Computers are used for everything.... including education

These days computers are used for just about anything.  They are becoming more and more a part of the school curriculum for our country.

The problem is that even though more and more schools are investing in technology teachers don't really have the time or knowledge about how they can be used best.

Teachers already have so many lesson plans and materials that are designed for their grade level that it can be hard to incorporate new techniques into the classroom.  The truth is that computers are making a difference in how kids learn both at home and in school.  We have come a long way from the time when personal computers were just for word processing.

Until recently computers had limited value for teaching kids about reading or writing but were still very limited.  That has really changed with the introduction of enhanced graphics and programs that are becoming increasingly sophisticated.  These days software programs are very interactive and allow educators to really engage a child.

There are a host of age specific learning programs for children.  At first many parents were worried that so called educational programs where just another version of the video game.  Now many parents have seen the results and are very happy to have their children playing these games.

Earlier Versions

Many of the early versions of educational software programs focused mainly on learning the alphabet and numbers.  Learn to read software programs focused on simple stories that many children will already familiar with such as Cinderella and Dr. Seuss books.

Newer Programs

You also have some newer programs like the Skip and Daisy learning to read dvd. They have
some really interesting ideas on teaching children how to read.
