Eileen Morey, fine artist

Eileen Morey is a third-generation artist, best known for her luminous landscapes and sunrise sketches. She's also an award-winning fabric artist, creating quilts, wall hangings, wearable art and cloth figures.

Biography: Eileen Morey

Ms. Morey sold her first art as a teenager in the 1960s, but her paintings became better known in the mid-1990s when she began displaying them online in her diary.

She was one of the first people to have an online journal (before they were called blogs) and -- in 1996 -- one of the first to post new, "daily art."

At first, her daily paintings were oil sketches of the sunrise in her Stratham, New Hampshire backyard. Encouraged by their popularity, she began painting and posting sketches of other subjects, as well as finished paintings.

Today, Eileen's paintings are featured at her website and online art gallery.

Quotes related to art and the creative process

"Paint what you feel. Paint what you see. Paint what is real to you." -- Robert Henri

"It's not a matter of painting life, it's a matter of giving life to painting." -- Pierre Bonnard

"For the warrior, there is no 'better' or 'worse'; everyone has the necessary gifts for his particular path." -- Paulo Coelho

"Congratulate yourselves if you have done something strange and extravagant and broken the monotony of a decorous age." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"If you deny yourself access to the child within because you're too serious, you also block your connection to the divine Light and your feminine self. Every creator who's any good uses their feminine side to create with.. whether a scientist working on a hunch, a painter working on the interplay of colors, or a musician dealing with the juxtaposition of notes and chords." -- Stuart Wilde

Born in England. Second oldest in my family, with four sisters and no brothers. (Yes, that is a Jane Austen reference.)
