The United States Tour

(Photo credit: Pam Irie) ***UPDATE: May 2011. With the end of the eHow WCP and the recent demise of eHow writer "connections" via the old publishing interface, I felt compelled to look back at this lens and remember it with fondness. I couldn't begin to log all of the visits, photos and stories the members who hosted Dolly, have shared. For those still interested, there are lenses all over Squidoo that still document Dolly's travels. In fact, a google search will lead to lenses, blogs and Facebook posts. Dolly lives on in the hearts of many. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** UPDATE: Dolly is on the home stretch as of today, September 25th, 2010. She is at her next to last destination with one final stop being at eHow Headquarters in California to see Rich Noguchi, Richard Rosenblatt and crew. After her visit at eHow, Dolly will return to her native Hawaii with lots of tales to tell and souvenirs from all of her visits across the United States !

Aloha everyone! My name is Dolly and I'm leaving today, Friday the 13th of November, 2009, on a great adventure which I hope to share with all of you here through my buddy, Shirley, who was a writer for eHow.com.  My creator, and mom, is Veryirie - also a former writer from eHow.

Since I was born last year in Hawaii, I have met many good people on the eHow forums. I'm lucky because so many of you have been gracious enough to offer me a place to stay while I take a whirlwind tour of the U.S. mainland. I'm looking forward to meeting the real person behind the keyboard and sampling a bit of your lives too. I hope to do all kinds of exciting things and see new sights through your eyes.

As eHow's self-appointed GoodWill Ambassador, I want to say thank you in advance for your hospitality and generous spirit. I have every confidence this Aloha Tour if nothing else, will serve as a reminder that though we all lead different lives, our contributions as members of the eHow community of writers work together to make this world a better place.

With Love and Aloha,
Dolly

Where Dolly's headed

Coast to Coast

Dolly's adventure begins with traveling from her home in Hawaii to her first destination: the furthest most point which is Maine. From there, she'll head down the east coast, zigzag through the mid states and finish out her tour on the west coast in California !

Here's Where Dolly's Headed Next Page 2

UPDATE: May 2011: Please note that all eHow related links on this lens are now defunct. Many writer links are to the former eHow profiles but several link to individual blogs. I'm simply keeping up the dead links to have a "trail" of the former eHow members who were involved in the Tour.

Dolly Visits Maine

Hello Dolly

Ok, so Dolly wasn't in Maine to bear witness to the photo, but to be honest, she appears to be one of those tropical lightweights anyway. Early November is not nearly the best time of year to be a visitor in Maine which has 4 distinct seasons (barring black fly and pothole seasons which would make six), The state can be a delight in spring with new growth, a pleasure in summer with the oceans, lakes, and woodlands, a jewel in fall with the crisp cool weather and vivid foliage, and awe inspiring in the winter with the sparkle of snow.

Had Miss Dolly been here sooner, she would have had an opportunity to visit Cadillac Mtn in Acadia National Park..... perhaps at dawn when the sun is seen rising before anywhere else in the US between Oct 7 and Mar 6. Thunder Hole is a spectacular phenomenon as well and attracts tourists from all over the world. A rain jacket for Dolly would be a good plan.

The north woods of Maine with it's abundance of wildlife is always a nice detour away from the rocky Atlantic coast. A word of warning that most of Maine's tourists need: don't try to pet the moose ! They may look docile with their big brown eyes, but don't let them fool you. They are not a plush stuffed pet you buy in the gift shop.

Dolly just left for California this morning (Sat. 10/2/2010). She was such a pleasant house guest, always considerate of her host, always picked up after herself! I made her a special pink afghan, and she is carrying it with her, just in case there are cool nights before she gets back to Hawaii.

I'm hosting Dolly in the first part of September. Unfortunately, she will probably be here longer than 7 days (Sorry), due to the fact that she was delivered while I was out of town. However, we're making up for lost time...BTW Shirley, she loves margaritas and playing the slots. I have put a couple photos (have many more) on the forum on eHow. She is a dynamite gal, and such a flirt!

Sorry I'm late posting here about Dolly's visit, folks. She arrived in her cardboard limo by way of Gracie who had her the week before me in May. The weather was perfect on the first day of her visit and we got some nice pics. The rest of the week was rainy and cold so we waited until the end of the week for any more sight seeing. Dolly was a good girl and got along good with Layla, my little dog.
She wants all of us to come and visit Hawaii when she gets home if it's okay with her mom. She thought it would be fun to have a luau and good music and food. She knows how to do table dancing too, so I'm sure certain eHow peeps would feel right at home. :P

Well, she is on her way again and soon will be back home with our wonderful Veryirie, the best creator on eHow. Aloha Dolly!

I so enjoyed hosting ehow Dolly for a week in February. And yes, Dolly did bring the snow with her; it began just as I unpacked her from her wrappings! Even so, Dolly and I toured the town of Winston-Salem, visiting Wait Chapel at Wake Forest University, the historic Moravian settlements of Old Salem and Bethabara, as well as Reynolda House Museum of American Art. Dolly was a wonderful guest and really became a part of my household, joining us on outings, for meals and recreation. My teenage children now think their mother is totally crazy!
Bon Voyage, Dolly!

We all fell in love with Dolly. Now she's in Kentucky and having a ball. We enjoyed showing Dolly all the flowers that bloom this time of the year. Dolly got to meet the people of the area and see how they make a living off the sea. She especially enjoyed watching all the sea creatures at the sea lab.

She was very excited when she found out about Miss A birthday. She loved walking on the beach to gather the seashells for Miss A present. When I went into town everyone asked "Where Dolly"
So K give her an extra hug tonight for everyone in Alabama.

We're into the second day of Dolly's visit in Central Florida. I think I hurt her feelings today, but she seems to be over that this evening. I'll post photos and details each day on www.squidoo.com/ehow_dolly_florida.

Dolly arrived at a rough time in my daughter's life, and pitched right in to make things better! She is a real ray of sunshine! Although it did snow one night while Dolly was here, it was all gone by the next afternoon, so I'd say the "snow curse" is lifted -- at least as far as Dolly is concerned. We had a great time, playing dress ups, going to dentists, doctors, and shopping, and to the Special Olympics. Check out the pictures at http://eHowDolly.blogspot.com

Your update got my attention and I enjoyed reading this lens, again. (When I first read it, I didn't even really know what "a squidoo" was!) We are enjoying Dolly's calendar every day. (We're reliving New Jersey this month.) I miss our girl and it's fun to see her lenses again!
