Ehrman Tapestry Kits are Gorgeous Needlepoint Kits

Elegant and Easy Ehrman Tapestry Needlepoint

Needlepoint is back in fashion!

Ehrman Tapestry is a United Kingdom company known for their needlepoint kits of exceptional quality. They attract excellent designers and so Ehrman needlepoint kits are very beautiful and can command a higher price than other needlepoint kits.

Most Ehrman needlepoint kits are worked almost exclusively in the continental stitch. With this one simple stitch to master and no charts, you don't have to be an expert to work one. Relax! Enjoy working on your needlepoint in front of the television or take it along when traveling.

Some of their needlepoint kits are worked in longstitch. They can also be worked in half-cross stitch, tent stitch or basketweave stitch.

There are a variety of kits offered:
        * cushions
        * pillows
        * hangings & panels
        * rugs
        * freestyle embroidery (uses a chart, simple stitches & cotton)

And of course the designs are gorgeous - rich colors of blooming flowers, butterflies, roosters, birds, cats and other animals, and
abstract designs.

So if you haven't heard of Ehrman Tapestry before, or if you know of the quality and beauty of their needlepoint kits but haven't yet worked one, I hope you will consider giving them a try. Their kits are not found in many craft stores in the U.S., so scroll down to order them from here if you can't find them in your area.

What You'll Get With Ehrman Needlepoint Kits

Kaffe Fassett is the principal designer of Ehrman Tapestry

Ehrman NeedlepointEhrman needlepoint kits come complete with a printed color canvas, instructions and wool. Kits are printed on canvas with 7 to 12 holes to the inch. (Fewer holes to the inch will mean that the amount of yarn used on the needle is doubled.)

The yarns are 100% pure new wool, most of which is produced by Ehrman Tapestries. There are over 350 shades. Extra yarn can be ordered if you run out of any of the colors.

The canvases are 100% cotton, printed in Lancashire, England.

The designs, by nearly ten extremely talented artists, are commisisoned by Ehrman Tapestry. Kaffe Fassett is Ehrman Tapestry's principal designer, widely regarded as one of the world's foremost textile designers in fabric, knitting, needlepoint, patchwork and mosaic. He grew up in Big Sur, California in a log cabin his parents bought from Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth. He has lived and worked in London for over 30 years.

Fassett sometimes designs his needlepoint patterns with fewer holes to the inch (7 or 8 holes) which has the advantage of speed. For this wider gauge canvas, you thread your needle with two strands of wool instead of one. This allows you to cover the canvas more quickly.

All Ehrman Tapestry designs are truly splendid.

Continental Stitch - How It's Done

A Simple Stitch Used For Ehrman Tapestry

How do you work the continental stitch?

The continental stitch is similar to the half cross stitch and the tent stitch. It is simply a small stitch made between one canvas hole and the hole diagonally adjacent.

All rows are worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas in the same direction. If you turn your work around to work back across a row, make sure your stitches all still lie in the same direction.

On the back or "wrong" side of the canvas you will see a stitch appear diagonally across two threads. This method uses more yarn than the half cross stitch or the tent stitch but is more creates a thick padded back.

Thread your needle and make a knot at the end of your yarn. Starting a few canvas holes ahead of where your first stitch will be, take the needle down through the canvas to the wrong side. Bring the needle back up where your first stitch will begin and start stitching toward the knot. When you reach the knot, cut it off.

Continue with the needle, always stitching in the same direction, That's how simple the continental stitch is!

When you finish a length of yarn, push the needle through two or three stitches on the back of the canvas and trim the yarn.
