Tracking eHow Earnings and Articles
I started writing articles for Ehow in December, 2008. I've seen some income, which very nearly floored me. I might have actually fallen over if I had not been dancing so enthusiastically when the money actually hit my Paypal account and subsequently my bank account. I like sharing my knowledge and to make money for it is more than I could hope for.Ehows biggest problem is the payment algorithm is a big mystery. They tell you there are a lot of factors to earning, while most Ehowers speculate that it is really just ad clicks. I prescribe to this theory, because I can't see them paying you only for quality if no one is clicking the ads to make thm money, and I can't see them denying you money for ad clicks just because they see your article as non-quality.
It's understandable to have this algorithm a mystery partially because if the public were to know it there would be some bad seeds who ruined it for the rest of us by cheating, but mostly, because we are paid through Google Adsense who also keeps their algorithm secret and ever-changing. Can't let us know the math to something you don't know the math to.
I'm going to chart my weekly earnings and list some of my favorite articles in a neatly categorized way.

eHow Glitches and Problems
The sky is falling, the sky is falling!
Articles are being deleted without warning. You know what, this is NOT a glitch. This is a new cloning seeking software. It seems to be accurate in my opinion, as the people complaining their articles were deleted without cause actually HAD cloned articles prior to this. Articles that are subpar or otherwise violate ehow guidelines are also being deleted. Notification should be sent out, please check your spam box to be sure.
The Pending articles. Not a glitch! They are now reviewing random samplings of all new articles. It can take a few days to get reviewed. They don't review over the weekend, of course.
Abuse of the rating system. The rating system has long been abused by those who say, scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. It was also abused by those who wanted to trash the articles of others and get their own higher in the internal ehow search engine(back when the search engine arranged articles by rating).
Publishing glitches. We do not seem to be able to publish articles without a great deal of trouble. The team is aware of this and is, no doubt, working their butts off to try an get it fixed. This is going on almost a month now and the Community Manager and Techs just keep collecting more information from us. This must be a pretty hardcore malfunction somewhere.
Title limitations are being applied to articles now. Old articles are being grandfathered in and not being punished for same titles, but you will no longer be able to publish under the exact same title as someone else. This is NOT a glitch.
Incompatible with IE8 Really? What's new? eHow has never really been friendly with IE, but now that they've upgraded eHow is even FURTHER behind the times. Firefox and Google Chrome seem to always be safe bets. Or just read through the small glitches with IE8. Some have had their PM boxes stop working in IE8.

Earnings
I'm no longer going to do a weekly breakdown by category. There are a lot of really good people on eHow, but there are an equal number of bad people. Apparently some were visiting my site and watching not just the category for good ideas, but were attempting to recreate the articles they thought were making the most money. Imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery in this case.Earnings for January 2009- $15.45

Recommendations
That being said, I have 62 recommendations. I think that if a visitor were to look at that and then look at another person who has only 2 recommendations and yet has been there as long as me, they may backtrack to my profile, because it appears as though I have more knowledge or at least more people found me useful.
The recommendation system at eHow is sorely abused with people just recommending in the hopes you will recommend them. I, personally, will only recommend someone if I genuinely LIKE their articles, I hope more people start doing the same.

Mary Kay Articles
I used to work for Mary Kay. I had both good and bad experiences and I like to think I kept my articles unbiased and simply informative, despite my bitter ending with the company.- Deciding to Work for Mary Kay
- Your Mary Kay consultant claims she loves her job and she does genuinely seem happy. She's encouraging you to join and you're thinking about it. Jumping into your own business is not something that should be taken lightly. Know everything here before you join!
- Return Mary Kay Inventory
- Got more than just the starter kit? Feel like you're done with this company? Losing profit? Getting behind in your other job or losing time with your kids and husband? Follow these steps to get most of your money back.
- Recruit Mary Kay Consultants
- Build your team fast with these tips.
- Host a Great Mary Kay Party
- All consultants host parties, so how do you make yourself stand out as the best?
Pet Rat Articles

I own two rats: Bumble Bee and Honey Comb. I've learned a lot from these two babies and I like sharing my knowledge with new rat owners, or those thinking about becoming rat owners.
- Bond with your rat
- When you get a rat from a pet store, they are usually only partially socialized. They don't hate people enough to try to bite them, but they really just don't like people yet. You need to warm up to your rat and give it time to warm up to you.
- Rat Harness
- This is an effective harness for any pet but is especially good for smaller animals. It's very cheap to make and if you can tie a knot you can make this harness.
- Clipping Rat Nails
- Rat nails can get long and that can be very unpleasant when they are running about on your arms, shoulders and feet. Give those nails a good and safe clip with these tips.
- Treating Pet Rat Fleas and Lice with Ivermectin
- Ivermectin is usually marketed for parasitic treatment in horses and bovine. As such, the tubes it comes in are far too large for even a whole house full of pet rats. But you can still use it to treat lice and flea infestations.
Fish Articles
- Breeding Guppies
- Guppies breed like... well guppies(I was going to say rabbits, but rabbits ain't got nothin' on guppies). They don't require a lot to breed with one another, but there are some things you can do to get the best guppy stock.
- Fish parasites and treatment
- Treating a sick fish can be confusing and worrisome. Are you doing it right? Did you even diagnose your fish right? Did you choose the right medication? This article covers some of the most seen fish parasites and how to treat them.
Wicca Articles
- Begin Developing Telekinesis
- Moving a cup with your mind for beginners.
- Wiccan Protection Spell
- Protect your loved ones from harm or from themselves. Be mindful of the three fold rule and do no harm yourself.
Video Game Articles
I play a lot of video games. I learn a lot of tricks to computer video games especially, because I always seem to have some kind of bug. I blame this on Vista.- Wii Fit Plan
- I love my Wii Fit. I don't think I've lost any weight with it despite my near religious use of it, but it is a lot of fun and it could prove to be a great weight loss tool to many otherwise inactive people.
- Video Game Careers
- The best ways to get into a video game career. Those gaming skills you've been working on since you were a teenager? Put them to use now.
Body Modification Articles
I'm big into body modification, not to the extent that some are into it, but I love all forms of it, whether it's on my own body or not. As such, I have done extensive research and have had a lot of experiences of my own that can help others heal better, faster and more permanently.- Prepare for a Piercing
- Getting ready for a piercing can be as important, if not more important than deciding where to get the piercing. Be ready. The more prepared your body is the better and faster you will heal.
- Regular Salt Soak
- Sea salt soaks can help keep your piercing healthy and healing beautifully. It takes just five minutes. Give it a try.
- Alternate Salt Soak
- If you've gotten a corset piercing or another unreachable piercing, or even an injury you can't quite reach, you'll want to know how to do a proper salt soak on the area.
- Vinegar Treatment for Infection
- Infected piercings are painful and if you don't take care of it fast enough it can escalate into something worse.
- EA Sports Active and Body Piercings
- I discovered, in a very painful way, that EA Sports Active can be a hazard to body piercings, especially facial ones. Find out how to protect them.
- Cure Itchy Body Piercings
- Itchy body piercings can be a horrible experience. Give this technique a try to make them stop.
- Oil Pulling to Moisturize Facial Piercings
- Facial piercings can get itchy and dry. Normal remedies don't work on them since they are always visible and open to the air. This all natural technique though is very healthy, not only for your piercings, but your entire body.
- Remove Rejecting Surface Piercings
- Surface piercings can be painful to have put in. But they don't have to be painful to remove if you know the right technique.
- Treat Body Piercing Infection and Rejection
- Body piercing infection and rejection are usually the result of the wearer's negligence or simply taking bad advice. This includes things to NEVER do as well as what to do.
Money Saving Articles
- Manufacturer's coupons
- Better than the coupons you clip and worth more than the paper they are printed on, manufacturer's coupons often give you an item for completely free. Follow these simple steps to get your amazing coupons in the mai.
- Debt Relief
- Get debt relief. Quick and easy.
Legal Articles
- Make a Lease Agreement
- Lease agreements can be expensive if you aren't sure how to write one. Sure, you could buy one, but how closely will it fit your needs? You could have a lawyer draft you one and it will be perfect, but if you're not really going into the rental profession that can be a waste of money you will never recoup. This is a simple, easy to make and understand way to make a lease.
- Lease Agreement for Roommates
- Don't just stop at a normal lease agreement with your landlord. If you're living with a buddy nothing can ruin that friendship faster than not planning for the worst.
- Stop Copyright Infringement with a Cease and Desist Letter
- There is an example letter throughout the steps, but it is best to personalize the letter a little. Even if you just use this form no company and no person can ignore it though; a cease and desist is no less relevent just because you didn't personalize it.
- Make a Printable Car Bill of Sale
- Selling or buying a car can be a very tricky thing. There's finding the right car, making sure everything works, working out a suitable price and a variety of other things. One thing you shouldn't have to stress about is a car bill of sale.
- Letter to Withhold Rent
- When your landlord isn't keeping up with their contractual obligations you have to show that you mean business by withholding partial rent. You have to do it properly though or you could be evicted.
- Letter of Defense against Eviction from Withholding Rent
- If you followed proper procedure to withholding rent and your landlord still tries to serve you an eviction notice, send this letter.
College Articles
- Filling out your FAFSA
- Most high schoolers know they need to fill out their FAFSA(though there is a surprisingly large number who don't even know what that is, to which I say, shame on you guidance counselors), but do students or parents know how to get the most out of it?
- Cheapest College Text Books
- College books can cost an arm and a leg(if only the bookstore really took appendages as payment), but there are places to get a better price. Try them before you go to the campus bookstore.

- Free Printable Stencils
- Make your own stencils right from the comfort of your computer screen.
- Remove Cigarette Smoke Smell
- This is really good for small items like books and children's toys, but the ionizer steps can be used on larger pieces of furniture.

- If you pull too tight at the final step where you form the bunny ears then it will hold the knot stationary. Just give it a light tug and it should leave the knot loose enough to slide up and down.

- I'm lost as to how you got the knot to slide up and down. I've been trying for about two days now?
Did you put loop 2&3 through loop one? I remember i could make the knot slide before, but now i can't.
Any other way to explain it or make a short clip on how you made the harness? [perhaps i unconsciously miss a step?]
