the super conscious. Once the super conscious was accessed, the Universe was open to the individual. Also at this level, communication and interaction is available to the super consciousness of other individuals.

The Akashic information and personal information is available at a soul level as memory, or Karma, and is what an entity must deal with in the present life. The Akashic Records are the total of all we have ever been and done. Each life has a reason for being and birth is not by chance. The following is from an Edgar Cayce Reading; "In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here for this entity, these are chosen with the desire, the purpose, that this may be a helpful experience for the entity; that it may realize or become aware of the purposes for which it entered this material plane. For, a birth into materiality is not by chance, but that the will of the Creative Forces may make manifest in the experience of each soul, its purpose in a material and mental plane."[Edgar Cayce Reading 2073-2]

The Akashic Records even offers a glimpse of the future, but only as a continuously changing pattern of possibilities. Because of free will we always have a choice as to what our future will be. Each thought, each word, each action, all create an array of possibilities. So, we are constantly making choices that will affect our present and future life and lives. Everyone should strive to make the best possible choices for soul advancement.

Since the Akashic Record is also referred to as "The Book of Life", we should be mindful that we are the author of our particular chapter in this Universal Book. Each life we receive is a chance to write a positive story of accomplishment and good deeds. We all have to deal with past actions or Karma. If we do not address and rectify the "baggage" from the past while in the present, we will have to address the same issue(s) in future incarnations.

Cayce does warn that some may interpret the Akashic Records better than others, because as in all things psychic; symbols, thoughts, ideas, pictures, etc. must be filtered through the readers perception and knowledge base. "In giving the interpretations of the records of this entity, much appears upon the record in symbols; indicating - as we find - the varied appearances of the entity in the earth's plane, oft not remaining for long periods." [Edgar Cayce Reading 2498-1]

Again Cayce used the Akashic Records as a way to help people as seen in the following. "These interpretations of the records, as we find them, are given with the purpose and the desire that this be a helpful experience for the entity as well as for those responsible for its advent in this particular period, or environment; in preparing, in training, in directing the activities and the thoughts in such ways and manners that the entity may better fill that purpose for which it entered this material experience." [Edgar Cayce Reading 2498-1]

We need to remember that everything we do, think or say is being recorded. "Thus the records are taken from this skein of time and space. Hence, as an entity enters and leaves consciousness in materiality, there is left upon time and space that which has been the activity, - thus there may be the interpreting of same." [Edgar Cayce Reading 2144-1]

Live well. Journey well. Reach for enlightenment. A record is being kept.

Edgar Cayce believed Astrology involved reincarnation, past lives, karma and life purpose as well as the planets, stars and other celestial bodies. His view of Astrology is not that held by many present day Astrologers. Cayce believed we bring abilities and influences, both good and bad, from past lives into the present. We then chose our birth date in deference to what we wish to accomplish in our incarnation.

Edgar Cayce's twist on Astrology was that we chose the Astrological influences into which we would be born, rather than being born randomly and dealing with whatever influences Astrology had, by chance, forced upon us.

The most noteworthy fact, in my opinion, was that Cayce always believed that free will was the overriding force in human experience. No matter what Astrological signs or other life situations under which you were born, you can, by free will, negate their influence. We write our own futures, but according to Cayce, need to be aware of the tendencies, urges and inclinations that Astrology exerts on our lives. Edgar Cayce also warns us not to be controlled by Astrology. Astrological Readings are only dealing with signs and symbols and should be viewed as possible assistance, not as an infallible guide.

Here is Edgar Cayce's own Astrology definition, given in a Reading in 1923.

29. (Q) Please give a definition of the word astrology.
(A) That position in space about our own earth that is under the control of the forces that are within the sphere of that control, and all other spheres without that control. That is, astrology the study of those conditions.

In the beginning, our own plane, the Earth, was set in motion. The planning of other planets began the ruling of the destiny of all matters as created, just as the division of waters was ruled and is ruled by the Moon in its path about the earth; just so as the higher creation as it begun is ruled by its action in conjunction with the planets about the earth. The strongest force used in the destiny of man is the Sun first, then the closer planets to the earth, or those that are coming to ascension at the time of the birth of the individual, BUT LET IT BE UNDERSTOOD HERE, NO ACTION OF ANY PLANET OR THE PHASES OF THE SUN, THE MOON OR ANY OF THE HEAVENLY BODIES SURPASS THE RULE OF MAN'S WILL POWER, THE power given by the Creator of man, in the beginning, when he became a living soul, with the power of choosing for himself. The inclinations of man are ruled by the planets under which he is born, for the destiny of man lies within the sphere or scope of the planets.

30. (Q) Do the planets have an effect on the life of every individual born?
(A) They have. Just as this earth's forces were set in motion, and about it, those forces that govern the elements, elementary so, of the earth's sphere or plane, and as each comes under the influence of those conditions, the influence is to the individual without regards to the will, which is the developing factor of man, in which such is expressed through the breath of the Creator, and as one's plane of existence is lived out from one sphere to another they come under the influence of those to which it passes from time to time. [Edgar Cayce Reading 3744-4]

The next quote comes directly from the same Reading answering the question of the importance of studying Astrology.
35. (Q) Is it proper for us to study the effects of the planets on our lives in order to better understand our tendencies and inclinations, as influenced by the planets?
(A) When studied aright, very, very, very much so. How aright then? In that influence as is seen in the influence of the knowledge already obtained by mortal man. Give more of that into the lives, giving the understanding THAT THE WILL MUST BE THE EVER GUIDING FACTOR TO LEAD MAN ON, EVER UPWARD. [Edgar Cayce Reading 3744-4]

When asked if Astrological influences could help a person live better, the following was Cayce's reply:
36. (Q) In what way should astrology be used to help man live better in the present physical plane?
(A) In that which the position of the planets give the tendencies in a given life, without reference to the will. Then let man, the individual, understand how WILL may overcome, for we all must overcome, if we would, in any wise, enter in. Not that the position gives man the transport, but that that force as manifested in the creation of man wherein choice between the good and evil, exercising highest will force, may be manifested the greater in man. DO THAT. [Edgar Cayce Reading 3744-4]

How did Edgar Cayce address those who felt Astrology was foolishness? The following is taken from a Reading given in 1940.
6. Astronomy is considered a science and astrology foolishness. Who is correct? One holds that because of the position of the earth, the sun, the planets, they are balanced one with another in some manner, some form; yet that they have nothing to do with man's life or the expanse of life, or the emotions of the physical being in the earth.

7. Then, why and how do the effects of the sun SO influence other life in the earth and not affect MAN'S life, man's emotions?

8. As the sun has been set as the ruler of this solar system, does it not appear to be reasonable that it HAS an effect upon the inhabitants of the earth, as well as upon plant and mineral life in the earth?

9. Then if not, why, how did the ancients worship the sun AS the representative of a continuous benevolent and beneficent influence upon the life of the individual?

10. Thus as we find given, the sun and the moon and the stars were made also, - this being the attempt of the writer to convey to the individual the realization that there IS an influence in their activity! For, remember, they - the sun, the moon, the planets - have their marching orders from the divine, and they move in same. [Edgar Cayce Reading 5757-1]

Cayce seldom, if ever talks about Astrology without a reference to Free Will. The concept of Free Will is very important to understanding all of the Edgar Cayce Readings.
11. Man alone is given that birthright of free will. He alone may defy his God! [Edgar Cayce Reading 5757-1]

Is a study of Astrology a good idea? Edgar Cayce thought it was.
27. (Q) Would it be well for me to make a study of astrology?
(A) Well for everyone to make a study of astrology! for, as indicated, while many individuals have set about to prove the astrological aspects and astrological survey enable one to determine future as well as the past conditions, these are well to the point where the individual understands that these act upon individuals because of their sojourn or correlation of their associations with the environs through which these are shown - see? Rather than the star directing the life, the life of the individual directs the courses of the stars, see? for was it not given when His star appeared? Is it not shown in all the studies of the positions that the earth occupies in its course through the spheres that every condition is as cause and effect? but that the scale has gradually been on the increase for the individuals as they passed through their various experiences in the cycles of position? [Edgar Cayce Reading 311-10]

Edgar Cayce always suggested we draw our own conclusions from the information he presented. Our life is our own and by Free Will we have the right to live a wonderful, noble life or screw up our lives as badly as we chose.

Edgar Cayce was asked to interpret more than one thousand dreams. He believed that dreams provided a look inside the mind and even the soul. The meaning of dreams often furnishes us with information that can help live a better life and perhaps better define our Life's purpose.

Cayce felt that an individual was their own best dream interrupter. This is seldom easy, but if one assumes a type of reasoning is present in dreams, it becomes a more manageable task. Consider that we may be gathering scattered facts from our minds and trying to make sense of these facts by constructing a dream.

As dream symbolism is so complex and dream analysis is so different for each individual, I am not going to present much information here. I am going to provide you with links that will give you an overview of Edgar Cayce's dream philosophy. Cayce was a great believer in the individual taking responsibility for themselves. Therefore, the best possible solution would be to become your own dream interpreter.

I like Edgar Cayce's approach to dream interpretation as it is not a "one size fits all", "cookie cutter" method. We are all individuals and the composite of all our past experiences. Edgar Cayce felt meditation was the most powerful tool that could be used to expand oneself spiritually. Cayce's Readings contained instructions as to how to meditate, the proper meditation technique and encouragement for daily meditation. Learning meditation was an action highly recommended by Edgar Cayce.

Cayce even advocated Christian meditation, which was a radical concept indeed sixty to seventy-five years ago. Meditation did not gain much popularity in the United States until the 1960s and 1970s. Only in the past few years could the discipline of meditation be considered mainstream in America. Now the meditation practice is used for everything from lowering blood pressure to contacting one's higher self.

Although Edgar Cayce defined meditation in slightly different ways at different times, the following quote is the most widely known. "MEDITATION is EMPTYING self of all that hinders the creative forces from rising along the natural channels of the physical man to be disseminated through those centers and sources that create the activities of the physical, the mental, the spiritual man; properly done must make one STRONGER mentally, physically, for has it not been given?..." [Edgar Cayce Reading 281-13]

Here is another explanation of meditation from a Cayce Reading.
"But, ye ask, what has this to do with meditation? What IS meditation? It is not musing, not daydreaming; but as ye find your bodies made up of the physical, mental and spiritual, it is the attuning of the mental body and the physical body to its spiritual source. "Then, it is the attuning of thy physical and mental attributes seeking to know the relationships to the Maker. THAT is true meditation. How do you accomplish same? How would ye as an individual go about learning to meditate? For, ye must learn to meditate, - just as ye have learned to walk, to talk, to do any of the physical attributes of thy mind as compared to the relationships with the facts, the attitudes, the conditions, the environs of thy daily surroundings.
Then, there must be a conscious contact with that which is a part of thy body-physical, thy body-mental, to thy soul- body or thy super consciousness. The names indicate that ye have given it metes and bounds, while the soul is boundless - and is represented by many means or measures or manners in the expressions in the mind of each of you. [Edgar Cayce Reading 281-41]

The following quote from the same Reading gives some of the benefits of meditation. "As has been given, there are DEFINITE conditions that arise from within the inner man when an individual enters into true or deep meditation. A physical condition happens, a physical activity takes place! Acting through what? Through that man has chosen to call the imaginative or the impulsive, and the sources of impulse are aroused by the shutting out of thought pertaining to activities or attributes of the carnal forces of man. That is true whether we are considering it from the group standpoint or the individual. Then, changes naturally take place when there is the arousing of that stimuli WITHIN the individual that has within it the seat of the soul's dwelling, within the individual body of the entity or man, and then this partakes of the individuality rather than the personality." [Edgar Cayce Reading 281-13]

Few subjects excite the human imagination more than the legend of Atlantis the lost continent. The Atlantis continent and Atlantis civilization were referenced in approximately eight hundred Cayce Readings. Edgar Cayce's Atlantis Readings tell of a civilization that was, in many ways, more technologically advanced than present day America. The misuse and abuse of science and technology was what started Atlantis on the road to destruction.

According to Cayce's timeline of events, the first major destruction was unleashed by the main Atlantis power source about 50,000 B.C. The second catastrophe occurred between 28,000 and 29000 B. C. The final destruction of Atlantis happened about 10,500 B.C. This final disaster that saw the remainder of Atlantis lost would have been the legend of Atlantis Plato recorded.

Cayce's Readings tell us that some of Atlantis' inhabitants foresaw the final destruction and fled to other continents and other nations. These previous citizens of ancient Atlantis were absorbed into other ancient cultures, but their stories endured to become the Atlantis myth of Plato's time which he, in turn, passed on to us.

Many Atlantis theories agree with Cayce's Atlantis location stated in his Readings. Cayce and others have said that remnants of the Atlantis land mass survive today as islands in the Gulf of Mexico and the nearby Atlantic Ocean.

During a Reading, Edgar Cayce was asked specifically about Atlantis and this is what was said.

2. Atlantis, as a continent is a legendary tale. Whether or not that which has been received through psychic sources has for its basis those few lines given by Plato, or the references made in Holy writ that the earth was divided, depends upon the trend of individual minds. Recently, however, the subject has taken on greater import, since some scientists have declared that such a continent was not only a reasonable and plausible matter, but from evidences being gradually gathered was a very probable condition.

3. As we recognize, there has been considerable given respecting such a lost continent by those channels such as the writer of Two Planets, or Atlantis- or Poseida and Lemuria - that has been published through some of the Theosophical literature. As to whether this information is true or not, depends upon the credence individuals give to this class of information.

4. Then, it has seemed well to many of this group, that those channels through which information may be obtained interest themselves in such an undertaking, as to gain through those channels such information that might be applicable in the lives or experiences of individuals interested in such.

5. From time to time, in and through the information obtained for some individuals in their life readings, has come that they, as an entity or individual, occupied some particular place, or performed some activity in some portion of that continent; or emigrated from the continent to some other portion of the earth's surface at the time, and began some particular development. These must have been a busy folk, for with their advent into other climes (as the information runs) they began to make many changes from the activities in that particular sphere in which they entered.

6. Then, if we are to accept such as being a fact or fiction, may truly depend upon what value to the human family knowledge concerning such a peoples would be in the affairs of individuals today. What contribution would information be to the minds of individuals, as to knowing or understanding the better or closer relations to the Creative Forces? Or, to put it another manner, what would information of that nature mean to my SOUL today?

7. Be it true that there IS the fact of reincarnation, and that souls that once occupied such an environ are entering the earth's sphere and inhabiting individuals in the present, is it any wonder that - if they made such alterations in the affairs of the earth in their day, as to bring destruction upon themselves - if they are entering now, they might make many changes in the affairs of peoples and individuals in the present? Are they, then, BEING born into the world? If so, what WERE their environs - and will those environs mean in a material world today? [Edgar Cayce Reading 364-1]

The following Reading gives Edgar Cayce's description of the Atlantis location.

3. The position as the continent Atlantis occupied, is that as between the Gulf of Mexico on the one hand - and the Mediterranean upon the other. Evidences of this lost civilization are to be found in the Pyrenees and Morocco on the one hand, British Honduras, Yucatan and America upon the other. There are some protruding portions within this that must have at one time or another been a portion of this great continent. The British West Indies or the Bahamas, and a portion of same that may be seen in the present - if the geological survey would be made in some of these - especially, or notably, in Bimini and in the Gulf Stream through this vicinity, these may be even yet determined. Edgar Cayce gave many hints that earth changes would occur in the years to come. He even predicted a pole shift that he said would begin in 1958 and be complete in the 1998 to 2000 time frame as stated in the following excerpt. "In the record chambers there were more ceremonies than in calling the peoples at the finishing of that called the pyramid. For, here those that were trained in the Temple of Sacrifice as well as in the Temple Beautiful were about the sealing of the record chambers. For, these were to be kept as had been given by the priests in Atlantis or Poseidia (Temple), when these records of the race, of the developments, of the laws pertaining to one* were put in their chambers and to be opened only when there was the returning of those into materiality, or to earth's experience, when the change was imminent in the earth; which change, we see, begins in '58 and ends with the changes wrought in the upheavals and the shifting of the poles, as begins then the reign in '98 (as time is counted in the present) of those influences that have been given by many in the records that have been kept by those sojourners in this land of the Semitic peoples." [Edgar Cayce Reading 378-16]

Although his timing may not have been correct, many psychics and some scientists see a pole shift as possible or even probable. In 2004 PBS aired a NOVA program entitled "MAGNETIC STORM" in which scientists discussed a magnetic pole shift and the possible consequences.

It is very possible the shift has begun, but the severest effects will not be recognized by most until sometime around the date of December 21, 2012. This date is the end of the final stage of the Mayan Long Count Calendar. The shifting of the earth's poles is specifically mentioned in the following excerpt. "11. (Q) What great change or the beginning of what change, if any, is to take place in the earth in the year 2,000 to 2,001 A.D.? (A) When there is a shifting of the poles." [Edgar Cayce Reading 826-8]

One of the more interesting of the Cayce Readings that mention a drastic earth change is present in the following excerpt. In this Reading Edgar Cayce is addressing a future personal reincarnation and describes the location. "I had been born again in 2158 A.D. in Nebraska. the sea apparently covered all of the western part of the country, as the city where I lived was on the coast. The family name was a strange one. At an early age as a child I declared myself to be Edgar Cayce who had lived 200 yrs. before. Scientists, men with long beards, little hair, and thick glasses, were called in to observe me. They decided to visit the places where I said I had been born, lived and worked, in Ky., Ala., N.Y., Mich., and Va. Taking me with them the group of scientists visited these places in along, cigar-shaped, metal flying ship which moved at high speed. Water covered part of Ala. Norfolk, Va. had become an immense seaport. N.Y. had been destroyed either by war or an earthquake and was being rebuilt. Industries were scattered over the countryside. Most of the houses were of glass." [Edgar Cayce Reading 294-185] How about that, Nebraska as a coastal state.

Not many Readings are quite so specific in description, but there are a number of references to temperature changes, oceanic changes and earthquakes found in various Readings. The following excerpt specifically says that the earth would be changed again, implying of course, that it had changed before. "9. (Q) What is meant by "This body, not physically, will be present when the earth is changed again"?[Edgar Cayce Reading 288-29]

Some psychics see an earth change in our future. Some believe it will be disastrous , while others think it will be a time of cleansing with a new and better world on the other side of the change. Edgar Cayce believed that the thoughts and the intents of mankind will have an effect on the severity of this prophesied earth change.

Edgar Cayce did not see the coming changes as the end of times. Instead, he saw a new human race springing from the chaos of the dawning of a New Age. "26. (Q) Any other suggestions, counsel or advice on this project? (A) Do consider it seriously. It is the basis of any undertaking that is worth while. It may not only become a local but a state-wide and a national movement in ways and means as to insure the meeting of the problems when there is peace again in the land, and also insuring the better products for a better people. You expect a new root race. What are you doing to prepare for it? You must prepare food for their bodies as well as their minds and their spiritual development!" [Edgar Cayce Reading 470-35]

Another reference to the fifth root race follows and it includes the location of the buried chamber where one set of the records of Atlantis are supposed to be hidden. "When there was the entrance of Arart and Araaraart, they begin to build upon those mounds which were discovered through research. With the storehouse, or record house (where the records are still to be uncovered), there is a chamber or passage from the right forepaw to this entrance of the record chamber, or record tomb. This may not be entered without an understanding, for those that were left as guards may NOT be passed until after a period of their regeneration in the Mount, or the fifth root race begins."[Edgar Cayce Reading 5748-6]

Edgar Cayce began channeling information from the Akashic Records eighty to ninety years ago warning of earth changes. He predicted these changes would involve increased severity of weather, including temperature changes, earthquakes and increased sea levels.

Since that time many psychics and others sensitive to metaphysical forces have also predicted changes. There is certainly no consensus as to the severity of, nor the type of changes these will be, but there is a consensus that the earth will soon be assuming a different character. Combine this psychic information with the Mayan Calendar and the "calendar" passage in the great pyramid between the Grand Gallery and the King's Chamber and the future looks very interesting. Keep in mind that the "time" wall in the King's Chamber ends in 2038 with the introduction of a new race, so the world doesn't look to end in 2012.

I wanted to include this brief discussion on the subject of Edgar Cayce and Auras. The most unique and interesting aspect of the Edgar Cayce Aura connection comes from the fact that he actually authored a book on the topic. It is the only book he personally wrote during a lifetime of metaphysical studies and readings. Although it is more of an essay than a book, it was still published in book form after Edgar Cayce's death in 1945.

Thomas Sugrue, a Cayce family friend and the author of the authoritative biography of Edgar Cayce "There is a River", became the de facto editor of the book. It's genesis occurred during an Edgar Cayce visit to Sugrue's Florida home in July or August of 1944. It was at this time that Sugrue asked Edgar to write an instructive article on the subject of Auras.

Cayce complied with the request, but Thomas Sugrue did not receive the proofs of the essay until January 5, 1945. Edgar Cayce had passed away during the night of January 3, 1945. The essay was published as a booklet sometime later that same year.

During Edgar Cayce's childhood he saw colors around people and assumed everyone else could as well. As he matured Cayce discovered this ability was definitely not possessed by everyone.

All through Cayce's life he studied and revised his thoughts on the meanings of colors, or lack of color in a person's Aura. Some of his observations and interpretations are to be found in his booklet. This book is found in the Aura book section of this lens. It is inexpensive and well worth a "read" for anyone interested in the subject of Auras.

Below are some excerpts from a few of the many Edgar Cayce Readings where Auras are mentioned.

17. (Q) What is the meaning of my aura, blue to purple? [See 275-11 Reports.]
(A) As the color or tone indicates, the blue in purity and the purple towards spirituality.

18. (Q) What are the best colors for me to wear?
(A) Blue, and those tones or shades that go toward the deep or royal purple, and the modes that are in between. Not decided figures or stripes are well for body.

19. (Q) What colors should surround me?
(A) Those of gold and blue are healing colors, as is purple, for the body. [Edgar Cayce Reading 275-31]

14. (Q) Regarding mental and spiritual: What is my aura?
(A) Blue, turning to shades of green - which shows a high mental, tending towards spiritual, development. [Edgar Cayce Reading 276-4]

Notice the reference to chakras in the Reading below.

9. (Q) Please discuss more fully the relation of colors to the seven major glandular centers. Do the colors vary for each center with different individuals, or may definite colors be associated with each center?
(A) Both. For to each - remember, to study each of these in the light not only of what has just been given but that as is a practical experience in the material world; as is known, vibration is the essence or the basis of color. As color and vibration then become to the consciousness along the various centers in an individual's experience in meditation made aware, they come to mean definite experiences. Just as anger is red, or as something depressing is blue; yet in their shades, their tones, their activities, to each they begin with the use of same in the experience to mean those various stages. For instance, while red is anger, rosy to most souls means delight and joy - yet to others, as they are formed in their transmission from center to center, come to mean or to express what MANNER of joy; whether that as would arise from a material, a mental or a spiritual experience. Just as may be seen in the common interpretation of white, but with all manner of rays from same begins or comes to mean that above the aura of all in its vibration from the body and from the activity of the mental experience when the various centers are vibrating to color. 80. (Q) What is her aura?
(A) Purple and blue, as has been indicated. Blue is the love influence, purple the spiritual development.

81. (Q) What color, or colors, should she wear or have around her?
(A) Those that are decided in their hue; those that blend to violet and to blue - these are the better. Never the drab, never too much of the red-red, but those of the more delicate hues - but decided in hue. [Edgar Cayce Reading 1401-1]

As for colors pertaining to life itself - as the self or the entity set in motion, STUDY auras and aid OTHERS in knowing what they mean! There are those that interpret same in the form of spiritism. There are those that interpret same in the form of vibration. They are ALL of these and more, as the entity KNOWS and may EXPERIENCE! [Edgar Cayce Reading 1436-2]

The Edgar Cayce remedies as regards to health and healing were the most sought after of the Cayce Readings. Between 9,500 and 10,000 of his 14,000 plus Readings concerned health and healing.

Cayce is considered by many to be the father of modern Holistic Healing and Holistic Medicine. He incorporated a mind, body, spirit approach in his health recommendations. Although Edgar Cayce had no medical training, thousands of people found relief and healing by following the treatments outlined in his Readings. Many more thousands and tens of thousands have benefitted from following the Edgar Cayce remedies in the sixty-five years since his death.

Although there were hints of Cayce's psychic abilities in relation to healing early in his life, it wasn't until he reached age twenty-four that they became apparent.

During an attempt by Cayce to launch a career as a traveling salesman he was smitten with severe laryngitis. After unsuccessfully consulting several doctors over a period of months, he decided to try hypnosis as a last resort. Oddly enough, his speech while under the effects of hypnosis was normal. Even odder, during the hypnotic session, Cayce gave a regimen of treatments that would cure his laryngitis.

The suggested Cayce healing remedy was successful. After this remarkable Edgar Cayce cure became known, people began to request his help with their ailments. Although he only gave an occasional Reading over the next several years, the die was cast that would make Edgar Cayce the best known psychic in America and eventually one of the two or three best known psychics in history.

Edgar Cayce's health ideas included a body, mind, spirit or holistic approach. He gave recommendations for a well balanced diet, emotional balance, exercise and relaxation, meditation and proper elimination.

Here are some examples of the all inclusive approach taken in the Edgar Cayce health Readings.

"It would be well for the body to so conduct, so arrange the activities of the body as to be better BALANCED as to the mental and the physical attributes of the body. Take more outdoor exercise, that - that brings into play the muscular forces of the body. It isn't that the mental should be numbed, or should be cut off from their operations or their activities - but make for a more evenly, more perfectly balanced body-physical AND mental. Know how to apply the rules of METAPHYSICAL operations to a corncob, or to a fence rail, or to a hammer, an axe, a walking cane, as well as the THEORIES of this, that, or other mind, that in nine cases in ten is seen to become a storehouse for mental deficiencies of PHYSICAL energies!..." [Edgar Cayce Reading 341-31]

"7. Then, be a well-ROUNDED body. Take specific, DEFINITE exercises morning and evening. Make the body PHYSICALLY, as well as mentally, tired and those things that have been producing those conditions where sleep, inertia, poisons in system from non-eliminations, will disappear - and so will the body respond to the diets." [Edgar Cayce Reading 341-31]

"12. Just as the impressions to the whole of the organism, for each cell of the blood stream, each corpuscle, is a whole UNIVERSE in itself. Do not eat like a canary and expect to do MANUAL labor. Do not eat like a rail splitter and expect to do the work of a mind reader or a university professor, but be CONSISTENT with those things that make for - even as the UNIVERSE is builded. In the layers of one is dependent upon the activity of another." [Edgar Cayce Reading 341-31]

Edgar Cayce believed and his Readings confirm that everyone comes to earth with a Life Purpose. We have each chosen certain areas of life in which to address issues from our Karma. Some people may have only one soul purpose, others more than one.

The great difficulty can be finding your Life Purpose, although the greatest obstacle for most souls is realizing they even have a purpose in life. 9. The spirit is willing. Will ye strengthen thy soul purpose? Will ye attune thy mind? Will ye act in thy body in such measures and manners that ye may know? [Edgar Cayce Reading 3902-2]

Because Life Purpose and Karma are intertwined, your present life's task may be simple or very complex. Not every Life Purpose is grand and glorious, many and probably most, deal with more mundane issues. One person's Life Purpose might concern personal relationships, patience or dealing with anger, or greed, or arrogance and so on, and so on. Other entities might find it necessary to deal with soul purposes that had to do with past life murder, enslavement, or any number of more severe karmic issues. The following Reading tells us that we all must give an account of the deeds we have done.

If you have any interest in the study and exploration of the fascinating world of Edgar Cayce's Readings, a membership in ARE is worth consideration.

A membership gives you access to all 14,000 plus surviving Cayce Readings. Research of the Readings is supported by a relatively good search function. There is a short learning curve and although I am sure I still have more to learn, I think it really works quite well.

I have been a member for less than two years as of this writing, but feel my membership is well worth the present membership fee.

The organization has a perceived history of bias towards non-Christians. I am not sure that is entirely true, but I have observed in my time as a member a shift toward a more general spiritual approach by this institution of the Edgar Cayce legacy.

Edgar Cayce's personal philosophy does not seem to me to have been exclusively Christian by any means. Cayce's philosophy was really more of a "Christianized" version of a number of ancient religions, combined with influence from his own Readings. So, whether you are a Christian, non-Christian, Agnostic or whatever, I suspect you can find something within the content of ARE to interest and fascinate your mind.

As an ARE member you will receive four issues of Venture Inward magazine per year, as well as access to its archives. Venture Inward's articles are on subjects as varied as "The Mysterious Lymphatic System" to an article on the past life relationships of Edgar Cayce and his longtime secretary Gladys Davis Turner. Not to spoil the plot, but I said past life relationships, their recent working relationship was platonic. Edgar Cayce was in all ways a decent and honorable man, but the afore mentioned article makes for a very interesting read.

I have attended two regional ARE week-end conferences held in my local Tennessee area. Both were attended by an interesting cross section of people from Tennessee and a number of surrounding states. At these events you realize the potential ARE has to take spirituality to the free world. I think the organization is beginning to accept its unique place in history and the world's society by recognizing and addressing this enormous, but worthy goal.

Edgar Cayce founded The Association for Research and Enlightenment in 1931. He envisioned an organization that would provide research and legitimacy for such "occult" subjects as; Reincarnation, Dreams, Holistic Health, Ancient Civilizations and Ancient Knowledge, Astrology, Karma, Spiritual Living Life Purpose and the coming evolution of the human species. I am sure there are other subjects of which I am unaware or have forgotten for the moment.

As we approach the Grand Galactic Alignment on December 21, 2012, we need just such an established organization to lend credibility to some of the issues facing us so quickly after entering the turbulent Twenty-First Century.

I do not claim to have written well, nor have I presented even a fraction of the information available from Edgar Cayce or the Organization he founded, but I hope I have given you something to think about.

Edgar Cayce was a remarkable and yet humble man. His legacy is found in his Readings and in the ARE.

Consider a membership. The study and growth opportunities a membership will make available to you are worthwhile, even if you don't agree with ARE's stand on every issue. I have found I disagree with some details, but I am certainly a supporter of their concept and their goals.

At one time my family and I felt very isolated in our beliefs. We had various experiences that forced us away from the traditional, strict religious views in which we had been reared. ARE gave us a sense of community even though our actual personal contact with other members has been limited. Within ARE it is OK to be a little, or maybe a lot, weird.

Again, I suggest investigation. You may find something you really like.
