The democratic parenting style is an ideal one. It is very important that the strategies used are not violent or abusive in anyway. Your child will not learn anything from being hit or yelled at. You need to show them the consequence of the action. For instance to yell at your child to stop whining now will not do you or your child any good. You might get lucky for the first couple of times but she will do it again because she has not been told and explained that it's not a good behavior and the consequences of not stopping.

The key to success in positive parenting is the communication. You have to be positive, consistent, and specific. You need to show the love and respect for your child no matter if she is doing something wrong. Make it clear that you love her but not her bad behavior. You have to learn how to use your tone, how to control your frustration and so on.
