The Original Rollercoaster by Anatex

This Parents' Choice Classic Award Winner is that colossal maze of wood, beads, and wire often seen at the doctor's office. Beautifully crafted with a 12-by-15-inch solid wood base, thick sturdy wire, and wood beads, this winding wonder keeps little hands and minds busy for hours. The structure consists of five intertwined wires, securely attached at the wood base, adorned with free sliding beads of varied color, shape, size, and pattern. One wire reaches 21 inches at its peak, another makes a complete 360 degree loop. As the child slides beads across the tangle of wires, fine motor coordination and critical thinking skills are developed, as well as an understanding of both spatial relations and depth perception. The Original Rollercoaster washes easily with a damp sponge and squares up neatly in a corner for storage

Growing up, we didn't have a lot of toys like the kids have today. My favorite Christmas present was a science set with microscope, some rocks and some supposed liquid products. Luckily I didn't set house on fire.

I'm with dacde above, when I found Starfall on the internet, I was in heaven! My son has loved this free site for years. His 2 favorite non computerized toys are a wodden jigsaw puzzle of the United States, and a Doodlepro by Fischer Price-the plain one, not the fancy light up ones!
By the way, thanks for blessing my Castles of England lens :)

I'm particularly fond of educatonal software as a toy for children. My children started using the computer independently as young as 4. What they have learned from educational games has been immeasurable. It does take some effort to make sure you are choosing the best programs, but it's well worth it in the end.
