About Marijuana and Adolescents

Research shows that marijuana has grave effects on the health of teenagers. For instance, they are at risk for developing brain damage since their brains are still undergoing some developments. Marijuana use has also been proven to cause problems related to speech since prolonged use affects the parts of the brain used for language. Moreover, individuals who are genetically susceptible to schizophrenia will acquire the disease sooner if they use marijuana. All these cannot contest the fact that many aspects of a person's life, including his finances and social relations, can be ruined by marijuana. It is for this reason that I made this lens. Feel free to tell others about the effects of marijuana use so that many current and potential marijuana users may be discouraged from using the substance.

Marijuana and Adolescents

Marijuana causes schizophrenia to develop faster in adolescents already at risk for genetically developing schizophrenia. More so, repeated marijuana use affects brain sections related to language. These symptoms will worsen if the marijuana user does not undergo drug rehabilitation.

These were proven by scanning brains of 114 test subjects, with 26 of them being diagnosed schizophrenics. There were microscopic abnormalities within the brain noted in those who were marijuana users. Moreover, while comparing the brain scans, there was a constant presence of damage in the fibers connecting the brain's left frontal and left temporal lobe. Because of marijuana's effects on the brain, it makes schizophrenia develop faster in individuals genetically inclined to acquire it. Adolescents are more prone to brain damage related to drugs because adolescent brains are still developing. This is why when teenage children are caught abusing drugs, it is advised to send them immediately to drug rehab centers.

Like any illicit substance, marijuana runs the potential of ruining many aspects of a person's life. Repeated marijuana use also makes one lose control of finances since constant use can drain the wallet. Marijuana also makes one's life stagnant since problems that could have been solved through definite action are instead evaded by relying on the "high" brought about by marijuana. Many social relationships of an individual may also be ruined by excessive marijuana use. Aside from containing more carcinogens than cigarettes, marijuana use also poses a lot more health risks, many of which may still be undiscovered.
