Here are my top 10 eighties movies

I grew up as a kid in the eighties and there were a lot of great films in that decade, especially for the younger audience such as The Goonies, Back to the Future and The Lost Boys. Here are the top 10 eighties movies in my opinion.

No. 1

The Goonies(1985)

This film is set in Astoria,Oregon and focuses on a young group of teenagers whos parents are facing foreclosure on their homes from the Astoria Country Club. While in his attic, young goonie Mikey Walsh finds a treasure map and believes he can solve all their problems. He eventually persuades his fellow goonies and they set off on their adventure.
Starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman and John Matuzak as "Sloth".

"Hey you guys!". Always wished i lived in America as a kid after watching this film,the west of Ireland was just not the same.

Back to the Future(1985)

Marty McFly is a teenager living in Hill Valley, California who befriends an eccentric scientist,Dr. Emmet Brown (Doc). When Doc arranges with Marty a showing of his new invention, a time machine, things go horribly wrong with the Doc getting killed and Marty being sent back to 1955. In 1955, Marty encounters his parents,and ends up changing history by saving his father from being hit by his grandfathers car,thus getting his mothers affection which was destined for his father. Marty now has to rectify this and get back to 1985. Can he do it with the help of the thirty years younger Doc?

The Lost Boys(1987)

Sam and Micheal move with their mother to Santa Carla,a Californian costal town and move in with their grandfather,a strange and cranky, taxidermist. Santa Carla they find has a high rate of gang crime and an even higher amount of missing persons. While checking out the town,Sam visits a comic book store and meets two brothers Edgar and Alan Frog who try to push Vampire comics on him sayin "it may one day save your life".
Sam starts becoming suspicous of Micheal his older brother after he starts hanging around with a gang and gets tricked into drinking vampire blood. He soon learns that Micheal is a half vampire,after he is attacked by him and finds him floating outside his bedroom window, and contacts the Frog brothers. Chaos ensues as they try to find and kill the head vampire to cure Micheal and save the town.

"Death by stereo". Quality horror comedy starring Corey Haim,Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland and Corey Feldman.

E.T, the Extra Teresstrial(1982)

E.T tells the story of a young boy,Elliot, who finds and befriends a stranded alien. Elliots brother and sister,Micheal and Gertie, soon learn of Elliots new friend and help Elliot to keep his secret. When they ask E.T where he is from he shows them by levitating some objects to represent his solar system but they also find out he wants to go home when he creates a communication device.
Elliot begins to have a mental and physical link to E.T and when Micheal finds E.T dying in the woods he takes him to Elliot who is also now dying. The FBI gets involved and quarantine Elliot and E.T in Elliots home but when E.T appears to die so does the link between them. The children soon find out that E.T is not dead and set about to escape and send E.T back home, but can they do it...

"E.T,phone home". It was the first film i ever saw at a cinema and i remember nearly crying when E.T and Elliot got sick.

Science Fiction, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Henry Thomas,Robert MacNaughtan and Drew Barrymore.

Stand by Me(1986)

Set in 1959, it tells the story of four young boys setting off on a journey to find the body of a boy who was killed by a train in the woods while picking berries. The four boys, Gordie, Chris, Vern and Teddy, learn of the body when Vern overhears his older brother talking about it. The story is narrated by Gordie, later on in life, lookin back on his memories of what happened. From Gordie we learn all about him and the other boys, their personalities and backgrounds. We learn that they are all happy to be leaving home for a while,leavin all their individual problems behind them.
In searching for the body they run up against Verns older brother Billy and his hood friends led by "Ace " Merril, Aces gang want to claim the body so they can get famous for finding the body. Will the boys stand together and face the bullies or flee?

"Chopper,Sic balls!". Adventure Drama starring River Phoenix,Will Wheaton, Corey Feldman, Jerry O Connell and Kiefer Sutherland.

Ray Peterson in an average guy living in an idealic neighbourhood. When Walter, a neighbour who lives on his own, goes missing suspicions turn on the Klopeks.The flames of suspicion are further fanned by Rays neighbours,Art a slacker and Mark Rumsfield an ex-military loon. Together they set about finding Walters body and proving that the Klopeks are the killers that thay are sure they are.

Beetlejuice

Adam and Barbara decide to spend their vacation workin on their country-side home.One day coming home from a visit to the town they crash through a bridge and are killed. When they arrive back home they quickly realise they are no longer alive and notice a book, a handbook for the recently departed. On trying to leave the house Adam finds himself in a very strange world with monstrous sand worms but escapes with the help of Barbara.
As Adam and Barbara are dead their house is sold and a new family, the Deetzes,moves in.The Deetzes who are Charles, Delia and their goth daughter Lydia. Adam and Barbara do not want new people living in their home and set about trying to scare them away.With all their efforts failing they enlist the help of Beetljuice, who claims to exorcise the living. Beetlejuice double-crosses them and tries to marry Lydia so he can enter the land of the living. Now Adam and Barbara have to save themselves but Beetlejuice is a force not to be taken lightly.

Raiders of the Lost Ark(1981)

Indiana Jones is an archaeologist,lecturor and treasure seeker in his spare time. One day, after one of his classes, he is approached by Army intelligence officials. Indiana learns that the Nazis are looking for his former mentor, Abner Ravenwood, who they believe holds the key to finding the Ark of the Covenant. According to legend any army who has the Covenant will be rendered invinsible. Indiana discovers that his former mentor is dead but his daughter now has the key to finding the Covenant. Abners daughter, Marion, also happens to be Indianas ex lover and they did not leave each other on good terms. However Marion and Indiana team up after the Nazis get a copy of the piece and they set about trying to stop them. But how can they compete against the might of the Nazis?

The Empire Strikes Back

Empire is the second Star Wars film released in the saga and picks up after the Death Star has been destroyed.Luke, Han,Princess Leia and the Rebel Alliance are being hunted by Darth Vader and the Empire. Luke is continuing up the ranks of the Rebel Alliance and is now a commander but Darth Vader has plans for recruiting Luke to the Dark Side with a shocking revelation.
Escaping an attack by the Empire, Luke escapes in his x-wing and crash lands in Dagobah where he meets master Yoda. Yoda teaches Luke on the powers of the force and the dangers of the Dark Side but when Luke sences Leia and Han are in peril he sets off to help them. Han and Leia are captured by Vader and Han is Carbon froze,a process which is planned for luke but is tested on Han. Vader plans on bringing Luke to the Emperor and luring him to the darker side of the force, with the trap set can Luke escape Vader?

The Karate Kid

After the death of his father Daniel LaRusso is brought to start a new life with his mother to Los Angeles. Soon Daniel makes friends with an Okinawan Handyman and Bonzai tree entusiast, Mr. Miyagi. Daniel also earns the attention of a girl at school, Ali Mills, but in doing so makes an enemy with her ex-boyfriend, Johnny Lawrence, a local hood and karate expert. After a number of beatings Mr. Miyagi steps in, he approaches Johnnys dojo and puts foward a proposition to his Sensei. They agree that Daniel will enter "the All Valley Karate Tournament" and nobody will harm Daniel until the competition. With only two months to the competition and his unusual teaching methods can Mr. Miyagi and his new student fend off these bullies for good?

"Wax on, wax off". I think this film made every kid in the eighties want to learn Karate. Action Drama starring Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita.
