Edible Halloween Spiders

For Halloween This Year, I'm Going To .... Eat A Spider

What would Halloween be without the great Halloween treats and snacks for your family and party guests, wouldn't they be surprised by some creepy edible spiders.

Think of the spider, eight legs, eight eyes, dining on their prey stuck in their web.

Arachnophobia is alive and well in many people and it's pay back time with these easy and fast edible, candy spiders.....

Royal Icing Edible Sjpiders

These edible Halloween Spiders are made with only 2 ingredients, Royal Icing and Black Gel food coloring.

Since Royal Icing hardens very quickly, the mixture needs to be used right away. Since these spiders require a small amount of Royal Icing a full batch will go a very long way, you may want to consider cutting the recipe in half. These edible spiders are very fragile so be particularly careful lifting them from the wax paper.

Mix up the Royal Icing per the recipe, and add black gel food coloring to get the mixture as dark as you can. It will dry a darker color than your wet icing looks.

Use a decorating tube to pipe the icing into spider shapes on waxed paper as shown in the photo

Tips: If your hand gets sore from piping spiders, put a toothpick in the piping tube nozzle so the icing doesn't dry and plug the nozzle. Taking breaks is good since the warmer the icing gets, the bigger and sloppier your lines are, so let the icing bag rest back to room temperature, then keep piping away until you get sick of spiders!

There was an exotic food festival in town a few years back. I remember they had some kind of crispy spider dish on the menu there which still sends shivers up my spine to think about. I'd rather try your candy ones.

Too cool. My kids would love these. I would love to show them how we had to eat spiders in our survival training. The real deal, ugh.
