This Lens is focussed on one of the most famous Steel Building of the world: the Eiffel Tower, constructed at the anniversary of the French Revolution in 1889 by a genial Engineer: Gustave Eiffel

The Master Piece from Gustave Eiffel

Despite of its technical complexity, the Eiffel tower was built in only three years, between 1887 and 1889 on the context of the World Exposition on 1889 (100 years after the French Revolution)

On that time the Parisiennes (inhabitant of Paris) opposed serious resitance to the construction of this remarkable monument. In their oppinion it would not fit to the harmonic landscape of Paris.

One of the problems Eiffel had to solve was the influence of Wind on the tallest building of Paris. The Shape of the Tower is optimized to have a maximum of resitance against the wind. Eiffel applied a mathematical calculation. The exact algorithm is unknown, several theories have tried to figured out how exactly this was carried out.

The Eiffel Tower was the tallest building on the world till 1930, where the Chrysler Building in New York was completed.

Millions of visitors have visited this fantastic construction of pure steel.
